As on the previous thread, please critique the outfit rather than criticise the woman and keep Megxit talk for the many many threads already dedicated to that!

Not a big fan of that dress on Kate. Somehow it emphasises her long waist and it's very Regency in style.

StCharlotte · 03/02/2020 13:58

Did you mean this black velvet Queen?

It certainly had va-va-voom but I think it was too much/heavyfor her. An updo might have balanced things out but there was too much going on at chest level with frills and curls etc.

Love love the Ice blue Jenny packham on her and wish it would get a re wear. Stunning.

I really dislike the gold-embroidered one, mostly because for something by a top designer (and worn by an extremely good-looking woman with model proportions) it looks all too like something I might buy for my 7 year old daughter from Monsoon, to wear to a party. And I guarantee if I bought it, it would be because it was DD’s choice, not mine!!

It’s weirdly boring/twee (for McQueen!!!) and I don’t think the shape suits her. She has no décolletage to speak of (I don’t either) and with her height/stunning hair etc I think she can pull off the more dramatic angular high-necked looks that curvier women can’t.

Just my opinion! She looked very smart but not at all stylish in my view, sorry Blush

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/02/2020 14:07

Yes that one @StCharlotte. I think to fit in with the theme I'd have altered it to remove the frills around the deolletage and gone with an updo and serious earrings. A necklace might've been too obvious.

the Queen is back out again performing duties she does look pretty good considering she's nearly 94.

I will agree that the gold embroidery dress might be glam but never glamorous. I also agree that with her height and figure Kate could wear real head turning outfits but she doesn't seem interested. I've just watched Next in Fashion and the first episode is red carpet wear - a few of those dresses would be amazing DoC wear. I think she'd be slaughtered by your press if she took such a sartorial "risk" though.

In other news, here's a video from CPV and PD and their kids, from their organisation "Generation Pep". www.instagram.com/p/B8EgYj-pRo8/ Cute!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/02/2020 15:12

I'm warming to last night's dress. What I particularly liked was the sleeve. I think if you have very defined back and arm muscles, backless and armless dresses are not such a good look. So it's either dial back on the upper body workouts or choose a sheer sleeve to soften the look.

banivani · 03/02/2020 15:12

Oh and here's a photo spread from Svensk Damtidning for you lot: 15 times CPV has shocked us by wearing her hair out:

RomaineCalm · 03/02/2020 15:38

Liking HM's coat - it's rhubarb and custard! 😊

frugalkitty · 03/02/2020 16:14

Love the pics of CPV with her hair down, she looks lovely! Thanks for the link.

Laiste · 03/02/2020 17:28

This is a link to the sort of silhouette i'd love to see Kate try. Recreation of a 50s Balenciaga. Not particularly risque, but definitely glam and unforgettable. (with some wonderful rocks dragged out of the vaults)

Wetdogloveshubert · 03/02/2020 17:45

Now that would be a heck of a showstopping dress @laiste !

BennytheBall · 03/02/2020 17:58

I think Kate’s priority is to look appropriate, which she always does. She clearly has no interest in fashion.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/02/2020 18:15

I disagree actually. She's been on the cover of Vogue so I don't think that indicates a lack of interest in clothes, and she's definitely branched out in the past year and tried some different looks.

itswinetime · 03/02/2020 18:24

I don't think Kate is a fashionista as such but I agree with queen she follows some trends those hair bands and pussy bows to name a few and she does try some different looks.

It was obviously a dress she liked and wanted to wear again but I agree it was a royal tour dress (still wouldn't have been my taste) but not a red carpet dress.

And yes @Laiste a silhouette like that would be show stopping on Kate and is timeless and not risqué IMO

When are William and Kate in Wales is it next week?

StCharlotte · 03/02/2020 18:40

Agree Queen about adjusting the neckline, adding an updo and statement earrings. Apart from that it was perfect Grin

Thanks banivani for the link to CPV and her "released" hair (loved the translation!). I don't think she has the right shaped head or face for the scraped back look, except when topped with a tiara and then it looks amazing.

Lunde · 03/02/2020 18:49

I think W&K are due in Wales tomorrow

KitMarlowesCodpieceOfThigh · 03/02/2020 19:08

See, I find that dress Laiste linked a total turn-off. It looks like the model's being eaten by a sea monster and just her legs are sticking out at the bottom! But I don't love the gold and white, either. I might have liked it more if the gold flowers hadn't looked like massive polka-dots - maybe if it could have looked more like a Jane Austen-esque sprigged muslin, with a much more delicate gold pattern?

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/02/2020 19:09

I wonder what kind of literal dressing she could go for in Wales? A dress with dragon motifs? A giant leek??

itswinetime · 03/02/2020 19:23

I feel this has to be a top contender with tights obviously Wink

Kate’s already got the boots....

thisenglishlife · 03/02/2020 20:52

The dress was pretty but more summer in an Asian palace, rather than a winter's night at the Baftas?

The top bit was milk or beer maid
A hint of cleavage fans oneself
The jewellery looked like it cost £5 rather than £13,000ish
The dress was a tad too long, the shoes barely peaked out and were too pointy for the dress (the dress needed round toe or open toe)

2012 vs now - Kate looks the same as she did eight years ago, poor William!
