Previous thread.

And let's stick to critiquing the outfits rather than the wearer!

Ernst of Hanover left his wife and married Princess Caroline. I don't think they are still together now though, are they ?
Prince Joachim's second wife Marie looks very like Crown Princess Mary, doesn't she ?

Hope this helps Clionba and Mother of Pearl Wink

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/01/2019 19:34

@beanaseireann is correct! Caroline and Ernst are reportedly estranged but she won't divorce him as it'll mean going from a Royal Highness to merely a Serene one.

Love Mary's silver dress. It is a really nice shape.

SenecaFalls · 03/01/2019 19:43

I think it is a bit odd to prefer being a Royal Highness of a pretend monarchy than a Serene Highness of an actual one.

MotherofPearl · 03/01/2019 19:45

Thanks @beanaseireann! Mary and Marie look so alike! I'm fairly new to following the European royals, so hadn't realised just how similar they are, though that makes sense of the comment someone made upthread when looking at the photos of the Danish RF NY celebration.

beanaseireann · 03/01/2019 19:45

Oh Seneca Smile

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 03/01/2019 19:49

They have birthdays one day apart too, although Mary is a few years older than Marie...

PandasAreCuteAnimals · 03/01/2019 19:54

Queen I love those AIBUs 😂

Another thread almost full

Clionba · 03/01/2019 20:25

Thank you for that, folks!
The Prince of Hanover is most certainly not Prince Charming....

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/01/2019 20:34

@Clionba He tried to disinherit one son and got so drunk at the other's wedding that he was put in an induced coma to recover. Thank god women can inherit the throne in Britain or he'd be our king!

OP posts:
DontCallMeCharlotte · 03/01/2019 20:38

Queen those AIBUs are inspired!

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 03/01/2019 20:40

I think if Ernst was our king we’d have soon become a republic!

Inspired AIBU!

Clionba · 03/01/2019 20:45

Wasn't Ernst also caught urinating on some important monument?

Clionba · 03/01/2019 20:47

... Actually it was the Turkish pavilion at Expo 2000, causing a major diplomatic incident Confused

Lomondstripe · 03/01/2019 21:03

Came on to mention the Charlotte engagement call-off news - very sad given the baby is only 4 months old but can’t imagine any decision like that would be taken lightly? Irrelevant really in the grand scheme of things but I think Charlotte is really stylish, especially in all her equestrian gear.

VamillaSugar · 03/01/2019 21:16

Ernst of Hanover could be our King ... a PP on a previous thread questioned the legitimacy of Queen Victoria as Heamophilia sprung out of “nowhere”.

Paradyning · 03/01/2019 22:16

Caroline of Hanover at a guess

Paradyning · 03/01/2019 22:17

Sorry. Late to the party.

IClavdivs · 03/01/2019 22:30

@HolgerLowCarbingLoser & @LadyCassandra: That's interesting that a similar thing was done for the first dance here in Australia. As I said, I don't know if it still a custom.

I had always assumed it was a British thing, but obviously not. Is/Was it ever an Irish thing? Lots of customs once followed in Australia originated from there.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 03/01/2019 23:35

Was confused by mention of CP Mary’s silver dress.
They were at a reception today. Dress seen with & without jacket.
Queen Margarethe looks a bit odd; like she’s kept her coat on and pinned some medals to the front....Confused

Going back a few posts to the unlucky Kennedy and Grimaldi families - i suspect some of that comes from being high status risk takers. Not many families are targets of assassination, fly private planes, speed boat race etc. Mostly not victim of mundane run of the mill deaths (though obviously no less tragic for them personally)

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/01/2019 03:02

There is talk that Meghan could be having the baby at Frimley Park in Surrey where Sophie had her 2 children.
So they do have a precedent (for a royal birth).
I know it’s the Sun but they did break the Frogmore Story.

Sophie opening the neonatal unit in 2014 DM link.

Sophie’s delivery; Wessex Family life DM 2014 article. ( The dm appear to be a lot less bitchy 4 years ago)

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/01/2019 03:09

Lady Louise christening. She was the last to wear the Honiton original christening robe.

I hope Meghan can find a friend in Sophie. She is a good safe pair of hands, has older children, so a bit more time and will not be too far away. If Meghan is considering Frimley; then she probably had a chance to have a good chat with Sophie over Xmas at Sandringham.

CP Mary looks like she's had the original dress altered with a new tip added. Not sure I like the colour on her. She's like Kate in that those cool silver tones don't suit her colouring.

iloveredwine · 04/01/2019 07:24

my children were born at Frimley Park. It's a great hospital. Quite a distance from Windsor though I would hope there was a closer one if she goes into labour quickly!
