Previous thread.

And let's stick to critiquing the outfits rather than the wearer!

What does Fergie do?

Well, one year she went to Thailand to find herself and filmed it for Oprah.

It is sad though I agree, and particularly bad when her DDs were small

This could be the last time she's on the outs though if various stories are to be believed

CoverYourEarsTeam · 26/12/2018 11:22

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/12/2018 11:28

Sadly, I have to agree about the amount of jewellery Meghan seems to be acquiring; it looks a bit surprising compared with Kate's much more modest choices

I know it's probably not going to happen, but I also wish she'd choose a bit of colour to wear ... it's all excellent stuff of course, but the constant drab shades are just so dreary (to me)

IdaBWells · 26/12/2018 11:31

In the footage of Eugenie walking with Jack today she walks just like her mum same gait Smile

ElspethFlashman · 26/12/2018 11:34

According to Megan's Mirror, so far she's worn:

12 necklaces
36 rings
38 pairs of earrings
24 bracelets.

When each one is upwards of 1000, that's why I'm uncomfortable!

Clionba · 26/12/2018 11:37

Fergie may well be at the mansion chalet in Verbier. She owns it with Andrew. Or with some of her celeb friends.

TheDistantSky · 26/12/2018 11:42

But don't forget she had her own money before and probably plenty of jewellery too. She's 37, with a definite chosen style.

I'm two years younger and have worn the same style of jewellery for over ten years. My favourite pieces are ones I bought years ago and I know they suit me.

I should imagine that she's had a lot of her jewellery for some time, it's just she wasn't photographed every time she left the house before!

ElspethFlashman · 26/12/2018 11:51

Oh I'm sure not all of it is new, but my cynical side whispers that many were PR gifts once the tabloids realised who she was dating. She has half the catalogue of Birks, for example. It's been amazing publicity for them.

I presume you can accept freebies right up until the moment you say your vows.

Either that or she has spent 100,000+ on tiny pointlessness, which is ludicrous no matter whose money it is. (And one could argue her Suits money - which was always Gross rather than Net anyway - is family money now)

Parker231 · 26/12/2018 12:00

Good to start the day reading about Royal fashions rather than Brexit and Trump!

Clankboing · 26/12/2018 12:07

My favourite outfit was the Jenny Packham dress that Kate wore. I hope that the royals repeat wear many of their clothes - I know some do - but in this Brexit atmostphere it would be sensitive to do so. I don't think K&W will have anymore babies. She has produced 3 with HG and looks relieved lol as if completed her task!

Due to this thread by the way I am now reading 'The Mystery of Princess Louise'! Great book - Queen Victoria (her mother) doesn't particularly come out looking positive in it. Incidentally Louise lived at Kensington into her 90s and Elizabeth and Margaret can remember her.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/12/2018 12:09

That is a lot of jewellery but it could be pieces Meghan already owned. I don't really wear costume jewellery, only the real stuff, and I've had most of it for years. I have a pair of sapphire earrings that my parents bought for me when I was a baby, and I've inherited pieces from my grandmothers too.

What's interesting about her jewellery is that a lot of it seems to be from small ethical/sustainable jewellers, and it's nice that smaller brands get some exposure.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/12/2018 12:16

@Clankboing What is the mystery around Louise? I've heard rumours of an illicit love affair and secret child. Seems unlikely but it was certainly easier to hide those sorts of things back then. And apparently her husband was gay? Or am I thinking of Princess Mary's husband?

What are Sophie's Heavenly what's it fakes ???

Parker231 · 26/12/2018 12:40

Madeleine always gets it right although would be good to see her in brighter colours more often like Max wears.

There's a lovely programme on BBC2 at the moment about Victoria & Albert's wedding. Some lovely bits in the Kensington clothing archives.

ItsNice I've recorded that and will watch it when I get an empty house! I went to the Young Victoria exhibition at KP this summer. The jewellery was stunning.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 26/12/2018 12:48

Favourite outfits...

