TOAST

Now I never thought I'd say this, not until my mid 40's at least, but I feel like celebrating the wonders of TOAST! I'm not sure I'm game for the wintry stuff but their summer dresses are just perfect. For years I've longed for the undone, easy linen look but usually end up looking like a sack of potatoes... not this summer my friends!

My dad earlier said I looked "outrageously well sorted" in my new orange linen number - I think he meant well put together, and I've just got the navy on sale on JL. Yipppeeeee!

THAT looks lovely. Bloody hell, my autocorrect.

GazeboParty · 17/06/2020 16:30

@SirVixofVixHall

Oh thank you ! I was quite disappointed with the 12, but this is a much better fit. I don’t like being quite so busty and I have put on weight during lockdown, two teenage daughters at home eating biscuits and ice cream and me joining in...
You don't look busty - you look shapely and in proportion - and I don't mean that in the way some people say curvy to mean big.
GazeboParty · 17/06/2020 16:50

Just got £34 refund from JLP - thanks ladies!

StarShapedWindow · 17/06/2020 18:06

I’m so enjoying this thread! The first time I remember coveting Toast was when I was still living with my parents (I moved out 17 yrs ago) and a small catalogue came through the door full of pictures of Welsh dressers, beautiful interiors and women wearing gorgeous carpenter style jeans and what looked like hand knitted jumpers. I’m a sucker for packaging so was sold hook, line and sinker!

So pleased for everyone getting their cash back, what a touch. I’ve ordered five new dresses and three have pattern so a bit out of my comfort zone but looking forward to experimenting.

Railings - interiors are my passion in life, my favourite day of the month is the day the new interior magazines are released! 😂

Railingsohno · 17/06/2020 18:06

@HieronymusBoschLAPD

I'm tall, I'm usually a 12, but sometimes a 14 on the bottom half and I'm a 28HH. I definitely have curves - I'd say I was a slim hourglass or maybe a slight pear? But I don't like fitted clothes. I like the tailoring of Toast - especially their trousers, and I don't mind their sack like tops/dresses - I like space to move! I'm a big OSKA/Margaret Howell fan as well and their style is quite 'baggy'. I guess the slightly Japanese aesthetic of the tailoring is what appeals to me - now I'm thinking about it, I don't tend to buy Toast's patterned things, or indeed any patterned things, I'm a strictly plain colours, or stripes kind of person. I sound so boring!

Re interiors - DH and I are architects so definitely into interiors! My interior style is much less rustic than Toast though - more towards the slightly minimalist Scandinavian/Japanese/Northern Californian/Mid-Century type of interior. Although I do like Toast Home things - just not quite the overall look.

You sounds super stylish! I’m not sure I have a style, whatever it is, it’s eclectic for sure!
Railingsohno · 17/06/2020 18:08
@Railingsohno I'm big into interiors too, but TOAST aesthetic is a bit Spartan for me! I like modern and bold colour, mixed with vintage stuff - a bit more eclectic that TOAST home is!
That sounds similar to me @goldpendant 💗

Railingsohno · 17/06/2020 18:09
@Railingsohno I have the Toast ticking stripe bed linen in several colours. It's amazing quality- I think I bought the first set almost ten years ago and it looks good as new.
However, I also find the Toast look a bit spartan and boring, so haven't ventured beyond bed linen.
This year, for the first time since my original ticking stripe purchase, I departed from Toast stripes and have splashed out on some liberty tana lawn cotton bed linen from Coco and Wolf. It's really beautiful... but I'm a bit obsessed with liberty prints, both at home and for dress making. Doesnt really accord with the minimalist Toast aesthetic!
Now bed linen is something I do need to get! I love a Liberty print too and ticking!

Railingsohno · 17/06/2020 18:18

Well my Arket delivery arrived. The t shirts are not good in me. I do not suit that high round neck shape. The paper bag skirt looks awful. I may order it in a smaller size. It was huge. The fabric is gorgeous but the waist was so bulky.

