It’s almost that time again! Anyone have their eye on anything?

There is a good overview here: www.marieclaire.co.uk/beauty/beauty-advent-calendars-2019-39069

I’m waiting on the M&S one as I loved it so much last year (no sign of it so far but I suspect it will be similar to 2018 for release date, so around start of November). I also like the look of the Look Fantastic and Nuxe but three may be pushing it. Grin

If money was no object I’d be on the Jo Malone and Lush calendars.

I like the look of the Fenwick one last year (didn’t get it) but it looks good again. I am drawn to the ones with make up from brands such as Bobbi brown, mac, Charlotte Tilbury, hourglass, Nars, Laura Mercier... but I’m tempter by ESPA too

SleepandYoga · 01/09/2019 08:51

The net a porter one looks good too but I also like to watch the YouTube unboxings. They were our super early last year.

FizzyPink · 01/09/2019 09:43

Does anyone know if the rituals one was suitable for men last year? DP loves rituals hand soap/candles/diffusers and often has a hand massage in there Hmm but I won’t bother if it’s going to be full of women’s fragrances

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 01/09/2019 10:48

@RJnomore1 a funnel? What's that all about? I wasn't into advent calendars in 2017, do tell!

Alsohuman · 01/09/2019 10:52

It’s to decant perfume. Or other liquid beauty products.

Soola · 01/09/2019 11:08

My step daughter has mentioned this

Lumene

‘The Scandi skincare brand has filled this Nordic delight with a range of its best-selling products—including its new skin tint and my go-to vitamin C serum—as well as products that are let to launch in the UK.’

Available: October 2019

Talisin · 01/09/2019 11:15

The classic HOF advent thread for those who missed it.

INeedAFlerken · 01/09/2019 11:46

I had the Lumene calendar last year. Absoltely loved it.

Housewife2010 · 01/09/2019 12:03

I had the Lumene calendar last year. It was lovely and there was a gorgeous eyeshadow stick in it.

MorrisZapp · 01/09/2019 12:13

The Lumene one does look amazing. Are there any high street stockists so I can test the brand?

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 01/09/2019 12:16

Just had a glance at the HOF thread, love that a cat's paw was used to demonstrate the size of the funnel 😂

SequinnedSlippers · 01/09/2019 13:08

Quite fancy the Body Shop body and bath one. Skin on my face is quite sensitive, so I’d actually get good use out of that one. Often the skincare/make-up ones I end up giving away a lot of the items.

Plus I used to work for a small charity that specialised in sexual health, family planning and mother & baby medical care in Africa, Asia and South America which merged with Plan about 10 years ago. So it’s always nice to support them. They did some amazing work on forced marriage, and ensuring access to sexual health services, contraception and maternal/baby care with some very, very vulnerable and underserved communities.

I was going to get glossybox again but it doesn't really do it for me this year. It has 2 eyeliners - pointless. I fancy either Look Fantastic or Debenhams, might try to get both. Curious about contents of Latest in Beauty too, it may be a contender.

Caggie09 · 01/09/2019 13:27

Im so excited, im glad ive found others that are too!

Last year i had fourBlush I just love opening them! I had a Glossybox one but its just bog standard beauty box brands. JL, that was good but seems similar to this years so wouldnt get. Elle was really good, will see of it price drops this year. Also had Jo Loves, would prefer multi brands tbh.

Will be treating myself to Fortnum one, keep an eye out for Elle, quite fancy latest in beauty, but again its sub box brands! But im also going the get the SpaceNk crackers this year, otherwise SpaceNk advent would be a good shout too!

Very tempted to buy one just to open next month🙈

happytobemrsg · 01/09/2019 15:30

I’ve never had a beauty Advent Calendar before 😳 currently on maternity leave & very tempted by the ESPA one as I could do with some pampering. Plus it gives me an extra month to save up for it...

YouWereRight · 01/09/2019 16:56

I've had the M&S one for the last couple of years, and have enjoyed it.

But the Liberty one always tempts me. At the moment I'm looking for a new job following redundancy, so when I get a new job, I might just be able to justify it.

SleepandYoga · 01/09/2019 21:42

Anyone else following this thread and the one about not buying an advent calendar this year? 🤣

LilaGrace · 01/09/2019 22:06

I had the Diptyque one and the White Company one last year. Both were great- but won't get the Diptyque one again as it's similar to last year and I'd rather buy fewer choice Diptyque products to suit me rather than lots of miniatures, some of which I wouldn't choose. That said, the quality was great and the advent calendar has been an amazing way for me to sample the brand.
I'm looking at the Jo Malone one and the Space NK one this year. I love Jo Malone and the fact it has some of the new fragrances in is appealing. But love the Space NK multi brand option and trying out products I'd never normally look at. So watching this thread with interest.

LazyLizzy · 01/09/2019 22:48

I bought DD the Glossybox last year, it was great. Not so impressed this year.

Would love the Jo Malone one for myself but bit pricey.

LazyLizzy · 01/09/2019 22:52

SleepandYoga I need to follow the other thread. £320 for a Jo Malone calendar could pay for a minibreak in Europe instead Grin

MountainDweller · 02/09/2019 00:42

I've had the Liberty one for the last 2 years and loved it, though there are still some bits I haven't used and probably won't. It was shipped to me abroad both years btw to the pp who said it only shipped abroad from last year Smile. Living abroad definitely limits my choice!

Does anyone know anything about the Liberty GWP that usually happens around Sept? Ive heard it mentioned before on these threads as alternative to the advent calendar and was thinking about it... but no idea when it happens!

Housewife2010 · 02/09/2019 05:53

Really Ree has updated the Liberty Advent contents. Many of the sizes are much smaller than listed yesterday.

BlueBilledBeatboxingBird · 02/09/2019 06:48

I don’t know where you’re based, @MountainDweller, but 2018 was definitely the first year that they shipped to USA and Asia. I can’t speak to anywhere else. Previously the issue had been the restrictions on sending liquids internationally.

The pound is so weak that even with international shipping it is a bargain from outside the UK so I expect international demand will be even higher this year.

Alsohuman · 02/09/2019 07:11

The Liberty GWP goodie bag is usually the second Thursday in September. It’s usually really good.

MountainDweller · 02/09/2019 12:26

Ah @BlueBilledBeatboxingBird I'm in Europe so that explains it.

I get the impression nail varnish is the biggest problem for shipping abroad, and have noticed there was no nail varnish in either of the Liberty calendars I had!

Thanks @Alsohuman for the info on the Liberty gift - I will keep my eyes peeled. I'm on their mailing list but never get any emails Sad
