I ahev just moved and met the only neighbour i think who isn't about 100!She is about 35 boden-y with kids and seemsnice but we were chatting about annie lennox as she had a paper with her picture on it and she was saying how it is harder for women who are attractive to accept aging and she was dreading it as she had spent her life getting what she wanted because of her looks!I was speechless for once and said little back but i would never say that although I am not what I was at 42 I was ok in my youth but it just shocked me So come on do you think you're gorge and has it helped or hindered you?

see, when I was 18, I was a size 16 with brown hair, and big boobs.

well, I'm now 27 (look older), size 18 with brown hair and big (if slightly lower ) boobs.

I never really had anything to lose. In fact, I lament my pelvic floor tone more than anything else!

I have never relied on my looks, they have always been the lame duck of all my weapons.

I was tormented at school for being a late developer. I thought I was ugly. No, people said Iwas ugly. Then I blossomed and got a bit carried away with the male attention. I'm not classically pretty, but I am a flirt. I have been told I have a lively, face, and I seem to have a kind face as strangers are always striking up convos and sharing their life stories with me.
I'm old enough to miss what I had and didn't appreciate when I was younger!
And old enough to know it ain't gonna get any better so I'm happy enough with the way I look.

IMHO, I once saw Jo Lummers in the flesh and she really is glam and gorgeous. Wears an awful lot of slap, though.

If you don't feel attractive listen to Paul McKennas cd from how to change your life in 7 days book. After I listened to that I was hypnotised into thinking I was gorgeous..and who cares if I am or not- as long as I think I am...then I am.

Rosylily · 17/09/2007 11:33

My grandpa used to say ' beauty is only skin deep....ugly goes right to the bone'

i think i am average looking, however dh makes me feel gorgeous. he loves me to bits and is not afraid to show it, he has done wonders for my confidence. i am more comfortable as i am now, age 37, than i was when i was younger and pre children.

lololol i have looked at peoples profiles and i'm always miffed when there are non, despite mine being lacking..

heifer · 17/09/2007 11:40

hell no but I am funny so who cares...

Turquoise · 17/09/2007 12:05

Great thread (taking double time to read because of checking out all profiles too).

Another one here who wasn't too rough in youth - size 10, long blonde hair etc - but with zero self confidence. Am far comfier with myself now, whilst being considerably comfier all over iyswim, and bizarrely feel far more attractive, because I finally have some self confidence - yet well aware of the invisibility of age.

It was drummed home on holiday - I was the only person around the hotel pool (dcs were in the water) when typical italian stallion love god (so hairy he looked like he was wearing mohair pjs, but he clearly thought he was a love god) strutted past, clocked me, settled down on a sunbed about 10 feet away - and FARTED resoundingly. No way he'd have done that had I been young and hot!

So I think I get what the woman in the op was on about, not conceited of her really. So so sad to read about so many people who consider themselvs ugly though. Interesting how being loved makes all the difference.

themoon66 · 17/09/2007 12:10

Some days I reckon I look bloody amazing for my age.

Most days I catch a glimse of myself in the mirror and think 'christ, you are an ugly old bag'

lucykate · 17/09/2007 12:19

can i also add that its not that i need dh to justify my existence so to speak, i was very shy and unconfident when we met, a little nudge from him in the right direction has gone a long way.

I think I could be if i had the time and money to make the effort! I have never used my looks to get what i want afaik! If I thought I could get away with (ie if i was stunning) then i might have tried it!

lou33 · 17/09/2007 12:29

ooh i havent seen a pic of cd before!

DrNortherner · 17/09/2007 12:44

Do I think I'm attractive? WEll I know I'm not ugly, but I guess different people have different perception of what they find attractive.

I take care in how I look, and am aware that I have certain charms I can use when I need to

I'm 31 and feel much more confident as I get older, but that's nothing to do with looks is it? And if you are happy and confident most people find that attractive in itself i think.
