As on the previous thread, please critique the outfit rather than criticise the woman and keep Megxit talk for the many many threads already dedicated to that!

Are you all Times subscribers? I can't access it and I'm desperate to!

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/02/2020 16:04

You can sign up and get 2 free articles a week. The article is worth it!

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/call-me-rose-astor-the-woman-formerly-known-for-her-friends-in-high-places-8k97t38hb

I don't think that link has a share token but someone else on here might be able to post one that does.

No no - no one knows Astor don't you know: "I remember signing my cheques back in the day in New York or like my bank cards, and they’re, like, ‘Oh, Astor, like the Place,’ and I’m, like, ‘No, the Place like Astor, but yeah, sure, whatever.’ ” "

I love her outrage that people didn't know she was an Astor like those places were named for.

I'm a subscriber but they don't seem to have the option to send an article for free.

Not really fashion but a story in the DM about the boxer who saved Princess Anne from the kidnapper in 1974 being forced to sell his George Medal to pay for his future care needs having suffered several strokes. He reveals that the Queen paid off his mortgage as a thank-you. But the think that made me chuckle was Princess Anne's reaction to the kidnap attempt:
'She was very, very together, telling him, 'Just go away and don't be such a silly man',' he said.
I can just imagine her saying that

Breathtaking article! Saying the money doesn't matter and she would be totally fine without her house! Goodness, she sounds awful.

BlingLoving · 06/02/2020 19:26

Saying the money doesn't matter and she would be totally fine without her house!

I suspect she genuinely thinks she means it! :) Personally, I agree, money doesn't make you happy. But I think it makes it a lot easier to be happier. Easier to focus on the happiness of having a goal, and a purpose when that goal and purpose isn't simply to keep food on the table and a roof over your head....

Long time lurker here, this thread has been a daily highlight for me during maternity leave for all of last year, I've been mainly reading it while breastfeeding and it has really helped me stay sane even though my personal style couldn't be further away from royal fashion so thank you all, in particular @QueenOfTheAndals! Smile

I've been tempted to delurk and comment many times before but Rose Astor's interview did it for me. I logged in as I was curious to see the t-shirt - dress combo @BlingLoving was referring to, only to find out it's the skirt I was wearing to go to the office yesterday! Grin It's from Monki, bought it on sale a few months ago. In fact, I thought of you lot as I was putting my outfit together like I often do, thinking you'd probably it outfit rather frumpy. Grin I find it quite amusing that with all the money in the world she'd choose to wear something like this.

MrsMcGillicuddy · 06/02/2020 19:34

*it outfit > find it !

Welcome @MrsMcGillicuddy, hope we've seen you through many a long night of breastfeeding - I remember those days well!

@thisenglishlife your collages are the best. I loved the grey blazer/plum trousers outfit.

Here we have SWFM's 44th birthday portrait, and then Leti in a VB ensemble. Those heels on the cobbles! Shock

PS. Has Curly left the thread? Not seen her for ages...

MrsMcGillicuddy · 06/02/2020 19:56

@QueenOfTheAndals I have indeed been reading you during many night feeds! Grin

DevonUkelele · 06/02/2020 19:57

Thanks @thisenglishlife. I loves me a blazer - and some of those are rather good. Thumbs up for working Kate.

Not the double-breasted ones though Wink

DevonUkelele · 06/02/2020 19:58

Ohmigod! The two Danish princess even almost share a birthday. Could they be any more twinny?

frugalkitty · 06/02/2020 20:14

According to FB, this is a photo of the late Duchess of Devonshire feeding the chickens in a Dior gown....a woman after our own hearts if so Smile

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/02/2020 20:17

@DevonUkelele And their portraits are a bit twinsy too - one in black and one in white. Maybe they've been on this thread too and are playing along!

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 06/02/2020 20:17

@frugalkitty that is indeed "Debo", the last of the Mitford sisters.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 06/02/2020 20:19

Kate loves a blazer over her principal boy costume doesn't she? Grin

Queen I'm thinking I need to up my game a bit when I go out to the rabbits.......

DevonUkelele · 06/02/2020 20:26

Me too, @Queen ... dresses it right up!

And I too wonder if Mary and Marie are joshing with us. Uber weird if not.

EmGee · 06/02/2020 20:40

What happened to @Bertrand Russell? I haven't seen her post anything for ages either....

7Worfs · 06/02/2020 20:54

I miss SenecaFalls' posts

MotherofPearl · 06/02/2020 20:57

I think we worked out that Bert is still around though not on this thread. That's a good point about Seneca. Her royal historical knowledge was second to none.

Horsemad · 06/02/2020 21:16

Where did Seneca and Curly go? 🤔
