As on the previous thread, please critique the outfit rather than criticise the woman and keep Megxit talk for the many many threads already dedicated to that!

Maybe that was the point? To stand out from the others? The risk would have been that someone else might have worn a shimmery dress or a strapless dress but NO ONE would wear a dress like hers if she wears something bridal or OTT.

KitMarlowesCodpieceOfThigh · 03/02/2020 07:32

I wish she'd rewear this one - https://whatkatewore.com/tag/kate-middleton-jenny-packham-blue-dress/ - the one she wore to the Spectre premiere. It's so beautiful and elegant!

Inniu · 03/02/2020 07:38

I really liked Kate’s dress. She doesn’t need to compete with actresses.

beanaseireann · 03/02/2020 07:40

Slightly off topic but I thought Jessie Buckley singing was brilliant. I saw the film Wild Rose and thought it was very good.

Laughterisbest · 03/02/2020 08:00

My first thought was also that she looked lovely and stood out from all the other shiny or sparkly, tight dresses.

The jewellery wasn't right for it, I agree.

Whereas I dislike the long-sleeved pale blue Jenny Packham dress on her. To me neither the colour nor the style suited her.

StCharlotte · 03/02/2020 08:17

Whereas I dislike the long-sleeved pale blue Jenny Packham dress on her.

I really like that one too. And I love that soft updo.

AngelaScandal · 03/02/2020 08:42

Not loving the Kate dress (sorry Kate). It reminds me of something Elizabeth Bennet would have worn to a ball at Pemberley.

LaPampa · 03/02/2020 08:50

Kate always looks lovely but that dress always makes me think she looks like an Easter egg.

BigGreenOlives · 03/02/2020 09:12

I love her hair

Twisique · 03/02/2020 09:33

I loved the dress, really pretty, but think it would have looked better with shorter sleeves.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/02/2020 09:34

Not so much an Easter egg than a Faberge egg @LaPampa!

Jesse Buckley was amazing.

I love this dress on Kate.

@QueenOfTheAndals that too!

Sooverthemill · 03/02/2020 10:11

Has anybody linked through to this round up of the most iconic royal gowns from Harper's Bazaar? Only saw it today but from Saturday

Laughterisbest · 03/02/2020 10:22

hopeishere

That's one of my favourites too. Gorgeous.

EmGee · 03/02/2020 10:30

I think it's easy to forget that Kate is a senior member of the BRF and probably veers away from more glam/risqué dresses an actress could wear. It's been said before on these threads that she dresses for posterity.

I'm in two minds about the dress. I love the floatiness/sheer material but not so keen on the bust. I think you need to have slightly fuller boobs to really flatter in that neckline.

Other PPs have mentioned glamourous dresses worn by HMQ and PM in their youth. Kate doesn't have the same figure. PM (and HMQ) was quite busty albeit tiny elsewhere so she looked fab in her dresses.

beanaseireann · 03/02/2020 10:31

I love that dress on Kate too. Beautiful.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/02/2020 10:50

Well risque would not be appropriate at all but there's nothing wrong with glamour from royal women!

OP posts:
EmGee · 03/02/2020 10:53

But she does look glam!

katienana · 03/02/2020 11:13

I love the cream Roland Mouret she wore, and the black velvet dress. They were both more red carpet for me.

itswinetime · 03/02/2020 11:42

It doesn't have to be risqué to be glamorous at all and if you look at some of HMQ dresses when she was younger then there is definitely room for more glamour from Kate last nights dress wasn't glamorous for me Just putting gold embroidery or something doesn't make it glamorous. I agree I would love to see the black strapless or the cream Roland Mouret again glamorous especially with some jewellery but even if those are out not in favour or more conservative dress she still has better more glamorous dresses for me

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/02/2020 11:50

I would say her dress last night is more embassy black tie than BAFTA black tie, if you know what I mean.

OP posts:
frugalkitty · 03/02/2020 12:03

Queen I agree, last nights dress is beautiful but not a red carpet dress.

FramboiseRoyale · 03/02/2020 12:42

I don't understand this concept of dressing for posterity. How do we know how posterity will view clothes of today? I think Kate wears what she likes and what she is comfortable in. She is not on the cutting edge of fashion, but always looks appropriate. I don't care for the dress she wore last night, the bodice in particular, but I still think she looked great.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/02/2020 12:53

The dressing for posterity thing is a theory that originated on Mumsnet and is now stated like it's a fact! But we have no way of knowing what goes through Kate's mind of course.
