As on the previous thread, please critique the outfit rather than criticise the woman and keep Megxit talk for the many many threads already dedicated to that!

Hope I haven't offended thisenglishlife, I love all those outfits (esp the saucy blue mini/maxi dress). I just think they're a bit too classic for Alexa Cheung. She'd look fabulous in them of course but I think she's more edgy.

^^

frugalkitty · 05/02/2020 22:22

I don't mind the white shorts but I do mind the ripped jeans, they look so scruffy. I actually Hmm-ed at the first photos of M&H at that outing they did as a couple....knowing the eyes of the world would be on them and she wore ripped jeans. Admittedly they were probably very expensive blah blah, but I don't like them and didn't like them the first time round in the 80s not that I was allowed to have some Grin

justasking111 · 05/02/2020 22:36

Have just found my Ossie Clark dress style in the V&A museum. Why oh why did I get rid of it. I have two DIL`s who would kill for it now. Sad

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 05/02/2020 22:56

That is sort of my point Frugal someone like Meghan who I think is naturally stylish can wear something scruffy and they just rock it, if Meghan had to wear a black bin liner she would somehow style it and make it work.

frugalkitty · 05/02/2020 23:11

Ah yes I see what you mean Betty but for me ripped jeans are never stylish no matter who wears them I'm afraid.

FramboiseRoyale · 05/02/2020 23:35

I'm not a fan of ripped jeans either, but agree with Betty that Meghan pulls it off. She manages to look stylish and even elegant in that white shirt and jeans combo.

Rhubarbisevil · 06/02/2020 07:07

So do you think Meghan was styled by someone else when she was pregnant? Even before TBH when she wore that enormous dress to the Lincolnshire wedding.

mathanxiety · 06/02/2020 07:16

MM looking absolutely gorgeous in that photo.

banivani · 06/02/2020 09:24

Svensk Damtidning have an "article" (term used loosely) about KCG:s sister Desirée with some lovely old pictures.

www.svenskdam.se/kungligt/11-bortglomda-bilder-pa-prinsessan-desiree/

Underneath the picture of her sitting at a desk there's a little compilation of films and photos about all the sisters. They were known as the "Haga princesses" and were quite the rage back in the day. Let me know if you want translation of anything.

banivani · 06/02/2020 09:48

Oh, another thing I wanted to post: The Swedish angle on the royal paternity scandal in Belgium is of course that via Alberts mother Astrid the now acknowledged daughter Delphine is related to the Swedish RF. So I'm sure I've seen somewhere pictures comparing the two, but I can't find them. Anyway, posting two lovely pictures I've nicked from the newspaper online, one portrait of Princess Astrid and another of Astrid, Leopold and kids. Find a photo of Delphine and compare with the portrait and see if you find the similarity striking.

Svensk Damtidning also have an "article" about a danish tv-series called "Frederik of the people", about QM:s father. You can (probably) see it on Swedish tv here www.svtplay.se/video/25055802/frederik-af-folket/frederik-af-folket-i-sin-fars-skugga?start=auto if you understand any of the languages ;)

Some lovely photos of QM, her mother, and her sisters in Svensk Dam anyway. www.svenskdam.se/kungligt/margrethe-i-tarar-i-ny-dokumentar-betyder-sa-mycket/

Wow @banivani that's quite the resemblance!

I wish Meghan had kept the style which she had before she was married. It seemed to me, rightly or wrongly, that it was almost like she was playing dress up and thought that “Duchess dressing” meant spending loads of money on clothes that didn’t fit her or her personality. The times when she really got it right imo where when she let her old self show through eg Black one shoulder dress, black trouser suit...

mrscampbellblackagain · 06/02/2020 10:34

Totally agree with you alliwantisagoodnightsleep!

BlingLoving · 06/02/2020 10:57

Okay, this is only tangentially Royal Style but did anyone see this article in the times about Rose Astor?

On a style piece - the dress/t-shirt combo she's wearing for the photo does absolutely NOTHING for me.

On a gossip level - there are just so many ridiculous things in this article. I personally have no problem with rich people/ traditional "upper class" people etc but the lack of awareness here is just so breathtaking. Also, I love this line, "No, I don’t want to be associated. I’m fed up with being associated with the royal family in everything I do. I have nothing to do with them apart from I married someone who grew up with them.”

Hahahahahaha - isn't she always there at kate's birthday/christmas events etc? I'd take this quite badly if I was William, Kate and her husband. She must have SOMETHING to do with them if she was part of asking William to be her child's godfather.

There are a dozen similar statements that made me realise ths is unlikely a woman I'd ever have a meeting of minds with if I met her in real life!

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/02/2020 11:13

Fun fact: I once gave my copy of The Times to Rose's husband on a BA flight from France!

queenofarles · 06/02/2020 13:13

I don’t think anyone can look bad in a white shirt and jeans. But actually This isn’t MM best looks But I’m with whoever is saying ripped jeans are a big no.

Bling why did you link that piece about Rose 🤦🏼‍♀️, No idea if it’s an AD for her Holiday home or yoga classes or what exactly .
I’m really getting fed up with everyone saying how yoga, plant based, gluten free changed their lives and made them feel much better, when in reality they just got rid of bad habits like drinking smoking, sleeping late and eating junk food! course you feel better darling After cutting all that out.

mrscampbellblackagain · 06/02/2020 14:06

That article is hilarious! Honestly the lack of self awareness is staggering.

BlingLoving · 06/02/2020 14:15

@queenofarles No particular reason - it's tangentially related to the royals so not completely in line with our thread but I figured as it's quiet no one would mind and it made me laugh it was so ridiculous.

@mrscampbellblackagain Yup - it's actually bizarre how little self awareness there is. Quite interesting writing too - on the surface, the piece is entirely innocuous but I can't help wondering if the journalist wanted to find a way to make her look ridiculous without actually coming out and saying that!

mrscampbellblackagain · 06/02/2020 14:19

Indeed bling! The line about the Portuguese surf shack aka luxury villa

queenofarles · 06/02/2020 14:38

She wants to be Known as an Astor and Not Van Cutsem Hmm because of the Van Cutsem association with the D&D of Cambridge . Yeah because known ever heard of The Astor name before or Hever, Cliveden or about theNew York 400. You can go unnoticed with the name Astor.

frugalkitty · 06/02/2020 14:51

Beatrice is having her wedding at Buckingham Palace according to the DM. As in, ceremony and reception.

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/02/2020 14:53

That article was so ridiculous it was funny, “The idea of shutting the door with a waft of Chanel and a clink of pearls as past generations did".

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/02/2020 14:58

The comments BTL are hilarious.

It was like some weird poverty fetish with her adoration of the girl who worked in a pub! As though this was an incredibly unusual thing to do.

Whatever made her decide to do that interview?

Spudlet · 06/02/2020 15:31

Good grief. What a complete twit she sounds. Hmm
