Previous thread.

And let's stick to critiquing the outfits rather than the wearer!

Oh - the 4th baby thing? I think not. No particular reason, but my bet goes in the 'no' box.

FlyMayBaubles · 26/12/2018 13:26

Checking in to the lovely fluffy new thread.

Loved most of the outfits yesterday, with the exception of B and E. B's badly-fitting garment looked like a retro nurse uniform, and the fabric looked a bit cheap thin. Poor Viscount Severn looked frozen and in need of a coat. The duchesses both looked fab. I'm sure DoS must have been given loads of freebie jewellery etc over the years. If she did buy it herself - as most of her ££ was earned in Canada and USA, why wouldn't she spend it there? I wonder how many on our thread insist on purchasing exclusively British-made goods?
I'm wondering if some of the glum faces are due to worrying about the health of DoE? Sad

UrsulaPandress · 26/12/2018 13:29

Mike Tindall always looks completely out of place on the sartorial front.

FlyMayBaubles · 26/12/2018 13:29

Regarding the conservative clothing choices - the royals will be conscious that their outfits will still be scrutinised for hundreds of years. I wouldn't want to be remembered for any major fashion mistakes either Grin

UrsulaPandress · 26/12/2018 13:29

But the RF are different as they are paid for from the public purse.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 26/12/2018 13:33

I liked the idea of Autumn's coat but thought it fit really badly. It's examples like this that you realise how tailored Kate's clothes are. Maybe that's her vice - Meghan has her gold, Kate has an epic tailor's bill Grin

beanaseireann · 26/12/2018 13:41

Moononthehill
Anne doesn't need to spend money on jewellery. She can just raid 'Mummy's Jewellery Box' and I'm sure she inherited from Granny- QEQM.
Compared with that jewellery, Megan's will be mere trinkets. Smile

queenofarles · 26/12/2018 13:43

My best royal looks of the year are:

My style crush
Beatrice in Armani :

She looks retro and contemporary at the same time , very elegant, and boy does she know it!

  • DoC in that gorgeous Alexander Mqueen dress she wore to Eugenie's wedding. Probably her most beautiful look so far. Flawless
  • DoC Erdem dress.

-DoS in that Givenchy one shoulder

PH is a millionaire in his own right due to inheritance from his mum. DoS is also a millionaire from her own earnings. I believe they're also funded by the Duchy of Cornwall.

StellaRockafella · 26/12/2018 13:47

Long time lurker on these threads just popping in to say how much I'm enjoying them - thank you!

I absolutely adore the DoC's natty new headwear, the cream one she wore for Prince Louis' christening is probably my very favourite of all the things she's worn. I do hope she continues with this style of headwear. I also loved the Jenny Packham evening gown she wore recently, the one covered in hundreds of brilliants.

As for DoS, the Fijian blue caped gown she wore during her tour with PH was stunning, and easily my favourite of all her outfits so far. I do look forward to see how her style progresses and how long it takes her to find her look, something DoC has very much found this past year.

I do think the PoW loves clothes and very much takes after his uncle the DoW in this respect. I do hope this gene kicks in for both PW and PH!

Anyway lovely people on this thread, do please keep contributing and posting, and I'll continue reading!

queenofarles · 26/12/2018 13:47

not a fan of MM small jewellery , they honestly look like cheap stuff you can find on the high street. Not worth the £££££.

PawneeParksDept · 26/12/2018 13:54

Did anyone see the video of some well wisher screaming PRINCESS ZARA at Zara and Mike and them trying not to laugh?

For the married ins it must be particularly bizarre, for random strangers to line up in the cold to watch you go to church with your Nan

I thought it sweet that the Philips Sisters each took a bouquet

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/12/2018 14:16

Compared with (Queen's / Queen Mother's) jewellery, Megan's will be mere trinkets

But that's just the point: surely she'd be allowed to borrow from those particular hauls if she wanted to? Granted some of it's old fashioned but certainly not all, and what she's wearing now looks like the difference between Claire's Accessories and Cartier

Personally I can't express what I'd give for just half an hour's play in that royal jewel vault ... please ma'am, pretty please? Grin

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/12/2018 14:34

I think given her position, Kate really does not have access to that much fancy jewelry. She wears the Cambridge lover's drop tiara and sometimes the lotus flower.
I have started seeing her in a few pieces of the QM.
William has bought her some nice pieces; as have her parents, and she has worn some of Diana's jewellery, usually reworked earrings.

Diana herself didn't have that much jewelry; it seemed like more as she always wore a tiara, like most people pop on a hat, but it was only her own Spencer tiara or the Cambridge lover's knot. She also famously wore a lot of costume jewellery from Butler and Wilson.
I would love to know what has happened to her Aquamarines. Perhaps, as well as the ring, we will slowly see them appearing on meghan.

Camilla has the most fantastic bling; She wears all of the QM jewellry, The Delhi Durbar and the Greville tiara. Ropes of diamonds and she has been gifted lots of jewels from the ME. I think Prince Charles buys her a lot.

Poor old sophie has very little in the way of impressive jewellery. Her Wedding tiara was not the prettiest. I hope when she becomes Duchess of Edinburgh, they crack open the jewellry vaults for her.

I'm sure we haven't seen the full extent of Queen Mary's jewellery being worn,

Clionba · 26/12/2018 14:39

Itsnice - me too! I really disliked the Erdem tweed dress on Kate. I don't like tweed generally, and hate frayed clothing. I thought it looked terrible. Otherwise good clothes post Louis.
I read that Meghan's dress at the RAF anniversary event was custom made Dior and cost £24k. That must be an error, surely? Anybody ordered custom Dior recently?!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/12/2018 14:44

Couture clothes can cost that much. Dont forget she wore a £fifty six thousand pound engagement dress and the wedding dress was £400k.
The givenchy outfits, eg the white dress to ascot was around £8k so I can (sadly) beleive she spent that much on Dior Couture.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/12/2018 14:49

I don't think the cost of the Dior would ever be revealed if it was couture.

The Magnificent Queen Mary and her mouthwatering jewellry

Royal style and gossip: new year, new thread
Clionba · 26/12/2018 14:57

Maybe the person calculated the cost, she used to work for a couturier.
Some of Diana's jewellery has been remodelled for Kate, maybe Meghan too?

Paradyning · 26/12/2018 15:35

I found her tweed erdem to be a tad too long to be perfect and the mismatch, engagement ring matching buttons were a bit odd. ( I am being picky). Kate looked lovely in the fishies wedding outfit and the Remembrance Day uniform but other than the JO repeat it's all a no for me. I not really a super fan of her style though. I know I'm in the minority in here.

Meghan in the other hand. I love just about all her choices.

Spudlet · 26/12/2018 15:42

My favourite Kate outfits are always her CasualKate(tm) outfits Blush I liked her jeans with the Penelope Chilvers boots and Fjallraven sweater that she wore for that children's forest schooly thing she visited. Am still hoping to get a similar pair of boots for myself at some point!

Moononthehill28 · 26/12/2018 15:52

MM a millionaire on the proceeds of Suits? Surely not!

queenofarles · 26/12/2018 16:19

Dior couture prices are never revealed or fixed, prices go up or down and are calculated after initial appointment , my guess that Dior dress is probably 40k,
my wedding dress was Christian Lacroix and the first price was so high my mother asked if the Viel could be shorter to lower the cost.

WindyWednesday · 26/12/2018 16:24

I don’t think DoC will have any more children. Something has changed since the birth of Louis. I think she is very driven and will be taking on more royal work from now on.
