As on the previous thread, please critique the outfit rather than criticise the woman and keep Megxit talk for the many many threads already dedicated to that!

I think those York princesses have been so bullied and sniped at over their adult lives that they deserve all the support the family can give... and if it comes in the form of huge diamonds or other stones... great!

I think Beatrice will look stunning as a bride, she has fantastic colouring and a lovely curvy figure. Lady Sarah wore my all time favourite wedding dress, Mette Marit my second favourite (that wedding everybody just cried, including the priest I remember), and Eugenie's dress is third. I love that Eugenie skipped a veil.

The thing I like about Beatrice's style is exactly what others have critisized. She takes risks. While the toilet seat hat was dreadfully funny, I could totally see how she had thought "what the hell".... she isn't a minimalist and she clearly dresses to mainly please herself.

I sincerely hope that Zara Tindall buys all her clothes from Zara.

CurlyWurlyTwirly sent me a private message. She sends her regards.

Red is the traditional Chinese colour of good luck, so it’s odd that the Yorks wore only monochrome, not so much as a red tie or scarf.

I haven't abandoned you either. I'm visiting my son and the time distance is topsy turvey but I have a little read when I get the chance and I have wifi. I don't have my finger on the pulse of fashion but I love the comments and pictures. Glad Curly is ok and that you are back, Senneca. We need you for the history facts!

@Tootreeticki - there is a detailed and lovely account of the wedding of Mette-Marit and Haakon here:

Some lovely photos too.

A very cute instagram video of Sweden's Prince Daniel, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar. They are doing some publicity for Prince Daniel's Generation Pep charity to get children to exercise and in particular the #uppochhoppa2020 (get up and jump 2020) where you have to see how many star jumps you can do in 31 seconds. Even being on crutches is no excuse to let Princess Estelle off the jumps! (she broke her leg skiing around new year).

@mathanxiety Yes. All those (happy) tears...

Actually that the bride and groom walk to the altar together isn't a break with tradition. It is an old Nordic custom and symbolises that the marriage is voluntary for both. None of this veiled women given away by their fathers nonsense... that has crept in a bit though and we usually blame it on American movies...

I love the way she describes everything as if it is perfectly normal. And love the way she writes about the Queen as helpful and constructive.

I agree. The "perfectly normal" narrative of an anything-but-normal life is one of the things that makes the book so entertaining and charming. And the Queen does appear to have been a very loving sister to Margaret.

Tootreeticki · 09/02/2020 00:07

Now I'm still thinking about royal wedding outfits

1 Lady Sarah the dress, the styling
2 Mette Marit the FLOW
3 Eugenie (many many bonus points for skipping a veil)
4 Princess Margaret (gorgeous simplicity, and that diamond necklace peaking at the throat)
5 CP Victoria (those cameos)
6 Camilla (second wedding), beautiful grownup gown...lovely headdress.

While all that lace was pretty (Kate, Madeleine, Mary...) I prefer the non lace outfits.

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/02/2020 09:14

Maxima has a new official portrait but I'm not sure it's captured her exuberance at all.

And Prince Albert has been out and about with his daughter Jazmin (surely MN would frown upon that spelling??), as well as Queen Joan (Collins) and Duchess Jane (Seymour) who have both discovered the secret of eternal youth! (Money and a good cosmetic surgeon?)

Thank you for the links. Mette Marit always looks so kind to me. I don’t know what I’m basing it on but there is something innocent there. I’m probably talking rubbish but I know what I want to say in my head

StCharlotte · 09/02/2020 10:24

Page 40 Queen!

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/02/2020 11:40

I know what you mean @CanIHaveATiaraPlease and at the very least, given her Halloween photo, we know M-M has a sense of humour!

For the first time ever I think I’ve seen the likeness between Olivia Colman and the Queen 😮

Woah, that's uncanny, @AppleKatie! 😮

AppleKatie · 10/02/2020 18:22

I know! If it wasn’t the Queen Mother next to her I could be fooled into thinking it was OC

thisenglishlife · 10/02/2020 18:26

There's a new royals thread @AppleKatie

AppleKatie · 10/02/2020 18:32

I know but I posted the pic on the wrong thread 🤣
