Now I never thought I'd say this, not until my mid 40's at least, but I feel like celebrating the wonders of TOAST! I'm not sure I'm game for the wintry stuff but their summer dresses are just perfect. For years I've longed for the undone, easy linen look but usually end up looking like a sack of potatoes... not this summer my friends!

My dad earlier said I looked "outrageously well sorted" in my new orange linen number - I think he meant well put together, and I've just got the navy on sale on JL. Yipppeeeee!

I have always worn whatever I like. I have never cared what anyone else thinks about my clothes, as long as I like them. I am not going to change that now I am middle aged..😀

Love this! 💗 One of my problems is that I worry too much about what others think. Wish I didn’t!
SirVixofVixHall · 19/06/2020 11:47

ilovecherries So comfy. Just play about with different combinations, you will find something that looks good. I do also wear them with bare feet, but I like socks with chunky sandals.
Personally I like a lovely hand knitted sock, or a contrasting colour.

In the words of Adam Ant
Ridicule is nothing to be scared of.
Don’t put anyone else’s opinion on your clothes over your own. I hate clothing rules.

I'm pretty happy with my Solovair-for -Toast boots. I've spent at least 3 winters looking for slightly higher than average ankle boots to extend the life of my cropped trousers. (I don't do cold ankles.) These might just be The ones.

So to celebrate I've ordered these trousers which are probably a prime candidate for a further reduction as judging by the reviews they're a bit challenging. And I'm 5'3. But they look very like my vintage Armani Annie Hall-esque chinos which are just starting to look a bit fragile. Or they might turn out to be a hot mess - who knows: https://www.toa.st/uk/product/womens+sale+trousers/c4ncb/cotton+sateen+pleat+front+trousers.htm?clr=C4NCBSandDunee_sw

Sorry mashed up link. Try again

EraOfTheGrey · 19/06/2020 12:25

@Floisme Those boots are lovely and I now want a pair. Can you tell me whether they are narrow or do they have a wide toe box? Wonder if I can justify buying them as a replacement for my Hiking boots?

Floisme · 19/06/2020 12:34

I think if you got your normal size they'd be quite wide Era. I sized down from a 5 to a 4, which is what they suggested, and they're a good fit.

I noticed they were called 'hiker' rather than 'hiking' boots which might suggest they're not quite as sturdy as the mainstream Solovair range ( but fine for me as I'm strictly a town or city walker).

LaurieFairyCake · 19/06/2020 12:37

Even though my tie neck dress (reduced again before I've received it Hmm) isn't here yet I've now ordered these two lovelies after reading what you've all said

I'm going to wear the V at the front of the check one as apparently it's fine to do that according to the reviews

Flo Damn it, the hiker boots are only available in a 6 which is my usual size. No size 5 so the decision has been made for me.

I'll keep my eye on them because I like the fact that a new sole can be put back on the original last.

Floisme · 19/06/2020 13:08

They only had size 4 in stock when I ordered and then they sold out completely for a while so it's definitely worth watching for returns.

Railingsohno · 19/06/2020 13:27

@Floisme - love the boots! I was eyeing them up too.

@LaurieFairyCake those dresses are beautiful, let us know how you get on!

Railingsohno · 19/06/2020 13:33

OK I need a few opinions (ironically after your comment @SirVixofVixHall 🤪)

First up Whistles barrel jeans. Not sure, feel so wide compared to my skinnies. Maybe it’s the white. They were out of stock in the blue but I’ll keep my eye open. They’re flattering on the waist although I have lost a few pounds due to lockdown stress but I’m sure I’ll put back on soon enough. Do they
loosen up?

Thank you all for the lovely comments about my reminiscing thread: I had been meaning to write it for ages but hadn't had the time. This thread is the first I check in the morning and I glance all day: so mcuh pleasure from a simple thread!

I completely agree that clothes are so much more than functional: they give me such a psychological lift. If I think I look good, I feel good too! I get a lot of comments on my Toast clothes and have even converted a colleague at work who sits opposite me and who had never heard of them until six months ago - can you imagine what a gap was in her life?! She is now the proud owner of a number of dresses and knitwear.

