I've put on around a stone which was the right thing to do. I was quite skinny and my face looked absolutely terrible (like a 40 yo heroin addict).
Now my face is normal and feels pretty again. But I'm not pleased with my body.
I do the gym and yoga, but honestly please - what dress size do you think I am? (In boden/john lewis/m&s etc - not h&m or topshop)

A lovely curvy 12

TheNavigator · 28/03/2020 09:02

OP, you look lovely, you really do, you have nothing to worry about in relation to your weight you look healthy and attractive.

To all those posters who love being skinny, please be cautious. My MIL always took pride in her tiny figure and being slimmer than any other woman. As she aged her face sunk horribly and she is riddled with osteoporosis. She was so resistant to weight gain she had to go into respite care to get some weight on her. She is now back to a safe weight but still has osteoporosis and looks 10 years older (she is in 70s, looks in her 80s). My own mother (normal weight, similar to OP) has aged so much better in looks and health.

I have know my MIL for over 30 years and have always felt she had an eating disorder, but shereally loved to be thin. It is her thing. I donlt think it is worth it, long term.

RingaRosie · 28/03/2020 09:06

Size 10. Photos always make folk look bigger. You have a similar shape to me. I’d love to still be in my size 28 jeans! Am 12/14 now.

Luckily my fat cheeks mean I’ll never need filler!

Enough4me · 28/03/2020 09:08

10-12

Quicklittlenamechange · 28/03/2020 09:56

12 on top 14 bottom.
I dont think we have been brainwashed by excessively skinny imagery at all.
In fact its the complete opposite!
Clearly healthy - 12/14 posters asking what size every one thinks they are and everyone saying a size 10!
Whats your height /weight OP ?

doofusmoof · 28/03/2020 10:02

14/16 (round mid section)

This is why some are shocked at how celebrities are tiny in real life.

How tall are you op?

tashakg89 · 28/03/2020 10:04

To me you look size 10 bottom half, size 8-10 top half

doofusmoof · 28/03/2020 10:07

I dont think we have been brainwashed by excessively skinny imagery at all.

To look slim in a photo you are looking at size 4-8, depending on height. I used to model & the camera adds pounds.

12/14 posters asking what size every one thinks they are and everyone saying a size 10!

The op is wearing size 10 jeans.

circleorsquare · 28/03/2020 10:09

I think if you went back 30 years you'd have been a 10 top and 12 bottom but that now would be a 10 bottom!!!

Quicklittlenamechange · 28/03/2020 10:12

Sorry but the jeans look very tight and not flattering .

HollySideEyes · 28/03/2020 10:18

Um, lot's of jeans are very tight and for many that's the USP (?)

HollySideEyes · 28/03/2020 10:19

Lots

autocorrect is having a field day with me today

OwlBasket · 28/03/2020 10:24

You look good op. Clearly a healthy weight and a lovely shape.

I suspect posters suggesting larger sizes are older than posters suggesting smaller sizes. I’m a mostly 12 in modern sizing, or a 10. However I’m easily a 14/16 in 80’s and vintage clothing

OwlBasket · 28/03/2020 10:25

I would count myself as ‘older’ btw, no offence intended

BelleharePenguin09 · 28/03/2020 11:01

16?

RingaRosie · 28/03/2020 11:03

Clothing sizes are bigger now, for sure. And elastane in jeans. I remember when one had to fit the jeans, not the other way around!

doofusmoof · 28/03/2020 11:10

@BelleharePenguin09 may I suggest specsavers?

HollySideEyes · 28/03/2020 11:16

I fear Bellehare was being ironic.

pangolina · 28/03/2020 12:11

I'd have said 12-14 but you look fab so who cares! I never look at someone and immediately try to guess their clothes size!

Notredamn · 28/03/2020 12:11

Doing weight training at the gym hasn't made you gain fat, though. It can make you gain weight by increasing muscle mass only.
You must've changed your diet to have filled your face out.

ooooohbetty · 28/03/2020 12:13

Choose face every time. I know women who are very proud that they are so thin but their face looks much older than their age.

TrickyKid · 28/03/2020 12:14

14? Assuming you're average height.

Verily1 · 28/03/2020 12:15

12 top 14/16 bottom

MashedSpud · 28/03/2020 12:15

I was going to guess 16.

The jeans aren’t flattering.

Broadwayb · 28/03/2020 12:33

I’d guess 10 on top, 12 on bottom. Your figure is gorgeous and I think those jeans look great on you - they accentuate your curves (which I think k it a good thing).
