Morning all! Come and join the gorgeously-scented chat!

Today I smell of lavender, woodsmoke and cinnamon biscuits, in Another Kiss By The Fireside.

Let's just say we had a £50 drinks allowance
Cocktails were £7 and BOGOF
I'm not doing the maths Grin

Lotsofpots · 16/12/2018 16:17

I want a night out with Ollivander

Love the review today teta, you write about perfume so beautifully.

SOTD is 4160 a Who Knew

Sneaks in ... I’ve been a lurker on this thread but after a magical hour in John Lewis this afternoon sniffing recommendations, I’d like to apply for Perfumista Membership (Novice) please 😂

You’re all so fabulous and knowledgable - obvs I’ve been buying perfumes for years and as as ex cabin crew I was unable to go through a Duty Free Shop without buying one - it’s compulsory non? But I love how you explain the top notes and the base and the sillage and ALL THE THINGS.

SOTD was Hermès Elixir de Mervielles, but now it’s a mix of many - my favourites today were Givenchy L’Interdit and Guerlain Terracotta. I’ve caved in and bought the L’Interdit. It’s lovely - I think it’s the tuberose maybe? Also a big fan of Hermès Twilly, also tuberose?

What else can I try based on those that I like?

Hello, I'm just popping in to ask if any of you know about the Marais-based Parisian perfumer "Etat Libre d'Orange"? I've been wearing his perfume (5 different ones now) for three years. I'm just going to give you the link to his perfumes. You'll find that every one is inspired by a story and some have been created with writers, artists. You'll find the bottles very simple. The idea is that minimum cost is spent on the packaging and maximum on the perfumes.

They really are divine.

If anyone else knows about Etat Libre d'Orange, I'd love to know what you think?

gettingstherehopefully · 16/12/2018 18:33

ps I bought my eldest daughter "Like This"; a perfume designed with and for Tilda Swinton. To my mind it's Autumn in a bottle.

Ooh thanks for the warm welcome Mrsr8, and for your suggestions - I used to wear Rive Gauche back in the day. Was v popular on board in the 80’s along with Youth Dew and Poison, the plane smelled like a brothel by the time we got off - but the commission was good!

I like the sound of the 4160 Tuesdays - what d’you recommend based on what I like?

Thanks Mrsr8, you’re a star! Will add to my Sniff List Grin

Hello lovely Perfumistas. Have made a lot of progress in the house this weekend and am belatedly boiling my Christmas pudding while the children fight over the Christmas tree decorations. So far so traditional...

Lovely to read the second wave of calendar reviews. Keep them coming!

Thanks for the news on PP Calm - their ebay shop is still taking order so I have chanced my arm. Glad you liked Scandal - there is a great Barbara Herman review I think?

Welcome Nell - that's quite a background. Ideal Perfumista credentials. Grin Tubereuse isn't really my thing, but you might like Noix de Tubereuse, Miller Harris (and they sell it in 9mls bottles). Did you try Bella Freud's Close to my Heart? (It's on the front of a magazine at the moment;).

Getting - you'll have to tell us about the five ELd'Os you like?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/12/2018 21:05

SOTD Clinique Wrappings. I can’t smell or taste anything, and my entire face appears to be flaking off. Help me!

getting I did a sample set of ELDO a few years ago, I think it was about £25 for about 25 samples. I bought a full bottle of Jasmin et Cigarette, but there were a few I liked - from memory Afternoon of a Faun, Noel et Balcon, and Like This. I had to put Secretions Magnifique in the outside bin as it was so vile.

Calmanddance · 16/12/2018 21:38

Hello Nell and welcome! L’Artisan Parfumeur’s Nuit de Tubereuse is beautiful. It is a dry, spicy tuberose, like walking alongside a dusty track in a hot country, surrounded by night-scented white flowers. Also you might like Elizabeth Taylor’s Emeralds and Diamonds. To me this smells like peaches and white flowers, with a tuberose note.

If you like Guerlain Terracotta, you might enjoy Annick Goutal Songes (the larger John Lewis branches should have this). This is a romantic white flowers mix, not too heady.

4160Tuesdays Sleep Knot is a delightful floral perfume. It has a heady depth to it which you might enjoy. You can get samples from 4160Tuesdays here

I’m enjoying the advent perfume reviews!

HumourlessFeminist · 16/12/2018 22:16

Hi, I'm new on this thread - I just wondered whether anyone else has 4160Tuesdays January Box of Joy with 30x perfumes in it? I'm having it now as an advent calendar 💛.

UnnecessaryFennel · 16/12/2018 22:18

Evening all. SOTE is Creamy Vanilla Crumble. I am starting to think that I really could whittle my collection down to this, a couple of Tauers and maybe Philosykos, and be pretty happy. Well, maybe not Grin

Welcome nell. How about 24 Faubourg if you like Hermes? No tuberose but a fabulously grown-up white floral all the same - it's divine. And of course - Fracas is a must for any tuberose lover!

getting - I have a couple of ELd'Os knocking around - Afternoon of a Faun, Like This, Noel au Balcon, You Or Someone Like You. I've enjoyed Rossy de Palma as well...although not sure I could say the same for Secretions Magnifiques. What are your 5?

Joy box you say...,,.
Am I the only one picturing a box of forbidden delights of the alternative sort.
Definitely not perfumes.
Although the Secretions Magnifique & Box will go well together.
I dropped my sample of Secretions on my bathroom floor many years ago. This was at the beginning of my perfume journey. I was so disgusted I sent off my Eldo sample set to someone else without trying the rest.

CountFosco · 16/12/2018 22:51

I've had a few ELDOs in my Bloom subscription. My favourite is Archive 69, really need to get a FB. Also liked You or Someone Like You. Not fussed about Like This or SM (which just smelt a bit fishy to me, didn't hate it as much as some people do).

MrsLucas · 17/12/2018 01:01

Welcome Humourless. Not this year. Are you a 4160Tuesdays fan? You'll have to give us daily updatesSmile.
