Beauty Advent Calendars 2019

It’s almost that time again! Anyone have their eye on anything?

There is a good overview here: www.marieclaire.co.uk/beauty/beauty-advent-calendars-2019-39069

I’m waiting on the M&S one as I loved it so much last year (no sign of it so far but I suspect it will be similar to 2018 for release date, so around start of November). I also like the look of the Look Fantastic and Nuxe but three may be pushing it. Grin

If money was no object I’d be on the Jo Malone and Lush calendars.

So which advent calendars are likely to be overstocked and therefore be reduced?

And which are likely to be a sellout?

Trying to work out if I can delay an M&S purchase on the basis that one of the fancy pants expensive ones will be vastly reduced! Not to the same price as M&S I mean, just... cheaper... much cheaper

Alsohuman · 31/08/2019 19:02

Liberty sold out last year. So did JL online, I’m astonished anyone got one half price.

littlepooch · 31/08/2019 19:21

This thread is dangerous! Now I want the space nk one.

And I'm remembering how gorgeous the liberty one was last year so I'm swaying toward getting it again.

But I really want the elemis one! Waaaah. #firstworldproblems

GingerKittenHuman · 31/08/2019 20:35

I had the Holland and Barrett one last year (and M & S) and it was excellent.

A good range of products and I’ve actually used them all whereas there’s always a few from the M and S one that I don’t use.

It was sold out online quite quickly but I managed to get one in store for half price. It was so heavy that DH carried it. Most items were full size. Hoping to get another one this year and ditching the M & S one.

toffee1000 · 31/08/2019 20:46

I’m keen on the Body Shop one. I know not everyone on here likes TBS but I do. Through looking at the calendar contents, one of this year’s Christmas scents is pear, which I love the sound of! The others are vanilla, which they do almost every year, and plum, which they’ve also done before.

lightningstrikes · 31/08/2019 21:13

@Alsohuman the JL ones sold out very quickly once they went half price. I nabbed one when someone else posted about the price drop on last years thread. Grin It was overpriced at full price tbh.

Blingysolightly · 31/08/2019 21:59

Ooh I love this thread. I had the Jo Malone one last year and Diptique the year before. I actually quite fancy the ultimate Body Shop one this year and the candles oneGrin.

M&S and Amazon were also good last year, I gave them as early Christmas presents and they were well received!

SleepandYoga · 31/08/2019 22:01

I’d like to see what’s in the M&S one as I got that last year and I think it was really good for the price

The lush one is really expensive

Bumbl · 31/08/2019 22:14

I've been waiting for this thread!! I'm torn between Asos and Look Fantastic. I've had the m&s one for the last couple of years. I wish they would reveal the contents sooner though.

toffee1000 · 31/08/2019 23:58

Sadly I don’t think any of this year’s advent calendar threads will be as entertaining as the House of Fraser one from 2017, I remember being part of that, the calendar was so hilariously shit Grin

RJnomore1 · 31/08/2019 23:58

No toffee, I can’t imsgine a funnel being on offer again 😔

SouthWestmom · 01/09/2019 00:15

I always get dd (21) the Amazon one in Black Friday (35 not 50) and she loves it - false eyelashes, make up, beauty blenders etc.

QOD · 01/09/2019 02:07

I had the No 7 one last year and absolutely worth the money but also the Molton Brown at an eye watering £175 as a gift. Was a bit meh

puffyeyedsugarmonster · 01/09/2019 06:18

Yay so glad I've found this thread! I had the Liberty calendar for 2 years in a row and loved it but switched last year as I thought it might be a bit samey. I bought a Fenwick's one and it was amazing! I never see them mentioned on these threads but it was well on par with the Liberty one if not better and about £30/40 cheaper!

Theseptemberissues · 01/09/2019 06:53

I had the ASOS one last year and thought it was great. Tempted by that again, though I do have a Glossybox subscription so could get that one a bit cheaper. Would love to buy the spacenk one but mat leave budget doesn’t stretch that far!

BlueBilledBeatboxingBird · 01/09/2019 07:15

There was extra demand for Liberty last year because they shipped internationally for the first time. I had one two years ago and it was absolutely beautiful but it was a bit wasted on me at the time; I was in my first trimester and sick as a dog, and the thought of using anything with any scent at all turned my stomach. I ended up shoving a lot of the contents into a drawer until I could face looking at them. It really was beautiful though, and although expensive genuinely good value for money to try a range of high-end brands. I ended up hiding the MN open-along thread, however, when it got so moany about the contents that it was spoiling it for me.

I was bought the amazon one as a gift. It was pretty cheap and nasty I’m afraid and I used very little of the contents - press-on nails, fake tan, false lashes etc which I would just never use.

Strawberryfield12 · 01/09/2019 07:19

The contents of this year’s Liberty has just been released:

BlueBilledBeatboxingBird · 01/09/2019 07:23

Ooooh @strawberryfield12 that’s really tempted me. No specifics for anyone who is avoiding spoilers but that is a lot of full-size products. I have a November birthday...

Housewife2010 · 01/09/2019 07:24

John Lewis was available for ages and was reduced twice on line. I bought it at half price.

Alsohuman · 01/09/2019 07:27

Thank you @Strawberryfield12. That’s saved me over £200.

SophoclesTheFox · 01/09/2019 07:37

I had the body shop one last year, I was pretty impressed. To be fair, it was my first, so I was probably quite easy to impress. I got the luxury one and it had lots of full size products, including three drops of youth products. Bit heavy on the body lotions, which I’m still working my way through, a couple of which were fruity horrors.

Are there any other cruelty free recs?

HalloumiGus · 01/09/2019 07:40

Thanks for links! I got a rituals one last year. I loved the body washes and candles (although candles all the same) but a few too many hand cream and body lotion type things for me. Would try a different one this year.

Housewife2010 · 01/09/2019 07:45

I've had the Liberty calendar for the last three years but it seems to go up £20 a year. Last year it was £195 for £600 worth. This year it is £215. It was £165 when I first had it so it's a massive jump. It looks great but I think there are a few mistakes in Ree's list. The Susanne Kaufman product can't be 250ml. It's smaller than the Votary. Re the Parfums Vilhelm scent, I can't find the listed one anywhere and I doubt that it's 100 ml. It's a very expensive brand and it looks about 10 ml in the photo.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 01/09/2019 07:50

I think I’m going to give Liberty a miss this year. I joined Beauty Pie a few months ago and for £200 I could refill my old Liberty calendar with some verrrry nice stuff.

Writersblock2 · 01/09/2019 08:08

I don’t think I’d use a fair few of the Liberty so that’s one I won’t be getting. Phew! Wink
