M&S Beauty Advent Calendar 2019

Writersblock2 · 21/09/2019 15:53

Starting a thread to discuss the contents as we hit December.

Who is getting this one this year?

This was my very first beauty calendar last year and it’s definitely got me addicted. I loved it!

This year you can order the calendar from 31st October. Price is £40 when you spend £25 at M&S. Contents are worth over £300.

If you do want to know the full contents you can find them over at ReallyRee (SPOLIERS!).

Please don’t discuss the contents ahead of time on here as most people don’t want to know (or as in my case, read then forget!).

My nails look fine after 2 days. On a par with other brands I use. But then I'd never expect to get more than 4 days max out of a nail polish - mine are always chipped by then. I'm impressed you get 2 weeks!

SomethingAboutNothing · 10/12/2019 07:55

That is really disappointing that they would package it so disingenuously. Not impressed!

It is a moisturiser for the OP that asked, and sounds good for my skin type so hopefully will be good. Shame there isn't more of it Angry

Doubleraspberry · 10/12/2019 07:55

I’ve had good results from Nails Inc before.

SomethingAboutNothing · 10/12/2019 07:57

I'm quite happy with the nail varnish, though it isn't a colour I would usually pick. The first coat didn't last but 2 layers and a top coat seems to have lasted so far.

Writersblock2 · 10/12/2019 08:02

Hm. Wonder why it’s not lasting on me.

@Xmasbaby11 - I find ORLY particularly good for lasting power.

I like a night cream but I don’t find that formula one any different to a generic moisturiser. I won’t use the shampoo as I don’t use stuff with SLSs, parabens etc on my hair but my mum might like it. Otherwise, so far I’m pleased.

I didn’t get a calendar last year, but I had the year before and my face on makeup bag day...

Xmasbaby11 · 10/12/2019 08:11

Thanks for the tip - I've never tried Orly!

starsky22 · 10/12/2019 08:34

Bit late to the thread, feeling a bit meh about the calendar so far, quite a few products I won't use, such as the hair ones as I follow curly girl method and things like night creams and nail varnish that i don't use. Others i will use, but have had before so not very exciting. Was lucky enough to have the liberty calendar last year, had some amazing products that i am still using, so ive been spoiled!
Today's is the first one I've wanted to try straight away, but not impressed, it pilled and now realise it has silicone which usually breaks me out, so probably won't use again.

PrincessWatermelon · 10/12/2019 09:01

I'm enjoying the cleanser, still. And am happy with today's offering. Smells nice, went on nicely and sounds promising. Did wonder if it would be moisturising enough, as I get dry patches, but seems good. I did use my M&S products from the Formula box last night, so my skin is in good shape!!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/12/2019 09:04

That’s cheating to put it in a bigger tube! I think I noticed that with another tube, can’t remember which one.

Is it a day cream?

SunshineCake · 10/12/2019 09:05

My polish has peeled slightly but it still feels better than a lot of others. Only tried the hair stuff and polish so far as being good and using up what I'm on already before starting new stuff.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 10/12/2019 09:10

I really like today's! It goes on easily and sinks in well, leaving a nice finish. I am not sure if it's rich enough for this time of year but might make a good summer face cream, with an SPF over the top. Bloody annoying about the size though, especially as they have been cheeky about it! This is the first one that feels like a sample.

I did my nails on Monday night and it is starting to chip today. However, I used no base or top coat and did a ton of washing up with no gloves on yesterday so it's to be expected really. I will take it off and reapply tonight. I got lots of compliments on it yesterday Smile

redroses86 · 10/12/2019 09:11

I find that I can never get more than a day out of Nails Inc. Have no idea why as it’s meant to be a good brand but just doesn’t last on me. OPI seems to be best on my nails but even that chips after 3/4 days.
I’ve loved the calendar so far, though I need to google today’s....is it a primer? It’s says for morning use on the back.

PartTimePunk · 10/12/2019 09:22

I thought I'd try mine out this morning and it smells dreadful. I don't mean that I don't like the fragrance, it smells like it's gone off.

BlueBelle81 · 10/12/2019 10:17

I loved the Nuxe body lotion last year and was sorely tempted to buy again but it's way out of my price range. This doesn't feel quite as luxurious. The scent reminds me of that Boots or Body Shop body spray that every girl in my school wore in the mid nineties (was it Aphrodite?)

For the pp who said that the Ren smells of Brasso: I was trying to figure it out and had settled on bees wax furniture polish. I still like it though but it might just be the novelty of using something I'd never usually buy.

I'm pretty chuffed with it all so far. Even the repeats were things I enjoyed last year. I'd have liked to try a new mascara though.

Smellslikebiscuits · 10/12/2019 10:49

Although it’s a small sample. It’s £29.50 for 40ml in John Lewis, so by my calculations it’s worth £11 for 15ml.

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 10/12/2019 10:51

It's lasted with no issues in my toes, haven't tried it on fingers yet

Love nuxe, I treated myself to a couple of their items when I bought the calendar and my face feels incredible atm

mashpot · 10/12/2019 11:41

I thought today’s was a primer, rather than a moisturiser?
My nail polish has lasted brilliantly since Saturday but I did base coat, 2 coats of polish and a top coat!

Beadstar · 10/12/2019 11:56

I’m going to use today’s after moisturiser I think as it has a high alcohol content and silicones.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 10/12/2019 12:10

It's described on Look Fantastic as a moisturizer? It does have a very primer-like finish though.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/12/2019 12:49

Xmas my DD loves Orly , they do a rubberised base coat which (sounds weird) helps it stay put .

Superdrugs sell it , quite often have BOGOHP .

Doubleraspberry · 10/12/2019 13:06

Any Nuxe lovers should look to France, where it is much cheaper, even with postage. There are online ‘French pharmacie’ sites that sell the shower gel for under €7 for example. I see on the one I use that Nuxe has its own advent calendar for €60 still in stock...

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 10/12/2019 19:58

I wouldn't but this one again. Too much by way of face creams-enough already.

It needs more make-up and perfumes.

CointreauVersial · 10/12/2019 20:25

I love Nuxe, and will probably get the use out of today's offering.

TigerJoy · 10/12/2019 20:50

Hello I'm new to this thread. LOVING the advent calendar which is my first beauty advent calendar.

Fave so far is the aveda from day 1 - my thin fine hair looks lovely as long as I don't use too much. I've used it every day. Also love the cleanser (love rose).

I don't understand what today's gift is. Is it moisturiser?