I too never save for best: a throw back from childhood and having to take off 'sunday best' and save it. Half the time I had grown out of it before I had worn it a a few times. We owe it to ourselves to look and feel as good as we can. I threw on my Ume dress straight out of the package and went on a 5 mile walk: no saving for me!

I purchased the woven visor earlier this summer: so expensive for a bit of raffia but very stylish.

I am completely seduced by some of your buys and can see more purchases coming on. I also have a few things to go back.

Welcome to the new Toast converts: good to share the love although of course we have now increased the competition at sale time!

I remember the mens' range. My husband has an amazing woollen jacket we bought from Toast in the sale in the Islington shop for a fraction of the original cost.

x

Then Ikat skirt. This is a size bigger as that’s all they had on JL. It’s a bit big but so comfy and with the tie at the back I can pull it in if I need to. Think it would work in winter too. What would people wear this with? Think I need something form fitting on top.

Dresses. A bit meh and sleeves annoyingly short. What do you think?

@Floisme I've just dipped into the Solovair website and I'm surprised I found my way out without a purchase. If we were closer to winter I fear I would be spending heavily. I have my eye on these.

Finally (sorry!) shirt. Love the check. I have a scruffy flannel one that I wear loads and this is a good smarter version. Not sure about the neckline. I’m a bit self conscious about the crepe. I may change the buttons to navy. It will also be nice under jumpers as a little flash of colour.

I would wear a neat pale grey thin jumper with that Ikat skirt - something like this bargainous one in John Lewis (in XS and S) for £20!

@Laska2Meryls

Cherries that would look so good on you , I think its an absolute classic definitely an investment piece. I must thank who ever first mentioned the JL price match on their own sale stuff.. Have bought several Toast things from them this sale and all have been matched to the lowest price. The cotton work wear jacket in blue I am especially pleased with for 55! But I also had the Anni skirt from them and olive linen top.. all price matched as well Smile
laska fancy meeting you here 🤣. Come and join us. I’m he price matching was amazing, I can’t believe how much I had refunded. I will spend my refund in JL though - feel morally obliged to protect them from the recession!
LaurieFairyCake · 19/06/2020 13:42

I LOVE those dresses. Can be left plain or jhuzzed up.

ilovecherries · 19/06/2020 13:46

@Laska2Meryls

Love Toast but usually only buy in sales . I had the zoya dress when first reduced in JL and was chuffed when they refunded me the difference on that also .Im now waiting for the workwear dress Also bought the Triangle dress and the brick espadrilles .. its getting expensive,!
I’ve still got the zoya here, can’t make my mind up about it. I’m still not sure if I can carry it off.
Floisme · 19/06/2020 13:48

They look good Era and, if you need some boots to do an actual job like hiking, I think I would go for the real thing. I think the range they do for Toast is slightly more .... I'm not sure what the word is, not 'fashionable' but ever so slightly toned down.

If you're ever near Northampton they have a factory shop, although I don't know if it's open at the moment, where there's normally a discount (15% or 20% I think although I'm not totally sure) on their current stuff, plus an outlet shop which is random but with up to 60% off.

As you can see, I'm a fan and I was very pleased when they teamed up with Toast - a perfect match Smile

ilovecherries · 19/06/2020 13:50

@Laska2Meryls

I sent back the Cercle bag as thought 95 was too much still , but niw thinking that it wont go down any further Sad It was really nice..
It is lovely. If I was ever out I’d be tempted either by that one or the Hush one. But neither jackets nor bags will be of much use to me for the foreseeable. You should reorder it - you know you want to!
Alsohuman · 19/06/2020 13:53

My Nora dress turned up this morning. It’s very creased but will be fine after a steam. It looks great and I like it just above my ankles, it works very well. Just the workwear jacket to come now.

Thank you so much for the price matching advice, whoever put us on to that. Now for earmarking some winter clothes and nipping in fast when the sale starts, preferably at JL.
