Beauty Advent Calendars 2019

It’s almost that time again! Anyone have their eye on anything?

There is a good overview here: www.marieclaire.co.uk/beauty/beauty-advent-calendars-2019-39069

I’m waiting on the M&S one as I loved it so much last year (no sign of it so far but I suspect it will be similar to 2018 for release date, so around start of November). I also like the look of the Look Fantastic and Nuxe but three may be pushing it. Grin

If money was no object I’d be on the Jo Malone and Lush calendars.

@Housewife2010 don’t forget that once you have purchased the M&S one you can return the item or items that made the qualifying spend.

It’s in their T&C’s that you still keep the calendar as it was not a free purchase but a paid for one.

Housewife2010 · 04/09/2019 08:13

Soola, I always do that!

Bluesheep8 · 04/09/2019 08:21

I was given the Body Shop one last year. Loved it!

ReeReeR · 04/09/2019 08:35

The M&S one looks good to me for the price. It’s slightly more expensive at £40 but the required spend is £25 whereas I think it was £35 before

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 04/09/2019 09:25

Soola that's interesting!

I think I'm going to get the M & S one again as the value is fantastic.

If funds weren't an issue I'd buy so many of the others.

Something else worth considering around Black Friday is one off beauty subsection boxes. Last year I got 2 from Birchbox (I think) for £12 including delivery. Downside was I didn't know which "month " I would get so wasn't able to check the contents ahead. I liked all the items though (think there was 5 in each and at least one was fully size).

If you go through a cash back site you can get a few extra pennies too.

Could make good gifts for teens?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 04/09/2019 09:28

Ree yes so I think total cost (assuming you don't return items 😁) is cheaper than last year.

Does anyone else's stomach nose dive at the till when they put the calendar through before the qualifying purchase and you see the £125 or however much the value is, pops up?!

Nanasueathome · 04/09/2019 09:39

I had the Liberty calendar 2years running, as a gift
Last year I bought the Liberty GWP
I think you had to spend £150 on beauty products and you then got £400 worth of free products
I used the freebies to fill an empty previous year calendar and my daughter had that as a gift from her 5 year old
Much better than the actual Advent calendar
I already have my products in my bag at Liberty, just waiting for the offer now

WeCameToDance · 04/09/2019 10:24

What does everybody think of the Look Fantastic one this year? I think it looks really good but I am wondering if there's a catch... (Like teeny tiny sample sizes). It seems like a good range of products for £79, particularly if you like skin care.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 04/09/2019 10:30

@WeCameToDance it should tell you the sizes of the products in the description? I had it two years ago and they were very generous sizes.

Is anyone here not in the UK and worried about Brexit and shopping online from the UK/deliveries?

Yes I know, priorities... Confused Blush

LemonBreeland · 04/09/2019 10:48

I'm new to these advent calendars, but I really like the look of the ASOS one.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 04/09/2019 10:49

Always if you get your calendar in time you could fill the little boxes with pebbles and use as weapons at the heads of rampaging marauders who've got wind of your skincare stockpile Grin

LemonBreeland · 04/09/2019 10:52

I've had a look at last years Amazon one, can anyone tell me how much it was?

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 04/09/2019 10:54

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz My skincare stockpile 😂😂😂

Housewife2010 · 04/09/2019 12:09

I've had Liberty for the last three years but I'm not happy that the price has increased so much this year. The selling point for me are the perfumes but I'm not sure about this year's scents. (I'm not keen on vanilla or white florals) Last year I was going to fill my old Liberty box with the Liberty GWP and a fabulous Latest in Beauty box which had a Givenchy lipstick but I caved in and bought the advent. I can't find a perfect advent calendar to replace Liberty for me. Fortnum & Mason looks promising but there's no niche scent in it.

VanillaSugarr · 04/09/2019 12:11

Hi I have been a Liberty advent calendar fan for years but lst year I fancied a break and bought the Decleor calendar. Never again! Might try the Fortnums one this year.

Housewife2010 · 04/09/2019 12:37

During Advent calendar season, if I can't sleep at night I plan my perfect Liberty calendar in my head ( so there's a Le Labo scent and all the usual brands). I'm usually asleep by 5th December!

Nanasueathome · 04/09/2019 12:45

The Fortnum’s is available now to pre order and delivery is around 25th October
I did ask them if you pre-ordered did you pay there and then or when it was sent out
You actually pay when you place the pre order

CopperTrolley · 04/09/2019 12:53

I want to get the Rituals one, which I thought was available from 1 September but the website just says coming soon. Have I missed it or isn’t it out yet?

Caggie09 · 04/09/2019 13:21

@Housewife2010, i love that you plan out the perfect advent in your head when your trying to sleep!Grin

LazyLizzy · 04/09/2019 15:13

CopperTrolley I was just coming on to ask the same thing.

When you Google Rituals advent calendar it comes up with 'available online now' but it's not.

Strawberryfield12 · 04/09/2019 15:37

NanaSueathome the fact F&M are charging at the moment you place an order for calendar might be a good thing. I have account with Lloyds bank and they have F&M cashback offer of 5% expiring tomorrow. I placed the order on Monday, my account has been charged, now just need to see if I get £10 back....

Not sure about M&S calendar this year, bit samey samey, I think. I might stick with F&M only and if there are some nice advents going on sale in November would snap that one up. Hearst Magazines seem every year end pull off very good value beauty boxes and if they go on sale on Balck Friday, it would be a madness not to get it.

DameXanaduBramble · 04/09/2019 15:46

I’m passing on the JL one this year. I don’t want three aqua de Parma soaps really. Last year’s had the perfume and body lotion. The perfume is the same guerlain as last year and there’s a full size rhubarb one of the same brand that I didn’t like at all last year. I agree with the this works pillow spray, boring. There’s a Bobbi brown eyeshadow that looks nice and I don’t need or want a red lipstick.

ReeReeR · 04/09/2019 18:14

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz I think it might even have been more than that(!) but I think it’s a bit of a con as no one would pay that. Or do they have to give it a value maybe 🤔

I actually got an M&S one free last year! I ordered two (for me and MIL), with two separate online purchases then went to collect my order (email said it was ready). Got to M&S and everything but one of the calendars was there so he asked me to come back tomorrow. I said they are all over the store so can he give me one from store stock? I was 8 months pregnant and not that close to store. He gave me another and obviously a didn’t say on the system so I was getting emails to say my advent calendar had arrived. I didn’t collect it obviously but then they refunded me the £35. I even called customer services but they said there was no way to refund me 😬

TattiePants · 04/09/2019 19:17

@Nanasueathome is perfume classed as 'Beauty' for the Liberty GWP and do I need to sign up in advance?

happytobemrsg · 04/09/2019 19:19

Look Fantastic is available for pre-order- I just ordered mine - my first beauty Advent Calendar! Super excited
