Greece Ella. South Pelion to be exact. We always rent a fab (but v simple/rustic/ secluded ) house in its own small bay/ beachfront. It is ££££ (as it sleeps 8 and we rent it as only two people in mid summer ) but absolutely, totally, utterly, completely worth it. We have been there every summer holiday for the last 12 years now, and it feels like 'our' summer house.. and if we ever won the lottery, this is where we would buy something..

GinandGingerBeer · 17/05/2019 21:50

Oh Ella I do sympathise. I'm prone to uti's and they become severe very quickly. I do hope the antibiotics kick in soon.
If you have some bicarb in, mix up a few teaspoons in cold water and neck it. It helps neutralise your urine.
If you start to feel worse/ raised temp call nhs for advice won't you? They can turn nasty xx

Home now! 3 hours later than planned.
Very large gin:

Ella I recommend. Boots high strength 400 mg double strength Ibuprofen (take 4 in one go... F the recommended dosage, ..it works.. .) but you are a nurse, and surely, you can get better drugs than I can?

SoyYo · 17/05/2019 21:56

Oh Ella! I’m in the Norfolk wilds with iffy internet connection but just wanted to say I feel for you darling, I’ve been there Flowers if it’s any consolation tomorrow the burning pain should go.
@Not you look great in both wrens! The blue is lovely too, and the sandals!! 😍
So we’ve got our ol mate Bob Dylan playing in the car and it’s raining oh joy (not).
And @Gins tale reminded me of a similar thing that happened to DH and I. I’ll tell you to entertain you Ella.
Our DC were 12 and 8 and we decided it was time for their first trip to see DGP on their own. Thinking back I think we were a bit mad but in our defence it was a straight fast non stop train from Peterborough to Coupar, no changing at Edinburgh.
They had allocated seating and we had informed British Rail who knew they were minors so...train arrives we went in to seat them in the right seats. Fussing a lot: do this don’t do that make sure your phone is charged your drinks and food don’t forget Xyz and granny and grandpa are waiting for you...blah blah blah
Train doors shut.
Panic!
We’re in the train next stop is York Grin
Car parked back in Peterborough station with only 1 hour on the meter and our boys so embarrassed by us (specially the 12 year old).

Getting back was another story but off we went to York standing in between carriages DH and I keeping an eye on our boys in their allocated seating...

Huffthepuff · 17/05/2019 21:56

Oh poor you Ella. That's rubbish. Hope the antibiotics kick in soon 💐

Not you look fab! Is that the Toast skirt? I now want the sandals ffs. Love the fact that they have a slight lift in the heel. Are they really super comfy? Never I blame you too.

Laska that sounds idyllic. Love that you go to the same place each year. I'd like to do that. I love travel but I'm very homely and like routine so it appeals to me

SoyYo · 17/05/2019 22:03

Glad you’re home safe @Gin and your Lush purchases look...lush! But I like the sound of G&T even more!

@Laska that house in Greece sounds paradise on Earth. You lucky peeps!

Laska2Meryls · 17/05/2019 22:09

Huff we really like to travel (and hope to do much more now we are getting on for both of us to retire-DH just has, but not me yet.. We also love city breaks, but Summer? It has to be Pelion, Greece.. Such a beautiful place and such lovely people ,which have won our hearts over the years.,(if only we were the sort of people who can afford a 2nd home, but no, sadly, not us!)

Binkybix · 17/05/2019 22:10

ella poor you :(

I was meant to be out-our tonight. Travelled, hotel booked and decided I still don’t feel well enough for a big night. Scoffing a Chinese and feeling chubby and bad for letting DH down. We’d both been looking forward to a night out.

Feel like I should have pushed through it.

The chat and clothes pics are cheering me up though.

Ellapaella · 17/05/2019 22:12

I just googled South Pelion and it looks amazing. I'm not too good with heat and two of my DC are fair haired and ginger so we don't tend to go abroad much in the summer holidays but I'm looking for somewhere in Europe for next May half term.
We go to the same house in North Devon every summer holiday, it's a beautiful detached house with gardens and balcony over looking the beach. You can walk to the beach in 2 minutes. Like you Laska it's become 'our place' - the dc call it our holiday beach house 😁. We've been going there for years now and have already booked up for August 2020.
Having just done Rome I really would like to visit either Tuscany or Lake Garda next year. I just love Italy 🇮🇹

Ellapaella · 17/05/2019 22:13

Sorry to hear you're not feeling so good @Binkybix - but sometimes nothing is as good as staying at home in the PJ's with a takeaway and an early night. Hope you feel better soon.

GinandGingerBeer · 17/05/2019 22:16

Haha @soy that's brilliant my mum did a similar thing with my brother, she gave him a lift to the train station and they were in a rush as he was late getting up ( as per) she helped him on but the doors locked. Best bit was she'd left in such a rush she was in her slippers lol.
Ended up in cleethorpes GrinGrin

dontcallmelen · 17/05/2019 22:28

Oh poor you Gin glad you are home safe & G&T is looking very good.
Ella oh you poor thing, such a painful thing to have hope the antibiotics kick in very soon, I can thoroughly recommend lake Garda it’s great for kids & if you go in May/June the temperature is usually quite comfortable, been a couple of times to Malchesine also Tuscany & the Tuscan coast is stunning, Devon is lovely as well though.
Soups have a brilliant time, funnily enough Dh just showed me a pic of her statue such a brilliant woman sheer genius.
Laska Pelion sounds beautiful as well, I must explore Greece a bit more haven’t seen that much of it.
Talisin thank you will look them up shortly

Ellapaella · 17/05/2019 22:29

Ha ha just saw your story too @SoyYo😂 that's the kind of situation I have nightmares about!

dontcallmelen · 17/05/2019 22:29

binky aww poor you, hope you feel better very soon as well.

