Morning all! Come and join the gorgeously-scented chat!

Today I smell of lavender, woodsmoke and cinnamon biscuits, in Another Kiss By The Fireside.

MrsL your cat is an honorary Perfumista!

Wolves I am sorry I took you back to Smirnoff Ice era Grin Does anyone remember Hooch? I saw the other day they are still selling it

The PP Tobacco Vanille went full on Vicks for me. It's a shame as I like the original but I think there was a note in the PP one that didn't suit me.

I have a confession for my advent calendar review today Blushthat I was so excited when this one arrived that I tried it straightaway even before December started I am very impatient though Smile I'm glad I can "legally" wear it today Grin

Hello fragrant ones - just popping in to share today's Sali Hughes Guardian column in case you hadn't seen it:

The best nutty fragrances

www.theguardian.com/fashion/2018/dec/22/the-best-nutty-fragrances?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Copy_to_clipboard

It reminded me that I had an un tried sample of L'eau d'Hiver so it is now SITD and I'm very much enjoying it. Apart from that have been stuck in a bit of a perfume right - mostly switching between Next Eau Nude, London 1969 and Rome 1963.

Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas and Santa brings plenty of smelly goodness Xmas Grin

Also if any one likes Clinique Happy I've got a small bottle (think 15 or 20ml) going spare. Got it as a freebie in a bargain gift set I bought for myself when Christmas shopping but it's not for me. Happy to pass on.

I loved today's advent review floofy

I'll be sad when Christmas arrives as I've so enjoyed the advent calendar.

Floof - that's a truimph! Those orange and lemon slices look so fantastic when you click on the window. Smile I have a sample of Malabar somewhere that I need to dig out!

The PP take on Tobacco Vanille just seems to need to be applied an hour ahead of time on my skin. The PP Samsara is a bit the same Mrsr8 - initially it smells a bit like furniture polish, but it's gorgeous after it's warmed up.

This does make me wonder about the sequencing of the scents and the limits of replicating stuff using analysis from gas chromatography? Do you think if some notes are being swapped out with similar smelling (but cheaper?) molecules, these might have either longer or shorter chains, that 'sound' at different moments in the PP accord to the original (or might combine with others things in slightly different ways?)? So the transitions are not faithfully reproduced, and some of the chord structure doesn't work in the same way, but they come right in the end (when the long chain molecules are still going).

Might also explain why the linear moderns seem to work better than classics, with more complicated structures?

That's my theory; I'm sure there are plenty of chemists on the thread who will now debunk...!

Hi Calendar fans...perhaps there is an option to extend it's life, at least until New Year? If enough of you are game, we could:

  • Extend the dates til the first week of Jan.
  • On a fastest finger first basis, find an empty date, and post a review of your favourite Christmas scent.
  • If anyone not so far involved, wants to join at this stage, editing links could be sent out...

Or, we could just draw it to a dignified close on 25/12? (Voting buttons would helpful at this stage).

I'm not sure if I'm getting any perfume although it's definitely on my list and I've been good all year. But I'd love to read some more reviews after the 24th.

Love today's review, especially the "Blahblahblah" at the end Grin it's interesting about "grown up" perfumes isn't it. I've worn (for example) L'Arpege for years but feel it suits me a bit better now I'm older. There are some definitely "grande dame" perfumes aren't there?

Judy I hope it clears soon! This year seems to have been a terrible year for awful colds and viruses. Really bad.

MrsL I know nothing about chemistry (I wasn't even allowed to take it at school as I was so bad Grin) but it does interest me, especially as some of the PP ones are so close.

Aubergines I'm sure someone will take you up on kind offer of Happy, I would snap your hand off but it reminds me of a fancy dress 30th birthday party I went to years ago where I was so dreadfully hungover afterwards I can't smell it these days without shuddering Blush I fell off my platform shoes too and dished my ankle Hmm

Definitely no Christmas perfume here, we have spent every spare penny on DCs so DH and I have agreed no presents. I've done him a stocking though as that's not a present is it

Hope everyone's not too stressed and busy with Christmas stuff! Happy Christmas Eve Eve WinkSmile

Innocent Dave made me lol. My DH is Dave and he is definitely not a perfumista.

judy I'm sorry you're still ill. This year seems to have been a shocker for colds and the like. My littlest has it and won't feed, and we're away without a breast pump, and I look frankly ridiculous, and am fearing mastitis will rearit's head.

SotD Camel but since I have a hangover after major overindulgence last night I have nothing intelligent to say about it.

Glad you like the ELDO MrsL, as well as the proverb there's also a bit of a pun in the name because a full balcony also refer to a full bosom.

Thanks Count, it's gorgeous. Yes, luscious and ripe Smile.

Calendar fans - have extended as far as I can (to 31/12), so we can post a week of reviews of our favourite Xmas sniffs, old and new. No rota from 26/12 onwards, just grab a slot and post. If anyone needs an editing link PM me.

Hope everyone has a fabulous Christmas. Wishing everyone love, peace and good times Xmas Smile Wine
