Beauty Advent Calendars 2019

It’s almost that time again! Anyone have their eye on anything?

There is a good overview here: www.marieclaire.co.uk/beauty/beauty-advent-calendars-2019-39069

I’m waiting on the M&S one as I loved it so much last year (no sign of it so far but I suspect it will be similar to 2018 for release date, so around start of November). I also like the look of the Look Fantastic and Nuxe but three may be pushing it. Grin

If money was no object I’d be on the Jo Malone and Lush calendars.

I bought the Debenhams one for half price on Black Friday last year. I loved it, but there was no way I would have paid the full price, it wasn't worth that.

I also bought the Charlotte Tilbury one Blush
I think that one (last year's one) will also be half price on Black Friday.

The Look Fantastic ones are very repetitive, especially if you subscribe to the monthly beauty boxes.

Great thread OP, I'm already excited Shock

I loved the M & S calendar last year. I was disappointed with the Boots one. I might try something different this year.

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 31/08/2019 12:14

Yes I think the amazon one looks a bit lower-end / basic (in contrast to the beauty box I've had from them before). I think I might stick with M&S.

banskuwansku · 31/08/2019 12:46

I bought Mugler Angel calendar after Xmas and it was good. I still have some do no need to get it again. I am not sure what to go for this year.

lightningstrikes · 31/08/2019 13:01

@Writersblock2 I have not tried Space NK before. Last year I went mad and had Selfridges, John Lewis and one from Boots. Then DH got me the Debenham as well! I am still well stocked in minis. The Space NK is pricey, but full of things I will actually use. We'll see closer to the time as I do love to snatch them up when they get discounted!

Anchovies12 · 31/08/2019 13:11

Also bought the decleor one last year and wouldn't recommend. Would love the diptique one but dont know if I can justify the cost.

Offredismysister · 31/08/2019 13:14

Last year I had the Elle one. I did like the contents and the value was good as I got it half price. But the packaging was rubbish. The year before I had liberty & look fantastic, both of which I loved.

This year either Space NK or Liberty for me.

MorrisZapp · 31/08/2019 13:21

I started a thread last year to recruit converts to my hard-line no buying stance on advent calendars :) Not in a lecturing way, more of a buyers remorse thing. Can't find it now. Any bright spark able to help?

PinkysEars · 31/08/2019 13:35

It's here Morris.

I'm afraid I'm not a convert though, I'm excited about Fortnum, Liberty & Harrods. Had Liberty last year and absolutely loved it.

Soola · 31/08/2019 13:40

Harrod’s one this year also looks promising and Harpers Bazaar have released what the contents will be,

Plump82 · 31/08/2019 14:01

I've already bought mine. I've got the BareMinerals one. I had the Boots one last year and it was ok. Lots of minis which come in handy for trips away. The Sleek makeup ones are always good. The No 7 was decent as well. I had the Soap and Glory one a few years back. But it was too repetitive

Last year I thought that beauty advent calendars had reached their peak and there would be fewer this year. The Elle and John Lewis calendars were each reduced a couple of times and the Space NK one took a while to sell. It seems I was proved wrong and there will be as many this year.

LillithsFamiliar · 31/08/2019 14:18

I had the M&S one last year. The Laura Mercier one before that. I think I'll opt for M&S again. I really liked it.
I love the Harry Potter one on the link. DC is a massive fan and loves bath bombs/fizzers so it's perfect.

MorrisZapp · 31/08/2019 14:51

Omg! The Fortnum and Mason one looks amazing! Do I spy a full size Bum Bum cream?

Also loads of them have Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream, I'd love to know what size.

I'm paying off my mortgage in November so I may have to swallow my words this year :)

MorrisZapp · 31/08/2019 14:52

The John Lewis one was over priced last year. They must surely know how savvy and price aware a market we are, there's no excuse for it.

Alsohuman · 31/08/2019 14:54

I was so disappointed with the M&S one last year, while being consumed with envy at the Liberty calendar. So it’s hang the expense this year.

Grafittiqueen · 31/08/2019 14:58

The m&s one is great. I've had it a couple of times. I've always lusted over the Liberty one but it just always seems too much money that close to Xmas.

MorrisZapp · 31/08/2019 15:14

The asos one contains a full size Elemis pcmc!!

Chillichutney1 · 31/08/2019 15:17

Last year I had the John Lewis one (bought for half price) which was pretty good, and the Harper’s bazaar beauty box which was absolutely amazing, Lots of full size products which I will rebuy. Still have some more minis to finish up before I buy this year’s calendar

This year I would like:
Liberty
Look fantastic
Diptyque
Elemis
Space NK

Will probably just get the M&S one which is ok for the price!

lightningstrikes · 31/08/2019 16:49

@Writersblock2 - They all had things that were fab, I didn't pay full price for any of them. John Lewis was probably better for me - skincare, perfume and not too much make-up (which I tend to gift to others). I also had the Harper's Bazaar beauty box, which I got discounted - that was the best by far. I'll keep an eye out for that again if it goes to discount. It was all too much though - I gave loads away and still have bits to use up. I'll be far more restrained this year!

Writersblock2 · 31/08/2019 18:01

@lightningstrikes oooh I might look out for the JL one then; I have the same preferences. Do you remember when it came down in price?

OP posts:
lightningstrikes · 31/08/2019 18:24

I don't remember, sorry! It must have been mid-December??

LemonAddict · 31/08/2019 18:37

I had the Jo Malone calendar last year, amazing value for money and still going strong, I’ve been experimenting with layering scents and they’re the perfect size for travel.

I’ve got my eye on the Space NK calendar this year.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 31/08/2019 18:43

I've heard Holland and Barrett do a good one too especially if you get it half price.

Think I'll stick with M & S - the day by day thread was great last year Grin