Now I need an opinion on these trousers. They are a kind of barrel leg shape so totally out of my comfort zone. I am usually a skinny trouser wearer but I’m trying to get something more il to date. Colour is gorgeous- a sort of tobacco brown with a slight sheen. They do look big but they are a good fit around my waist where I normally find things snug. Not sure the bum looks good though! I put my Toast top on for this thread! Please be honest- yes or no?!

I love the trousers, rolling. especially with the white tucked in top as a lot of the detailing in at the waist - although I very much like the toast top.

Railingsohno · 17/06/2020 18:22

@ SirVixofVixHall how did I miss your post? That dress is fab on you! Yes! Definitely a keeper. 💗 It feels very glam doesn’t it? It’s got a bit of a 30s vibe I think. Love it!

GazeboParty · 17/06/2020 18:24

Railing - they look good with the cream shirt - are they for work?

LaurieFairyCake · 17/06/2020 18:28

I've been waiting for the Tie Neck dress to come into stock in the Navy - I nearly bought the lovely green but Navy is my favourite colour. And it came in this afternoon!

I can't wait for it to arrive. I'm very booby (34J) so hope it looks good.

LaurieFairyCake · 17/06/2020 18:29

And Vix I LOVE that dress on you!

StarShapedWindow · 17/06/2020 18:32

Railing they look fab but I think they look best with the top tucked in so you can see the lovely neat waist

LanternHill · 17/06/2020 18:35

I'd keep them railingsohno I think they're lovely and the silhouette much more ' current' than with skinny trousers

Railingsohno · 17/06/2020 18:42

@GazeboParty

Probably more for going out as my work isn’t so smart. The fabric is quite smart.
Yorkshirelass04 · 17/06/2020 19:01

My haul has arrived. I'm keeping a red kantha jacket and the indigo sleeved jumpsuit!

The gold shirt dress thing was mega tight on the bust and the material felt very stiff. So it's going back.

SirVixofVixHall · 17/06/2020 19:05

I am so pleased that you all like the dress.
railings those Arket trousers look really good on you. Almost all my Arket buys are going back- I am dithering over a pink jumpsuit, my daughter says it looks like “a nice prison uniform....”

Alsohuman · 17/06/2020 19:07

Definitely keep those trousers Railing, they’re lovely.

GazeboParty · 17/06/2020 19:20

Probably more for going out as my work isn’t so smart. The fabric is quite smart. As long as you can picture yourself going out in them, they're a no brainer! I often have to stop myself buying smart clothes because I just never wear them, so I think - would I wear this to the pub -and if the answer is no I reluctantly leave it back.

goldpendant · 17/06/2020 19:29

@Railingsohno those trousers are fab on you!

I got my JL refund! This thread is the best ever!

@Railingsohno Thank you for the compliment! I'm really, really not stylish, but I have a style if you know what I mean?! I love seeing how differently people style the same thing, it's fascinating how we all see the same thing differently. You have** to keep those trousers, they're a gorgeous colour! I agree with the others - a tucked in top looks best. A nice leather belt would look good, you could get a longer one and do the 'Toast loop' with it.

@SirVixofVixHall - your dress looks absolutely fantastic!

Moominmammaatsea · 17/06/2020 19:47

Ditto @Railingsohno (Toast shirt is a good choice - I have it in yellow Grin) &@SirVixofVixHall.

That cross hatch dress looks stunning on everyone here who has shown it off, and you’re all different heights and (from what you’re saying) body shapes. Now, I would never have thought to opt for a wrap dress like that for myself; maybe I need to push myself out of my denim/indigo comfort zone!

Glad for more refunds - although I will feel somewhat guilty if I find out that JL is struggling in the wake of the pandemic. I slightly assuaged my guilt by ordering a whole load of Moleskine Harry Potter notebooks for DD1, who is a stationery fiend.

Railingsohno · 17/06/2020 19:56

Thank you everyone! Yes I think tucked in is best. That browny colour is not one I ever wear but it goes with so many of my tips -cream, black, fuschia, purple it’s brilliant!

Railingsohno · 17/06/2020 19:59

For anyone interested they are these ones, pretty good bargain I think. There may be more money off trousers in the sale too.

I think the colour is warmer than in their pictures, more tobacco than sulphur
