M&S Beauty Advent Calendar 2019

Starting a thread to discuss the contents as we hit December.

Who is getting this one this year?

This was my very first beauty calendar last year and it’s definitely got me addicted. I loved it!

This year you can order the calendar from 31st October. Price is £40 when you spend £25 at M&S. Contents are worth over £300.

If you do want to know the full contents you can find them over at ReallyRee (SPOLIERS!).

Please don’t discuss the contents ahead of time on here as most people don’t want to know (or as in my case, read then forget!).

I love makeup brushes so very happy with this!

I hope M&S take note of these threads. Some Glam Glow and Nuxe next year please! Grin

My first beauty advent and yes, I do enjoy opening it. There have been some interesting things to try, but seriously, how can anyone claim this is great value? It's largely full of product samples! Most ridiculous was Martin Lewis claiming this was a cheap way of getting Xmas presents!

Maybe I'm in a grump today, but the novelty is definitely wearing off. I went into this with my eyes open, but have not really been convinced to change my mind. Come on M&S! There had better be some exciting stuff in the last few days!

bohemia14 · 20/12/2019 08:02

I'm really enjoying the calendar and I think it's great value for money. Maybe I'm just easily pleased as I've no complaints. I don't like the perfume (haven't liked any of the Shay and Blue perfumes) but shall pass it on to someone.

I'm normally disappointed when I get make up brushes but it's nice to have an eyeshadow brush rather than one for blusher/powder.

Didn't we have some Nuxe earlier on in the calendar? A moisturiser? I could be getting confused with another calendar.

ReeRi · 20/12/2019 08:12

Yes we had Nuxe but I love Nuxe

I agree glam glow would be good

We had Pixi last year too didn’t we? To be fair I got a pixi toner or spray in this and then another in a harvey Nicholls beauty gift and I haven’t opened them

I need to get myself to the swap thread!

AmethystMoonShine · 20/12/2019 08:22

I’m happy enough with the brush. Only trouble with double ended is I can’t store it in my brush pot.
I’m really surprised at people saying they don’t think it’s good value, the contents are always going to be smaller than full size but hardly sample size in most cases. I’d say more travel sized. The two full size products (sleep spray & aveda) cover the cost of the calendar, everything else is a bonus!
It’s a marketing tool to encourage us to try new things in the hope we will go and buy full size after Christmas. Does anyone realty thing it going to be full of full sized products? Plus it’s advertised very clearly with the contents before purchase.
Is it just me? Xmas Confused

ReeRi · 20/12/2019 08:22

I also would love ESPA but not sure that’s an M&S brand

I like loccitane but think a tiny shea butter hand cream is a bit dull

ReeRi · 20/12/2019 08:22

PS forgot to open my box again 😬

AmethystMoonShine · 20/12/2019 09:08

I’ve just listed my swaps over on the swap thread, which includes things from previous beauty boxes and other calendars.... so if you’re interested, please take a look Xmas Grin

ReeRi · 20/12/2019 10:36

I agree @AmethystMoonShine We knew what we are buying (or should have!) and could have chosen to spend that £40 (is that how much it was?) on other things!

mashpot · 20/12/2019 11:12

I’m surprised at all the negativity on this thread too. I have really enjoyed the calendar this year and stopped checking in on this thread because it was ruining it for me! Can’t please everyone I suppose.

Beadstar · 20/12/2019 11:47

Yes, the contents weren’t kept secret, I checked it was worth the money for me before buying it (and the surprise element hasn’t been ruined either because months later I’ve forgotten what’s in it!).

Saying that, I have loads of eyeshadow brushes and today’s doesn't seem very special but I’ll add it to my collection.

NotGenerationAlpha · 20/12/2019 11:51

The content is very similar to last years. We got a blusher brush last year. I've got my own set of Bobbi Brown brushes so I won't use them. But I'm giving them to DD8 as she loves playing make up. I'm a bit bored with this, and am jealous of DH's hotel chocolate one. I think I'll get one of those instead next year!

Housewife2010 · 20/12/2019 12:30

I keep my dual ended brushes in a brush pot and they're fine.

Teabeautyandturning40 · 20/12/2019 12:47

I'm happy with the brush too, I have so many and it's good for me to have another to add to the collection. I was wondering this morning if the m&s marketing team take note of these threads! Only thing I would personally prefer is some maybe a bit more make up, I thought there would have been but there are a few more boxes to open so I'm hopeful!

PrincessWatermelon · 20/12/2019 13:02

Brush - useful, although I have a near identical one!! It is about 7 years old, mind you, so I wonder if I ought to chuck that and treat myself to a new one.

For the record, I blooming love the calendar! And although I'd like to see what's up on the swap threads, I've used pretty much everything so have nothing to swap!!

BackOnceAgainWithABurnerEmail · 20/12/2019 19:50

I don’t mind a brush but a brush and a sleep spray feel like two random things right next to each other.

ReeRi · 20/12/2019 20:32

I don’t mind a brush but a brush and a sleep spray feel like two random things right next to each other.

I think I prefer that to, say, getting two face creams in a row. Or a shampoo one day and then a conditioner the next day (although shampoo and conditioner should both be in the calendar if one is!)

Bobbybobbins · 20/12/2019 22:55

I am also loving the calendar - my first one! My skin looks amazing with much better quality moisturiser than I normally use - will definitely be upgrading.

The only things I haven't used are the primer type products (don't use these), the hair balm (which doesn't get on with my fine hair) and the brush.

circleorsquare · 21/12/2019 08:20

I'm finding the wonder balm is making my hair feel coarse. I can't work out if it's because the weather is wet and it's that or if it is the balm itself!

I've been putting it on first then the aveda one we got on the first day as it says it's to be used in conjunction with other products. I need to use heat protection on my hair. Maybe I'll try it with something else...

TheNavigator · 21/12/2019 08:36

Happy today Grin Out dancing tonight so will give this a try - I don't wear much make up but this looks like a good party colour

Teabeautyandturning40 · 21/12/2019 08:36

I used the wonder balm on my daughters hair which is thick and unruly and it worked well for her. For my hair I prefer the aveda one. Not overly keen on the lip colour today, looks nice in the tube but I put a bit on my finger to try on my lips and its bloody awful, makes me look pale and washed out. Love the brand but for me this is a miss unfortunately

HollyHocks13 · 21/12/2019 08:59

I'm really chuffed with today's. I've been looking for a red lipstick and I love Stila. Definitely a win for me and my favourite for a while.

AndAnon · 21/12/2019 09:04

Today’s is a huge miss for me! @HollyHocks13 what colour is yours as mine is gold? I love a red lipstick but mine is definitely not red! I haven’t opened it as will go into the swap pile.

AndAnon · 21/12/2019 09:04

Mine is “dolce”

AndAnon · 21/12/2019 09:10

Ahh it can be one of three!

Dolce, Beso, Baci, Caramello

If anyone would like to swap Dolce for Beso please let me know! I’ve not opened it to even try on my hand as I know the colour won’t suit me, I only wear strong reds on my lips.

Annoying as Beso is one I’d have loved!
