M&S Beauty Advent Calendar 2019

Writersblock2 · 21/09/2019 15:53

Starting a thread to discuss the contents as we hit December.

Who is getting this one this year?

This was my very first beauty calendar last year and it’s definitely got me addicted. I loved it!

This year you can order the calendar from 31st October. Price is £40 when you spend £25 at M&S. Contents are worth over £300.

If you do want to know the full contents you can find them over at ReallyRee (SPOLIERS!).

Please don’t discuss the contents ahead of time on here as most people don’t want to know (or as in my case, read then forget!).

I’m happy with today’s, I just put some on and it feels nice though I don’t get much mint from it!

Teabeautyandturning40 · 16/12/2019 07:21

Love today's....although you only need a tiny bit as I have just found out Grin

SirProjectofThigh · 16/12/2019 07:30

I’m finding today’s is peeling the dry skin from my lips. Not necessarily a bad thing!

sluj · 16/12/2019 07:36

This is the lip balm make that made my lips and gums swollen and sore for the next two weeks. I wont be opening this one 😩

Writersblock2 · 16/12/2019 07:59

I’m happy with this. Loved last year’s.

I'm unenthusiastic about this one. Was clearing out my bedside drawer and came across the Rose one from last year. It was nice enough, but I use a Clarins lip oil a few times a week and find that's enough. Also remember the tingle from last year, so wondering how much mint and menthol would really tingle!! A swop here.

Butterymuffin · 16/12/2019 08:06

Like this one! Though I do remember a lot of people having trouble with it last year when it was the berry version.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 16/12/2019 08:12

I liked last year's well enough but this is another one that feels a bit samey! It didn't cause any adverse reactions last year though so it will get used.

I am pleasantly surprised by the hair cream yesterday as it appears to be CG friendly so I can actually use it! I am going to try it on dry hair today, to smooth any frizz

ReeRi · 16/12/2019 08:15

I forgot to open mine today but gather it’s the skin lip balm. I didn’t use it last year and it seems it has mixed reviews from you all. I’m a bit fussy with lip balms. My absolute favourite is the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream lip balm but I also like Carmel...

PrincessWatermelon · 16/12/2019 08:24

@Butterymuffin yes, of course, it was berry not rose.

Xmasbaby11 · 16/12/2019 08:43

My lips hated this last year. One to give to a friend I think.

PartTimePunk · 16/12/2019 08:53

I tried it and it's fine on me but I remember plenty of people reacted to last years version.

I'm slightly disappointed with this as I'm on the way to a medical appointment I really don't want to go to and I was hoping for something amazing to distract me. Sad

TheNavigator · 16/12/2019 09:02

I'm not excited by the lip balm. But I have been using the shampoo and the hair stuff from day 1 - I am not sure which it is, or if it is both, but my hair has never been better. Thick, shiny, soft and lovely smelling - a definite re-buy for me.

MirandaWest · 16/12/2019 09:06

I think because this is the first M&S calendar I’ve had that I am probably more excited about everything. Also as I don’t really have any skincare routine Blush it means that I am more likely to use things anyway.

Have put some of this on my lips. Seems fine so far

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/12/2019 09:10

This is ok today. Not too minty or tingly. Lots of air in it.....it farted at me when I squeezed it Grin

ReeRi · 16/12/2019 09:49

@TheNavigator What conditioner did you use with the shampoo? That’s what’s putting me off using it - the lack of conditioner

CointreauVersial · 16/12/2019 11:46

Lip balm - meh. I still have most of last year's in my bedside drawer. It's not amazing.

Mask - hmm. Looks like it might be a bit drying on my ancient leathery skin, so will possibly gift to one of my teenage DDs.

I like the look of the Wonder Balm; I have had good experiences with this brand. I had something similar from them in a previous calendar/beauty box, but you put it on the night before then washed it off in the morning. It looks like it does the same thing as the Aveda product, but that's OK, it will get used. Incidentally, I will have to revise my earlier statement about the Aveda - my hair absolutely loves it! Although I still think the smell could be a lot nicer.

TheNavigator · 16/12/2019 12:42

What conditioner did you use with the shampoo? That’s what’s putting me off using it - the lack of conditioner

I used Elvive colour protect conditioner, which is what I happened to have in the shower at the time. I then used the hair stuff from day 1 before blow drying and my hair feels amazing. I might try using a different shampoo next time to isolate whether it is the hair stuff or the shampoo or the combination of the two.

slalomsuki · 16/12/2019 13:47

Last years lip balm was terrible to get out of the pouch, you had to squeeze it so hard. I think mine is sitting on the top of a cupboard.

The hair product from day 1 is my favourite and I've used it without conditioner and it makes my hair so soft and bouncy. I've kept the mascara as an emergency one in my handbag and I've kept the eyeliner but the rest has been passed to my daughter. Haven't tried yesterday's hair product yet but I do like Percy and Reed.

AmethystMoonShine · 16/12/2019 14:39

I liked the lip balm last year and so pleased but not excited by today.
My favourite is also Elizabeth Arden 8 hour, followed by Nuxe (the one in the pot) and it doesn’t beat those so I won’t purchase.

Writersblock2 · 16/12/2019 14:46

My hair is loving the Percy and Reed. Maybe more so than the Aveda! I will test for longer and see. 🤔

I’m a silly sod - only catching up on the thread today have I realised I’ve opened number 17 this morning Confused in my defence DD woke me up at 5am.

Tupperwarelid · 16/12/2019 15:52

I much prefer this year’s lip balm to the one last year. Also loving the Aveda hair product.

ReeRi · 16/12/2019 16:09

@TheNavigator ha yes you must test properly! 🙂

@AmethystMoonShine That’s interesting. I haven’t tried the Nuxe one!

This thread is making me buy more!

AmethystMoonShine · 16/12/2019 16:18

@ReeRi be sure to get the one in the pot not the stick. The stick is not as good. The pot is particularly good over night. I use 8 hour in the day and Nuxe at night Xmas Grin
