M&S Beauty Advent Calendar 2019

Writersblock2 · 21/09/2019 15:53

Starting a thread to discuss the contents as we hit December.

Who is getting this one this year?

This was my very first beauty calendar last year and it’s definitely got me addicted. I loved it!

This year you can order the calendar from 31st October. Price is £40 when you spend £25 at M&S. Contents are worth over £300.

If you do want to know the full contents you can find them over at ReallyRee (SPOLIERS!).

Please don’t discuss the contents ahead of time on here as most people don’t want to know (or as in my case, read then forget!).

Yes, I'm also very pleased with this and looking forward to trying it later. Day 1 is a success in my book.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 01/12/2019 08:19

Are we allowed to say what it is yet?!

I was out last night and got in just after midnight so opened mine then. Blush It's nice to have a full size tube of something and this is a great brand but unfortunately I can't use it as I follow the Curly Girl method and it contains silicones...one for the swap/sell/gift pile.

AndAnon · 01/12/2019 08:22

Maybe we agree a time after which we say what it is? Maybe MN can change title to say Be wary of spoilers after 7AM or similar?

TheNavigator · 01/12/2019 08:25

Good morning! Off to a great start, have never tried this, but I am coming to the end of my hair oil, so will try this instead, it is just the sort of product I use. And full size too!

SymphonyofShadows · 01/12/2019 08:26

Very pleased too. Great size.

HollyHocks13 · 01/12/2019 08:27

Found you all! I'm really pleased with today's offering - just what I need and great size too Smile

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 01/12/2019 08:28

@AndAnon, I agree, 7am seems a reasonable cut off point

KeithPartridge · 01/12/2019 08:30

Yes I think 7am is a good time.

Sparkletastic · 01/12/2019 08:41

What a wonderfully strong start from M&S! Helping lay to rest the ghosts of the Benefit calendar I had a few years back which contained paper clips on day 1 Confused

Xmasbaby11 · 01/12/2019 08:51

Really like the one today. Not exciting but will be useful, a quality brand I haven't tried before. Looking forward to using it!

Luvacuppatea · 01/12/2019 08:54

Hope we can ‘reveal’ the product soon - this thread isn’t going to be nearly as exciting as it has been in the past if we can’t actually say what we are talking about.............

MardyGrass · 01/12/2019 08:57

Well am keeping mine intact to open on Christmas day....
Just putting that out there....Hmm

SymphonyofShadows · 01/12/2019 09:00

In that case Mardy, you might want to give the thread a swerve because of spoilers. It’s 9am now, I think we can talk openly about it.

Munxx · 01/12/2019 09:00

It's 9am. Surely we can say it's Aveda Hair Remedy?

Costacoffeeplease · 01/12/2019 09:01

I haven’t used this particular product before but have used others from the brand, very pleased with day 1

SymphonyofShadows · 01/12/2019 09:03

I’ve got chemo-frizzled hair at the moment so I’m hoping it’s going to work miracles!

sluj · 01/12/2019 09:07

We have to be able to say what they are, otherwise I will be puzzling over what I got all day at work! If it wasn't for this thread last year, I wouldn't have had a clue about how to use half of the products Grin
On another note, who else managed to pick the box up the wrong way and scatter the boxes all over the floor? DH had an impromptu jigsaw session this morning.
How are you going to display yours? I think mine will need to be flat, which is not ideal Hmm

AllIWantForChristmasIsTomHardy · 01/12/2019 09:16

I'm excited to try this, my mum has the m&s calendar(I had it last year) and I have birchbox so we are exchanging where we won't use stuff
Today I got aveda body lotion so me and mum have swapped as my hair is in need of some love

Who was it last year who priced the items and did a running total? It was fantastic

ScribblyGum · 01/12/2019 09:24

Oooh! Well I'm happy. Love Aveda stuff and my ends are a bit crispy at the moment.

I’ve never done one of these before. Haven’t looked on the back and have swerved all spoilers.

Isn’t the inside pretty. Aren’t designers clever. Dd1 is doing GCSE design at the moment and we enjoyed looking at how they’ve designed all the clever boxes, colours, fonts etc. I'm easily pleased but I think it’s a very lovely thing. Well done Marks.

Beadstar · 01/12/2019 09:24

I’m very pleased with today’s. I’m going to try it later.

sluj, I had boxes trying to fall out just by removing number 1, I am going to have to remember to open it when it’s flat!

Writersblock2 · 01/12/2019 09:29

I think as long as it’s the right day, no matter how early it is you can say what it is. Rule of thumb is if you haven’t opened that day then don’t look at the thread.

I’m really impressed. I’ve never actually tried Aveda and it’s a fantastic size. The box is easily one of the most beautiful of the calendars I’ve bought this year too. And of the products I’ve got on day one this is one of my favourites. Early knocking it out of the park from M&S! :)

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 01/12/2019 09:31

I lay mine flat when opening it and then put the box back in and stand it up again once closed and keep it stood up as I have my birchbox cal stood up beside it. So far so good - might be a little more of an issue when the 4-13 boxes on the bottom are empty and the weights in the top though - we shall see :)

Very happy with this mornings offering of the Aveda damage remedy daily hair repair. For some reason despite not heat treating 95% of the time (and the other 5% being a blast with a hairdryer only if I'm going out within an hour of washing my hair) the split ends are really bad this year and it's starting to look really ratty/tatty.

Got to wait until the 12th for a bloody good haircut so this will (hopefully!) help calm help and treat it before then! :)

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 01/12/2019 09:32

I agree writers, I avoided the thread and looking at 'what I'm on' until I'd properly gotten up and opened the calendars in a quiet few mins before getting up.

PrincessWatermelon · 01/12/2019 09:33

I'm glad to hear you all being positive about this hair one. I have very curly hair (although not curly girl technique) and am always v wary of trying hair products. I loved the Philip Kingsley Elastizer last year as it was a treatment which washed out. Unsure about putting a product into damp hair when I already do serum, mousse and curl cream!!

Also agree about being able to say the product on the day. We all know that's what this thread is about!!

Please could be avoid spoilers for other calendars, though? I'm saving my Birchbox til January and have just been told what's in the first box!!! Thanks everso 😘

Butterymuffin · 01/12/2019 09:37

Also happy with this. I haven't used it before but am up for trying it, and it's a good size product.

Agree that once we're into the correct day then it's ok to say what the item is. Some people open the night before (have done this myself occasionally at bedtime when I know I'll be rushing about the next morning) but if you're doing that, please save posting till the morning..

@Sparkletastic paper clips? Sad
