Kimonos?

I’ve been seeing these in a few shops and have started to wonder if i could wear one without looking ridiculous, or like I’m wearing my PJs and dressing gown. I fancy a black sheer one wth a big flower print but it would have to be quite long, as I’m a pear and anything wafty that stops on my hips makes me look enormous.

Anyone embracing the kimono this spring/summer? Or are they just stupid?

And you're not short either, you're a whole 4 inches taller than me 😂

Hope mine arrives soon!

SilverHighlights · 13/04/2019 19:28

I’ve just caved and ordered the One Hundred Stars Holly Hock one after DH nagged me to treat myself. I got the long one (“boho”) though, I’ve got an hourglass shape and look enormous without being cinched in at the waist. I intend to wear it over leggings or jeans and a plain top.

ItchySeveredFoot · 13/04/2019 20:40

Thank you Grace it looks fantastic! I'm 5"3 so I think the length is ok

KitMarlowesPufflingPants · 13/04/2019 20:52

Ooh you buggers, I've ordered a One Hundred Stars kimono and a throwover after reading this thread. Will report back once I receive them.

Linwin · 14/04/2019 09:08

Here is mine, it’s the grey Kew Gardens one although has more green in it than I was expecting. It makes my top half look quite boxy in the photo but because it’s quite floaty it doesn’t in real life. Sorry I couldn’t be bothered to iron it for the photo Smile

That looks lovely Linwin! I'm toying with the same one in either green or grey the Throwover style from One Hundred Stars Has anyone tries this style? The short style would definitely not suit me as I need more length.

gettingtherequickly · 14/04/2019 18:10

I have one hundred stars Paris map, but it's definitely a dressing gown. It came with matching pjs.

gettingtherequickly · 14/04/2019 18:33

Sorry, not suggesting that the others aren't kimono's, just that mine isn't.

GraceMarks · 14/04/2019 18:41

There's a gift shop near where I live that has the Paris map one in the window. It's very clearly meant to be a posh dressing gown! I always look at it and imagine it being worn by a very glamorous 60s starlet with a messy updo who has a Bloody Mary and a fag for breakfast. The shorter ones have a lot more structure around the edges and cuffs.

gettingtherequickly · 14/04/2019 18:46

That's perfect, I like to think of myself as a 60s starlet. (I'm a million miles away, but I dream of wafting perfection).

Alabasterangel6 · 14/04/2019 23:44

One hundred stars sell dressing gowns,
Kimonos and long kimonos in the same prints. The dressing gowns have a collar bit. Definitely different items altogether!!!

BobbilyBoo · 15/04/2019 02:41

I never knew I wanted a Kimono so much... just ordered a short 'Moorish Green' from One Hundred Stars!

legolimb · 16/04/2019 14:54

i am now eyeing up kimonos.

In most images though the footwear of choice seems to be quite glam. i.e. heels. I prefer birkenstocks or trainers.. Would they look odd?

EngagedAgain · 16/04/2019 16:15

I was watching Emmerdale last night and Leyla had a kimono on. Looked quite formal though. I love kimonos but it would have to be a toned down version for me to wear one out. I saw a nice short version in New Look a couple of years ago. Would have be very wearable on a nice day or going out.

EngagedAgain · 16/04/2019 16:19

Lego, I don't know, I'm no expert in fashion, but they are probably ok if teamed up with the right style and colour kimono and trousers. As long as the whole outfit works together.

YouJustDoYou · 16/04/2019 16:22

If you want proper ones there's a couple of excellent Japanese based stores on eBay- sou_japan, nakashima100, kimono-bestbuy

YouJustDoYou · 16/04/2019 16:23

And kimonopetitjapon. Their shipping is cheap too.

mogtheexcellent · 17/04/2019 20:52

Well my kimono turned up. No pics as my phone is lost so on laptop. I'm an 18 and 5 ft 4 and the shortest bit at the front is about 2 inches below my belly button and the llonger bit at the back is at the top of my bum. I have quite a small bum but large belly so it looks fine.

However I couldn't decide on colour and I noticed the longer one is in the sale section so I may buy that but not use the waist tie.

mogtheexcellent · 17/04/2019 20:53

As well as keeping the short one. Am buying a couple of scarves for presents as well!

Chilledout11 · 17/04/2019 21:04

I got some in ... looks around ... Primark last year and they are lovely. So easy to throw on

legolimb · 18/04/2019 12:08

I quite like this from H & M

In beige or black.

I am thinking black would be more useful?

Going back to look at seller's other items!

pazwaz70 · 19/04/2019 20:53

I love kimonos, wear them all the time over skinny jeans & camisole vest. Just bought a gorgeous green one from ASOS.

BestIsWest · 19/04/2019 20:55

Thank you for the 100stars link. I have one of their map scarves which I love. Their kimonos are gorgeous.