Not to everyone's taste but I loved Kate's tartan skirt look recently. I thought it was a bit different for her and I'm also a fan of a long skirt with boots. Also her outfit for Eugenie's wedding, absolutely gorgeous colour.

Meghan, I loved the blue caped evening gown from the tour, although would have liked it even more in a different colour. Beautiful, beautiful silhouette though.

Am sort of loving the thought of Meghan the Magpie Grin. I imagine I would have similar issues restraining myself though I do think pp have a point that it's not ideal. She has stunning taste in jewellery I must say!

She wouldn't have had the money not on her Suits wage for that level of jewellery

I think Elspeth has it that when she was known to be dating Harry and yet still on social media, various companies fell over themselves to give her things, see also her "lifestyle blog"

It will have stopped now but I bet she has masses of high end products of every type

It probably stopped when she got engaged

Lomondstripe · 26/12/2018 12:52

@CurlyWurlyTwirly re royal visits from previous thread, I can’t be open about how they came about as the connection is too outing but in all honesty there’s not an awful lot to say - in my lifetime HM and DofE have only been in an official walkabout capacity I believe (they were on holiday) but were very nice. The others visiting as friends never anything but polite and enjoyable to have as guests to work for - always very interested, never patronising or condescending, happy to muck in, kids running round normally. Nothing salacious to say I’m afraid!

Re outfits I’ve just bought my wedding dress and one of my thoughts at the time was how difficult that decision must be for royals. Every stitch and detail so considered. I did try on the Jenny Packham wedding dress that Kate has worn in turquoise and realised that would be the most expensive dress I ever wear and that’s just the general standard of craftsmanship etc for the Royals - must be a huge ‘perk’ of a difficult job! Also considered a Stella-esque halter but was not for me and my swimmers shoulders sadly...

Kate’s Erdem tweed was just head and shoulders above any other outfits of hers or anyone else’s for me, absolute perfection.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 26/12/2018 12:59

I think I was pretty much the only person who didn't like the tweed Erdem!

OlennasWimple · 26/12/2018 13:00

I hope we see the full gown that Kate wore to Charles' birthday party one day - it looked spectacular from the glimpses we got

Autumn's hi/lo hem coat was lovely but a shade too long at the back

I prefer Meghan's hat style to Kate's head band penchant

Moononthehill28 · 26/12/2018 13:06

I think the amount MM spends on clothes and jewellery is absolutely ridiculous. I’m sorry, but other members of the family, like Anne, do not spend thousands and thousands on clothes and jewellery every year. She may have some money if her own, but no way is it going to be the sort of amount that props up her spending. In year one!
I find it really distasteful.
I don’t think Kate will have another baby. She has the look of ‘thank God all that’s over now’ about her to me!! I think she is now very much stepping into the role of future Queen, and doing it amazingly well.

Laiste · 26/12/2018 13:08

Just been reading the twitter comments linked above on the queen speech. Most of it was predictable. Some of it witty. The gold piano and lavish surroundings has caused outrage. The 'weighed down with gilt' comment did make me smile.

As pp have said, I believe Kate is now firmly dressing for her position and for posterity. And i think it will stay this way. Meghan will always be in the position of being more free to play with fashion and run with that risk of getting it horribly wrong in the pursuit of eye catchingly wow 'getting it right' outfits. Being the no.2 wife (of the no.2 brother, iyswim) must occasionally be a bit exasperating, but it gives you more freedom.

Kate's role weighs a little heavier. To me her approach to her image now shows how seriously and respectfully she is taking her role, and she is mindful of how history will remember her 'before she was queen'. Personally I think this extends to her weight too. Being very slim shows discipline and commitment, and this, for someone with the great wealth of the RF, protects against an image of self indulgent revelry.

I think she looks fantastic. Polished, beautifully groomed and respectful. It's how i'd want to look in her position.

BigGreenOlives · 26/12/2018 13:09

I’m enjoying the Queen Victoria programme too, lots of lovely detail. Perfect post Xmas treadmill watching.