NotAnActualSheep · 17/05/2019 22:35

Oh no ella. That sounds grim. Hopefully the drugs will kick in soon.

soy whoops! That's a very funny story 🤣. I got on the wrong train once... Was going from Southampton to London (Waterloo) and was running late for the train, so got on the first one at the platform. Unfortunately it was going to Portsmouth rather than London. But because I was stubborn and didn't want to admit I'd got it wrong I didn't get off at the next stop and go back and try again... (was only me, so wasn't trying to save face or anything...so I have absolutely no idea why! Stubborn Taurean..) So I ended up going to London via brighton, and it took hours rather than about 80 min! I treated it as an adventure, and haven't ever been on that bit of train line since. (didn't have my slippers on though gin!)

Glad you've finally got home gin!

Thanks for the comments on the wren and sandals! Im definitely keeping the blue, as I've worn it out, but not sure I can keep both the green and sandals... No way are you fat laska... We're just really different shapes! You know I'm really jealous of your slim legs and hips... Even a stone and a bit above my ideal weight I've still got a really narrow back... and if I lost a bit around my waist I probably would be a "proper" 10 up top.

Thanks huff! Yes, it's the toast skirt (is ideal for this kind of weather)... It was the slight heel that attracted me to the sandals. I can't do totally flat. I have menorcan sandals that I can only wear a couple of hours as the are too flat, and lots of lovely sandals seem to be the same at the moment. They are reeeealy comfy. Really soft leather and slightly padded in the sole.

Sorry you're still feeling ill binky but yy, as ella says, sometimes you can't beat PJs and a takeaway...

Jealous of the Greek holiday... As we don't drive we are restricted to being in towns/cities on hol, where we can get around to sightsee by trains/buses. But I do fancy going somewhere really remote sometimes. It sounds idyllic.

Laska2Meryls · 17/05/2019 22:35

Pelion is a Big, Big Secret, only known to the Few . Ok?.., I have told you, but Do Not tell the Chianti/Tuscany Crew or they will all be there and ruin it....!

dontcallmelen · 17/05/2019 22:35

We have been going to Menorca for quite a few years now, always have a week in the summer & we now take dd,sil & dgd with us going in July this year, stay in a very small family run hotel right beside a beautiful cove one restaurant/bar & nothing else there & usually bump into the same people every year, I love to explore new places/experiences but I do enjoy the familiarity of Menorca & just the feeling of it being easy iykwim.

SoyYo · 17/05/2019 22:37

😬😬Grin
Hope you get some rest and feel better tomorrow Ella and Binky.
We arrived half hour ago and the festival tents are all set up on the lawns, it’s stopped raining too so fingers crossed for tomorrow being a good day for us all.
DH insisting we watch a Netflix movie now so, good night friends.

dontcallmelen · 17/05/2019 22:40

😂 at Soy & Not dd says that I shouldn’t be left out on my own I’m always getting lost/wrong train especially the Victoria line, quite often end up in Clapham or Wandsworth which is a completely different part of London to where I live.

NotAnActualSheep · 17/05/2019 22:47

ella yes, you must go to tuscany!!! We've only been once on our honeymoon to siena and Florence, but it's absolutely stunning! Plus the bonus of gougeous Italian food and wine... I'd love to go back (and we do keep returning to Italy) but tbh I'm not that well travelled and we both feel we "should" go somewhere new to explore, rather than go back to the same place. I am quite jealous of people who do have somewhere they consider a 2nd home, though. And also able to actually relax on hol rather than having to Do Things all the time.

dontcallmelen · 17/05/2019 22:55

Not yy Tuscany, we stayed a few times on the coast then travelled by train to Florence & Pisa so beautiful, another time we went to Luca & Sienna. Also travelled a fair bit in southern Italy Naples, Sorrento & the islands, I do love Italy the architecture & I dunno just the feeling of the place, I reckon I was Italian in another life.

ilovecherries · 17/05/2019 23:41

Ella, from home/home is about 3.5 hours. But from where we currently are in England, you can nearly double that. I do worry as they are 85, and touch wood as fit as fleas, but at that age, it all starts to become precarious. Plus there is only me left. We will bring them back tomorrow, then repeat it all next weekend. They love the change of scenery though, and just in the last year they’ve lost their confidence about travelling alone. My dad will need to be restrained from renovating the garden or building a new kitchen while they are with us. I just about had hysterics three weeks ago as he re-roofed their garage himself. Neither of them told me till it was over. I go to see them every six weeks, I’d like it to be more, but it’s just too far. DH is very kind though, and nearly always comes with me to share the driving. It’s been hard recently, as I came home several times when DD wasn’t well, and then we were back and forth because of her car accident, so we’ve done about 15000 miles this year already. Am knackered.

Thanks sheep both look really nice on you :)

neveradullmoment99 · 18/05/2019 09:02

cherries You have done loads of driving! It will be nice for you to have your mum and dad. They must appreciate you coming for them. Thats a lively thing for you to do. They sound like they have amazing energy though. I know what you mean about their ages being precarious. My mum is similar in age. I worry about her. Thankfully i live 10 mins drive. Luckily your parents have each other.

neveradullmoment99 · 18/05/2019 09:04

@sheep - the 10 is better. Both look good. We are sandals twins! I love mine. I had them the day before yesterday. They did rub a bit but I'm always like that with new shoes.
