Previous thread.

And let's stick to critiquing the outfits rather than the wearer!

Meghan's engagement dress was £59k?!
Really? I suppose it was hand embroidered. Those engagement pictures never looked quite right, I think the bodice was a bit transparent, she was always walking and sitting to conceal the top bit. Very strange.

itswinetime · 26/12/2018 16:45

WindyWednesday. I agree there has been a change i William and Kate since Louis I can't see anymore babies in the near future anyway.

All my favourite Kate Meghan outfits have been covered now

Meghan the Oscar de la renta gown, the green blouse and top and the fashion award dress are top three.

Kate I hate the coat dress so it's tricky but it was Remembrance Sunday jacket. The Jenny Packman re wear and I liked the tartan Christmas skirt anything that is a bit different for me.

So I'm off to look at the European royals outfits of the rest as I'm quite enjoying this review of the year.

Haggisfish · 26/12/2018 16:57

Loving the thread!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/12/2018 17:06

Fantastic link about Queen Mary, Curly ... the lady certainly didn't believe in less is more Grin

Our own Queen doesn't load on the gems, but her mum did; there's a wonderful bit of film of her leaving the abbey after HM's coronation where she's simply dripping in the things. I know I should think of higher-minded things when watching it, but all I can see is the blaze of diamonds Blush

This is where Sophie gets a lot of her day to day jewellery:
heavenlynecklaces.com

Kate has a pair of drop CZ and pearl earrings too.

They have absolutely gorgeous stuff, all paste, all affordable, very hard to tell from the real stuff.

Unless you're unfortunate enough to have blogs dedicated to finding it all out!

I've always really loved Sophie wearing it though. So relatable.

WindyWednesday · 26/12/2018 17:40

Love that heavenly website. Wow.

Actually I know many people who have paste copies made of their jewellery and keep the real ones in the bank safe.

Parker231 · 26/12/2018 17:46

I think Lady Chatto (and her bridesmaids) wins hands down for the most beautiful bride and dress.

Since the subject of personal interaction with the royals is of great interest at the mo i'll repeat my DM's experiences. She worked as a florist regularly going to BP for the the queen and Clarence House for the queen mum.

She recalls that you always knew when HM was nearby in BP because corgis began to appear. They would precede her through the rooms and corridors. They were not to be touched (and used to occasionally pee up the big urns and vases the florists were filling). The queen herself would be about her business and you'd see her but you were expected to just get on with your own affairs and if she did not address you then you weren't to address her (obviously).

The queen mum was much more chatty. On a couple of occasions she spoke with DM when she was working in the same room. QM would ask about the flowers and make kind small talk. One time she observed DM's cold red hands and offered her a nice cup of tea saying it was high time anyway. Not waiting for a reply she instructed a butler to bring a tray. He did, and bought tea for two. It was set down and poured out at a little table nearby. Beautiful bone china. DM accepted (and it was lovely) but she stood to have her tea and her hands were shaking. She rattled the tea cup quite badly Grin

For Princess Margaret's wedding in Westminster Abby DM prepared some of the sprays for the pew ends. They went to attach them on the morning of one of the rehearsals for the big day. All the young bridesmaids arrived and were playing about in the Abby. She chatted with Princess Anne (aged about 9 or 10), and Anne was complaining that her tights were twisted at the ankle and as mum was down there on the floor anyway she helped her untwist them Grin

WindyWednesday · 26/12/2018 17:53

That’s a lovely memory. Thank you. My DM always says you can tell a true “Lady” by the way she treats her staff.

That Heavenly Necklaces site Shock

Bookmarked! :)

Laiste · 26/12/2018 17:56

Windy yes. Yes i agree.

Class is not about money - it's about manners.

IdaBWells · 26/12/2018 18:01

I think Catherine's Erdem dress is very Marmite. I like it and I like that it was a real surprise from her. I can understand why people wouldn't like it. I hope she is more and more adventurous with her clothing whole staying within her parameters but a great designer can also work within constraints.

I also absolutely loved Catherine's raspberry coloured McQueen dress when she was a guest at E & J's wedding. There were so many beautiful colours at that wedding on the guests and in the flowers. She looked so comfortable and confident and it was great to see a mum of three still pulling out the fashion big guns. Obviously she is immensely privileged to do so but I am still glad she can pull it off so well.

I also loved Meghan's blue Fiji dress as I love clear blues. I personally loved both the colour and style. I am shocked that her wedding dress cost 400k, is that correct? I must be very naive if that is the case.

Can we have some categories such as favourite hat/headgear and favourite accessory for 2018? Also favourite outfit from HMQ?

Thanks for all the pictures it's fun to remember all the great outfits from the past year.

PM's dress was rather lovely actually.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/12/2018 18:11

It was a beautiful and timeless dress. Serena Snowden's wedding dress was a homage to it too.

The Danes have been attending Christmas services. Queen Margarethe continues to win at life and who can tell the difference between Mary and Marie?

DontCallMeCharlotte · 26/12/2018 18:19

Just watched the coronation procession link. The attendants' dresses were exquisite weren't they? And I never realised before that they had sparkle. Lovely.

Laiste · 26/12/2018 18:23

I've gone down a complete Princess Margarete rabbit hole on pinterest now! Some of these dresses are divine

Laiste you can see how Lady Louise resembles her Aunt Anne in that photo too

beanaseireann · 26/12/2018 18:32

Thanks Elspeth re the Heavenly necklaces site.
Doesn't Edward gift Sophie real jewellery ?
What's her engagement ring like?
Does Kate have a nice ring from William for her right hand ? I'm sure she got lovely jewellery gifts to mark the births of her children.
The QM dripping in diamonds. Smile
She was quite dumpy and plain for a Duchess not to mind being a queen.

YearOfYouRemember · 26/12/2018 18:41

This is the third time I've tried to post. MNHQ please sort out the sloooow reaction to my typing and the ridiculous auto correcting and deleting.

It is a few years since I've seen Catherine wear this necklace but I really liked it. Expensive though.

£49k
