Zara is killing it this SS!

I could have spent £1000 in Zara yesterday - I didn't, very restrained but everything was gorgeous and I never usually say that about Zara - can be very hit and miss. I'm worried I'm chanelling my old 20 something me as it's all cami bias cut slip dresses and Ghost style dresses and lovely baggy chambray trousers which remind me of Dash. And if I had a wedding to go to, which I don't, there are beautiful halterneck chiffon voluminous maxi dresses in vivid colours. Anyone else loving it?

That’s what I thought, that they don’t really use influencers. Probably because they have 24m followers on insta so have a fantastic reach already.

Oh of course there is shilling but I don’t believe by Zara.

grannieali · 05/05/2019 22:51

I am baffled by most of this. What is shilling and what are influencers and who could contemplate spending £1000 on clothes without the social life to go with them?

Floisme · 05/05/2019 23:06

I quite fancy being a Margaret Howell influencer. Anyone got any tips?

Or shall we just talk about clothes?

fancynancyclancy · 05/05/2019 23:20

shill

A person engaged in covert advertising. The shill attempts to spread buzz by personally endorsing the product in public forums with the pretense of sincerity, when in fact he is being paid for his services.
Who are you shilling for?

fancynancyclancy · 05/05/2019 23:21

Or shall we just talk about clothes?

Yes please, but apparently we can only have threads about specific brands. 🤷‍♀️

CountFosco · 05/05/2019 23:35

Grin Can I work for H&M? Reckon I'll find something to wear out of Arket, Cos, OtherStories and DD1 is keen on H&M itself so we could be a family of influencers. Pretty please marketing director!

Floisme · 05/05/2019 23:36

And only start threads about brands we don’t like. I mean have you all seen that thread praising M&S? Now that has got to be dodgy.

FoxSake · 05/05/2019 23:37

This thread is bonkers why has the OP got so many peoples back up? I love Zara mainly online for all the reasons people mention about Messy stores and ques but they’re shoes are fab. I have a few pairs from there that have lasted forever and look far more expensive than they were. I don’t get why people can’t just move along if the don’t like something. Next, per una, Boden, fat face they’ve all had much coverage on here over the years.

FoxSake · 05/05/2019 23:38

Don't worry FoxSake, my back isn't up - finding the whole thing amusing now.

My ad for the day.

I love these.

I love Zara but nothing you’ve listed. Their basic chinos for work the best ever stretch block heel boots in winter.
I’m finding it odd this season so far

NigellasGuest · 06/05/2019 10:18

As with any shop you have to BE SELECTIVE. No one dresses entirely from one two or three shops do they? I have one shirt from Next in my wardrobe and that's the only thing I have from Next. I have a fabulous white cotton tunic from Zara that looks amazing i think. As well as some fantastic boots.

Sb74 · 06/05/2019 10:33

I’ll bet you’ll be surprised... Im sure many people do dress from the same shops. Especially when you have kids and priorities change.

fancynancyclancy · 06/05/2019 10:38

Why does having kids make you more likely to buy all your clothes from one shop?

NigellasGuest · 06/05/2019 10:41

I have kids

matahairyy · 06/05/2019 11:49

that bag looks like you might pick it up at Tesco

JustCallMeSliths · 06/05/2019 12:17

When Oasis was good and online shopping less of a thing, I'd say 75% of my clothes were from there because they used to fit me perfectly at a time when I'd struggle in other local shops. It was hard work not looking like one of the mannequins!

So yes, I can see how some people have most clothes from one shop.

StellaRockafella · 06/05/2019 13:03

Zara's advertising spend is minimal - www.retailgazette.co.uk/blog/2019/01/how-does-zara-survive-despite-minimal-advertising/

Also, without wanting to be rude but if they were into advertising by stealth using online message boards and forums, I think they'd opt for something more fashion forward than Mumsnet!

I find Zara very hit and miss. They used to offer actual clothes sizes but now it's all XS, S, M and L which means things are less likely to fit properly. I've a few gems, mostly coats and accessories, footwear in particular - I have a pair of ankle boots that numerous women stop to ask me about every time I wear them!

Genuinely hadn't clicked that the Hush thread is adverting, so thanks for that! I've always wondered about the point of that thread given that the few times I've looked at it, and all it's done is make me shudder at the clothes as they're awful. Surely I can't be the only person that's been put off Hush as a result.

Sb74 · 06/05/2019 14:37

Everyone’s different but a lot of people don’t have the time to think so much about their wardrobe when they work full time and have school aged-kids so just do what’s easiest. I like to look nice but don’t put as much time into buying clothes as I did before I had children.

fancynancyclancy · 06/05/2019 14:42

I do what’s easiest too, never been one to spend ages getting ready or hours planning my look (except for Irish weddings) however I still shop in a number of shops. Zara, Topshop, Cos, Stories, H&M, M&S (only underwear), Russell & Bromley, The Outnet, Asos etc

Floisme · 06/05/2019 14:53

I've looked at the Hush thread occasionally and they talk about all kinds of brands and a lot of it is just general chat about clothes and life. I recognise at least a couple of the regular posters. It's no more just about Hush than the Vogue thread is just about the magasine or the Parisienne thread (in which I must declare an interest) is just about looking French.

Riverviews · 06/05/2019 15:26

I like Zara and I do find stuff in there every now and then. The one in Covent Garden, which is near my office, is quite empty all the time, so if I'm bored during lunch, I pop in.

The yellow dress would also be perfect for a Spanish wedding. Clearly we are much more like the Irish!

Sb74 · 06/05/2019 15:39

Good for you, Fancy.

Vivianebrezilletbrooks · 06/05/2019 15:47

@justcallmesliths
Next's clothing is very safe, I think that's what most people use it for, for a suit or jumper, I think the suits thing might be where they make most of their money. The stuff they had at Christmas was ok but it was actually quite expensive.

I'm thinking the OP is a shiller. Enjoy your payout then!

I'm very difficult to impress fashion wise, I get my jeans online from a French store as I find that UK jeans manufacturers tend to height discriminate, we're not all 5"8! Even the smallest length of jeans in M and S is too long on me and they're all the same rise.
Most of the UK high street has bored me for years since Jane Norman closed. I used to shop in France more where the fashion is better but then I do the vintage thing apart from the jeans and the odd thing. I still like Miss Selfridge since I was a teen but I rarely find anything in there now.

We do have a Bershka here but I wasn't impressed when i went in. They seem to be stuck between basics and 1999 and their pricing is all over the place,a blazer was £35 but jeans £49?!?!?!

As to Boden I did want one of their velvet jackets years ago but never got one. I knew a woman once who kitted her whole family out in it but her DH worked for them.
They sell that in John Lewis now, I thought it was mail order.
Dunno what Hush is though. I probably wouldn't be impressed if I did.
