M&S Beauty Advent Calendar 2019

Writersblock2 · 21/09/2019 15:53

Starting a thread to discuss the contents as we hit December.

Who is getting this one this year?

This was my very first beauty calendar last year and it’s definitely got me addicted. I loved it!

This year you can order the calendar from 31st October. Price is £40 when you spend £25 at M&S. Contents are worth over £300.

If you do want to know the full contents you can find them over at ReallyRee (SPOLIERS!).

Please don’t discuss the contents ahead of time on here as most people don’t want to know (or as in my case, read then forget!).

Is anyone having the same problem I am with the nail polish? Whole nails are peeling off and I have no idea until I see my naked nail. Chips, acceptable-ish and understandable but the whole lot?Hmm.

ReeRi · 16/12/2019 16:32

@AmethystMoonShine Noted! I have decided to ban myself from shopping until after Christmas so I will put it on my post Christmas / sale shopping list!

GreyHare · 16/12/2019 16:46

@SunshineCake It might be because it is a Chrome style polish, I always find they don't have great staying power and that big pieces peel off, but a couple of coats of topcoat tend to help.

SunshineCake · 16/12/2019 17:04

Thank you @GreyHare.. I'll put two top coats on next time.

AndAnon · 16/12/2019 17:31

Today’s was okay but again a repeat of last year. I know lots of people reacted to it last year, I didn’t but only used it a few times. I tried today’s and it was okay but I have others I prefer. I’m not keen on the mint.

mammmamia · 16/12/2019 17:58

My favourite lip balm is also the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour one! Must try Nuxe at some point.

ReeRi · 16/12/2019 18:19

Pleased a few of you like 8 hour cream! I don’t usually hear it mentioned

Beadstar · 16/12/2019 18:30

EA 8hr cream is also my favourite!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/12/2019 18:34

I love Elizabeth Arden 8 hr cream. But I don’t expect it’s a good seller. I love it. But it lasts ages. I don’t need to buy it very frequently.

ReeRi · 16/12/2019 18:45

No I don’t buy it often and I suppose it’s expensive compared to something like farmed. The lip stick style doesn’t last as long but the pot lasts ages. I got a set at Christmas last year (well I got two actually!) which had a lip balm tin, hand cream, face mist and the 8 hour protectant. I must say I like all of them. I’m not that bothered about facial mists but the 8 hour one is lovely and I use the normal skin protectant as lip balm as well as the dedicated lip balm... I have got some bargains in TK Maxx too

ReeRi · 16/12/2019 18:52

Speaking of lip balm, I just went to a Smile Direct consultation and one of the freebies was an eos style lip balm! I was also given a tooth whitening kit and a £25 amazon voucher which isn’t bad just for going in. I think I will sign up subject to reading more reviews. I had braces as a child but didn’t wear retainers so some teeth have moved a bit and no amount of beauty products will make my feel good about my teeth!

Scarydinosaurs · 16/12/2019 21:36

I love the aveda hair product. It’s made a huge difference to my raggedy ends.

JoanBonJovi · 16/12/2019 21:43

It’s good. I buy the one litre bottles at great expense

mammmamia · 16/12/2019 21:47

Yes the 8 hour lip pot lasts ages and they sell it in a twin pack at duty free which is where I stock up.

Anjelika · 16/12/2019 23:00

I was excited to try today's but couldn't get any out of the tip. I had to squeeze so hard that the other end burst and lip balm was oozing out everywhere. Do you think I could take it into my local M&S and get a replacement?

Costacoffeeplease · 16/12/2019 23:02

There’s a little spike in the lid, if you screw it down really hard it pierces the hole in the top so you can squeeze the product out

SirProjectofThigh · 17/12/2019 06:34

Quite pleased with today’s. It smells nice and I can use it. I am starting to get a little bored of face cream if I’m honest.

AmethystMoonShine · 17/12/2019 06:47

I’ll use this as it has an SPF, so pleased if not dancing on the breakfast table with excitement Xmas Grin
On a separate note regarding the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour chat. I think it might be more known about/popular amongst the slightly more ‘mature’ S and B members? My logic is that back in the 90s when I was in my teens/twenties all the super models (remember them?) raves about it for saving skin when flying long haul and it was always a handbag ‘must have’ for the beautiful crowd when they were interviewed about their staples.
Or am I wrong and do today’s younger crowd use it too?

AmethystMoonShine · 17/12/2019 06:50

.....and for those loving the 8 hour lip balm sticks, which as @ReeRi says don’t last long. I picked up a 3 for 2 pack in duty free this summer which made it a bit more affordable.

Writersblock2 · 17/12/2019 07:34

Happy with today’s day cream, though as above, not terribly exciting.

OP posts:
Beadstar · 17/12/2019 07:37

I’m happy with today’s as we’ve had a night cream and this looks like a day cream that I can use straight on my skin as a moisturiser - I’ve been using the Emma Hardie on top of my usual moisturiser.

I tried the mask last night - it made my skin sting a little!

Beadstar · 17/12/2019 07:41

And yes, Amethyst, EA cream was raved about back then (I think I’d be classed as more ‘mature’!). I got a three pack of tins in duty free a while back but I also like using the tubes, they often come in value sets. I only use it for lips though, they used to say it could be used for everything!

AmethystMoonShine · 17/12/2019 07:49

@Beadstar glad some else remembers the EA 8 hour love! I mainly use for lips too but the actual tube of 8 hour, I’ve found good on a sore nose after excessive blowing after a cold, great for dry cuticles/nails, good for healing burns, softening hard skin on feet (under cotton socks) and for chapped hands. It’s certainly useful Xmas Smile

PrincessWatermelon · 17/12/2019 07:52

Teens in the 90s being mature ladies now??!! I was born in 1981, almost all my teens were 90s and didn't realise I was 'more mature' at 38!! But maybe I'm deluded 😁😁
I do know what you mean, though, the EA was written about in magazines as being the one to own.

PrincessWatermelon · 17/12/2019 07:53

(That was lighthearted btw, and said with a smile on my 'mature' face 😂)
