Photo - What size do I look

I've put on around a stone which was the right thing to do. I was quite skinny and my face looked absolutely terrible (like a 40 yo heroin addict).
Now my face is normal and feels pretty again. But I'm not pleased with my body.
I do the gym and yoga, but honestly please - what dress size do you think I am? (In boden/john lewis/m&s etc - not h&m or topshop)

You look great.Very in proportion which is important. And great boobs I'm jealous as I dont have any!

tashakg89 · 30/03/2020 23:29

honestly you look nothing like a size 12 or 14. You look a normal size 8-10. (I'd say more 8)
I really don't get how people can think you look over a size 10!
I'm size 8 but I'm small and look humongous in pics. Bet if I posted on here people would say a size 16 😂

waterlego · 30/03/2020 23:33

I really don’t get this. I think the OP said her hip measurement is 38” and that the trousers are a size 8.

My hips measure 36” and I usually wear a 10 in trousers 🤔

Is this just difference in shops and brands?

Scruffyoak · 30/03/2020 23:36

My hip is 38 and I am a.10/12

AJTracey · 30/03/2020 23:36

12

Lindylooboo · 30/03/2020 23:47

Courtney Cox once said that after 40 you can't have the face and the ass. It's one or the other. Face is better I think. You body looks good.

HollySideEyes · 31/03/2020 08:38

Courtney Cox is so full of filler I'd be surprised if it hadn't leaked into her brain.

mistermagpie · 31/03/2020 11:53

I've literally just measured my waist and hips. Waist is 28 inches and hips are 37.5. I'm 5'8" if that matters.

I'm standing here in a pair of size 12 jeans... I've got loads of size 10s from different shops and I can't get hardly any of them on just now (I used to be thinner), I wouldn't have a hope in hell with an 8.

Weird.

Notredamn · 31/03/2020 12:35

And I'm a 10, and only wear Petit bateau M or L (18 years/20 years) XXS/X are for children.
Body types, BMIs and store sizes are a mystery to me!

hipslikecinderella · 31/03/2020 14:16

It is weird.Checked my wardrobe and I don't have a single pair of trousers bigger than a 10/28 waist/FR38/size 2.
I have pairs from Jospeh, M&S, Ted Baker, Gap, True Religion, MiH, Current Elliot and some others I bought in France.
Small in leggings from sweaty betty.
Perhaps its different distributions of fat, or the cut I like, or how high I wear them, or maybe we shop in different places. ??

Smellbellina · 31/03/2020 14:20

You look quite dainty/small boned, I think that makes a difference. Lovely waist!

Runningonempty84 · 31/03/2020 14:42

And this is why labels in clothes mean fuck all. The OP has a lovely figure but no way is she what most of us would consider a size 8. However, she is a size 8, or a size 10, because her jeans say so.

It's all bloody nonsense. If you're happy and healthy then what does it matter what the labels say, or what randoms on the internet say?

Fwiw, I have stuff in my wardrobe ranging from a 6 to a 12 and I'm about a stone lighter than the OP. Same height. Clothes differ so much depending on where you buy them, that a 10 in my head (based on most of my clothes being from Topshop) will be nothing like a 10 in the mind of people who shop in M&S, Next or Fatface.

waterlego · 31/03/2020 15:28

Yes Running, spot on.

hipslikecinderella · 31/03/2020 17:03

Topshop - blast from the past, i haven't shopped there since my very early 30s (10 years ago +).
Well this thread was about what size I look at a weight where I like my face, not a forensic interpretation of my vital statistics, nor seemingly an average summation of the clothes I had on in the photos/have been wearing recently.
Why not put a picture of what size we think you look? Might be as surprised as I was with some of the far more generous guesses!

squishedgrapes · 31/03/2020 17:36

An extremely unflattering pic of me right now, in cleaning/bleaching/disinfecting outfit, a very dusty mirror which I hadn't noticed until now because I've avoided looking at my reflection. I'm similar size to you OP

hipslike Sorry if my comments have upset you- I thought they were in the spirit of the thread, but if not then I apologise. I really didn’t mean to cause any offence. 😕

Runningonempty84 · 31/03/2020 17:46

Why not put a picture of what size we think you look?

Because I don't give a flying fuck?! I'm more interested in what my body can do (run fast, mainly) and whether I'm healthy, than what number a load of strangers think is on the labels of my clothes.

And as we know, what size you look is completely arbitrary, when one shop's 8 is another's 12. I have size 8 trousers that hang off me (Next) and a size 12 dress I can hardly fasten up (vintage).
So who's to say what size I look? Most people would look at me and think I'm thin-ish, with a slightly fat arse, a pretty decent stomach after two DC, short legs and very sad, shrunken boobs. And they'd be right.

Runningonempty84 · 31/03/2020 17:48

OP, you look great. I hope you know that. Seeling validation from a load of randoms isn't going to help you. Size 8, 12, or even 16 - it honestly doesn't matter. You look healthy and fit; isn't that the point?

waterlego · 31/03/2020 17:52

I agree with everything you’re saying Running. Sizes are so inconsistent between different shops. Like you, I can wear tiny sizes from Next or M&S, but would be in clothes 2 sizes bigger in H&M, for example.

It’s meaningless, and it also doesn’t matter. I can lift quite heavy weights. That makes me happy and does far more for my self-esteem than weighing myself or fitting into a specific dress size.

And I too have sad, shrunken boobs 😆

Runningonempty84 · 31/03/2020 17:55

Glad it's not just me @waterlego ! They look fine in clothes, but with a bra off it's a completely different story.
Also, I definitely should lift more weights... Smile

waterlego · 31/03/2020 17:59

...and I should run! But I don’t 😬

hipslikecinderella · 31/03/2020 18:09

@waterlego do not worry.
It was more the thing about my mind going soft because I shop in m&s and fat face - the fat face jeans are actually from a charity shop so I didn't actually GO in there!
@squishedgrapes you look great, hope you feel it.

OP posts:
Hormonecrazyhell · 31/03/2020 18:12

12/14

waterlego · 31/03/2020 18:35

Ah, I see. But I think Running meant that people’s perception of sizes is different based on where most of their clothes are from. ie a size 8 will ‘look’ smaller in the mind’s eye of someone who mainly shops in Topshop vs someone who shops somewhere else. I don’t think that poster meant that your mind is going soft!
