M&S Beauty Advent Calendar 2019

Starting a thread to discuss the contents as we hit December.

Who is getting this one this year?

This was my very first beauty calendar last year and it’s definitely got me addicted. I loved it!

This year you can order the calendar from 31st October. Price is £40 when you spend £25 at M&S. Contents are worth over £300.

If you do want to know the full contents you can find them over at ReallyRee (SPOLIERS!).

Please don’t discuss the contents ahead of time on here as most people don’t want to know (or as in my case, read then forget!).

Looking at the other threads, Cult Beauty stands out as a really good one but it was very limited in numbers and came in at £150. Ouch!

I think I might go for Cult Beauty next year. The price of this and the Glossybox one is almost the same so I may as well. Not loving Glossybox after a strong start. I use this cream though, so I’ll save it for travel like PP said.

Doubleraspberry · 08/12/2019 10:05

As one of the owners of this year’s Cult Beauty calendar I will agree that it’s got the quirky products.

Doubleraspberry · 08/12/2019 10:06

And I’m generally grateful for everything I get in advent calendars but I was a bit Hmm at getting two products from the same brand within a week. Maybe a bit later in the month would have been better.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 08/12/2019 10:17

Thanks! I don't think I could stretch to a Cult Beauty one but H&B looks like really good value and some excellent products!

I am hoping for a day cream, serum or perfume for tomorrow....

Jumpi · 08/12/2019 10:24

Why would anyone need 5 calendars? Confused

ReeRi · 08/12/2019 10:48

So I remember we got this exact product last year and in fact I have been using it only recently. I wasn’t wowed by it but found it’s better if I lay on a bit thicker and it is nice to have this one and the eye and lip one together...

ReeRi · 08/12/2019 10:52

Each to their own @Jumpi but I would personally spend my money on different beauty gift sets / full size sets / palettes rather than hundreds on calendars when I won’t use a lot of it

Did anyone see the Cult Beauty Starter Set.
That was good for £30. I got it as a gift for a colleague but it makes me think the cult beauty calendar might be good

@Doubleraspberry You don’t have to be grateful for getting something nice in an advent calendar - you paid for it. It’s ok to expect value for money!

PartTimePunk · 08/12/2019 11:00

I suppose I'll use this but I'm not thrilled at having another product from the same brand in the same week like a PP said.

I like the sound of the cult beauty one. I think quirky products is really what I'm after. I'd better start saving for next year!

Jumpi · 08/12/2019 11:19

It’s just an insane level of greed that I’m not used to seeing. I put money aside each month for a calendar this year only to find it, and most alternatives in my price range, had sold out. People on here have multiples bought just for the sake of it, who really needs 5 calendars’ worth of sample sized products that will surely be repeated throughout.

Anyway, yes @ReeRi, each to their own as you say. That cult beauty starter set looks like a great gift.

mammmamia · 08/12/2019 11:45

I’m quite happy with today’s - I liked it last year and I really didn’t like the Ren one. So I will use it but it’s anither night cream and another repeat!

JoanBonJovi · 08/12/2019 11:46

Bored with creams

JoanBonJovi · 08/12/2019 11:46

Wore the eyeliner yesterday. Thin line then smudged up the lid - lasted for ages

Writersblock2 · 08/12/2019 12:08

@Jumpi why would anyone need any? I don’t think I paid full advertised price for any. I got H&B for next to nothing (around £13 in the end) because I had vouchers that would have otherwise expired, for example. Both LiB and Grazia were heavily discounted with cashback on both.

I’m not quite sure why you’re worried what I’m spending on calendars, tbh. Presumably you also go around telling off people who buy more clothes than they “need”, or more of whatever they buy that you don’t think they should.

From the sound of your last post it sounds like you’re comparing my purchase of five calendars to your saving up to find most has sold out.

Yeah, you’re right. Grateful is the wrong word. Easily pleased is a better way to describe it. I very rarely feel very disappointed with whatever is in the box for the day. My particular inner sighs are make up sponges, highlighter things (no idea how to do it and can’t see myself trying) and nail files. Other than that, I’m basically cheery.

ReeRi · 08/12/2019 12:25

@Doubleraspberry I know what you mean. It’s easy to take things for granted and it’s good that you don’t seem to.

Jumpi · 08/12/2019 14:00

From the sound of your last post it sounds like you’re comparing my purchase of five calendars to your saving up to find most has sold out.

Well, yes. Of course I am. Plenty of people missed out on getting one calendar due to them selling out whilst others have 5.

Perhaps next year if individuals aren’t so greedy then there’ll be more to go around 🤷🏻‍♀️ But I suppose that could be said about many things in life these days.

colaelf · 08/12/2019 14:02

Jumpi, the reason you didn't get an advent calendar is because you left it too late, simple as.

Jumpi · 08/12/2019 14:28

But surely if that person only bought 1 then there would have been 4 more free for others to buy?

Anyway, taking my upset at missing out away from it, I still would have enjoyed the calendar threads if it wasn’t for the level of greed on display.

ReeRi · 08/12/2019 14:47

@Jumpi I don’t know why you keep talking about “greed”. It’s very rude! I only have the M&S calendar this year. That was my choice. I’ve missed out on things because they were popular and sold out but so what? Should some people who already have calendars deprive themselves and not even try to get something they want so that someone more deserving(?) might get it? But it could go to someone even more greedy! Then what?! Just be happy with what you have.

Writersblock2 · 08/12/2019 14:55

There were still calendars being sold when we hit December. There may even be some calendars now. It’s unfortunate that you’re so terribly bitter. Once upon a time I wouldn’t have been able to afford any calendars but I certainly didn’t resent people who could or go out of my way to try and make them feel bad.

OP posts:
Batshittery · 08/12/2019 15:42

You shouldn't feel bad Writer You are quite entitled to spend your own money how you like. It is wrong and rude for someone to suggest it's greedy.
I'm a bit meh at another night cream

KeithPartridge · 08/12/2019 16:12

Completely agree with you Writer. Lots of things sell out but if you snooze you lose that's just how it is!! I would have missed out on Cult Beauty except someone mentioned it here. If I had I would just shrug my shoulders and think well that's life.

Beadstar · 08/12/2019 16:38

I liked this product when I had the calendar two years ago so I’m happy with it.

ReeRi · 08/12/2019 16:38

I’m not sure whether it does anything. It’s definitely moisturising enough but not wow
