Mumsnetters' top picks from ASOS

AliceDMumsnet · 02/08/2018 16:08

Hi folks,

A swift glance at the Style & Beauty boards reveals ASOS’s popularity with MNers (where else can you get unlimited next-day delivery all year for a tenner?), but we wanted to know about Mumsnetters’ best ever ASOS purchases and pool the collective wisdom of our in-house style mavens.

So, whether it’s the perfect plain white tee or a party dress you can breastfeed in, we asked Mumsnetters to share their ASOS wardrobe staples and offered the chance to win a £50 voucher for their trouble. You can take a look at their top picks below and contribute your two cents if you like (though the competition is now closed).

This thread isn’t sponsored by ASOS, but we might use it to give us a steer on future content.

Update: we might add a link into your post if we think it would be helpful.

Mumsnet carries some affiliate marketing links, so if you buy something through our posts, we may get a small share of the sale (more details here).

I love ASOS and it's my go to place to find clothes now, I'm plus size and quite tall and I love that the plus size clothes are modelled on woman similar to my shape/size, I know what I'm getting and if it will suit me, I bought my wedding dress from ASOS and I honestly felt amazing in it and it was perfect, I've also bought my daughter's prom dress and she looked incredible and it was in the sale!

whitsunfells · 04/08/2018 22:35

I got a whole new wardrobe in ASOS for my pregnancies! There is an amazing range so I found some gorgeous stuff I was sad too be too small for when I had my babies! m.asos.com/asos-maternity/asos-design-maternity-kimono-pleated-midi-dress/prd/10420077?clr=duskyrose&SearchQuery=&cid=5813&gridcolumn=1&gridrow=5&gridsize=2&pge=1&pgesize=72&totalstyles=858

ASOS I my number one go to whenever I need a new staple. Have some killer camis I bought at a steal that fit so well and will last years. I love my basics and good fits, ASOS never disappoints in those areas. When I was pregnant my staples were from ASOS too!

One tip; why are all feeding tops / dresses always designed for being pregnant at the same time? Would love to see feeding tops etc made for after you’ve had your baby, lots of other mums agree with me on this one!

Also, I feel in recent years colour choices have been limited. Would love to see more blacks and whites, I’m not a bright colours or pattern person!

Bubba1234 · 05/08/2018 08:59

I love asos. It has everything that you need or want. Ihave a ton of items saved always. I love the mixture of price points. Sports brands cheap little summer dresses and brands for weddings like maya.
I’m loving asos brand stuff most of the stuff I bought is their own brand.

misskatamari · 05/08/2018 10:41

My best buys were when I was pregnant - they were fantastic for maternity clothes! I got some lovely floral skater dresses, which I still wear now, and some gorgeous cobalt blue maternity jeans. It's so hard to find nice maternity wear, especially on the high street, so ASOS made my life so much easier

gillyweed · 05/08/2018 10:52

There's not 1 particular item j rate from Asos, i just love being able to buy unusual unique clothing that keeps me young and with a sense of self.

I have 3 young kids and it's really easy to fall into the frumpy trap of supermarket clothes. The ASOS app is great for browsing and next day delivery means I can shop and buy when I'm in the mood. The returns policy is great - I order loads, try on, return whatever doesn't suit. It's made me fall back in love with shopping because it's all at my own pace.

Sunflowersforever · 05/08/2018 11:39

ASOS do amazingly good deals. I got a long black evening dress for £25 that is now my dress for all evening do work occasions

goose1964 · 05/08/2018 11:46

I've never bought from ASOS but I've had to ditch my favourite black winter trousers as they are too big and I've got my eye on the basic wide leg joggers to replace them

MummySparkle · 05/08/2018 12:26

I had the most awesome pair of brown suede low heel mod calf boots from ASOS. They were so comfy, wide enough to go over skinny jeans, but slim enough to look good with tights. I wore them solidly all through the winter of 2010!

Unfortunately they met their end when they had a fight with some pink acrylic paint and the paint won. Sad

NeverTwerkNaked · 05/08/2018 12:29

I love it for buying shoes! It saves the hassle of trawling round the shops and I find it’s search function is really excellent.
I also really like their sale section (4 kids so money for me is tight!). Again, it’s the fact the search function is so easy to use that means I can narrow down the massive range very easily and target my search.

finova · 05/08/2018 13:03

I love the tall range, particularly the tall skinny jeans.

daphine2004 · 05/08/2018 13:26

Last summer I bought loads of the ultimate v-neck t-shirts. Amazing fit, wash and dry well.

Have also bought from ASOS Nubian skin tone tights for darker skin. Amazingly close match and it’s nice to be able to wear nude tights that don’t look too light from the breast of my body!

Rach5ll · 05/08/2018 14:01

Luuuuurve ASOS, apart from the clothes, one thing I really like is how easy it is to return items, the bag, the stickers, it's all really easy to buy stuff in various sizes/colours etc then return what you don't want.
I recently bought this
LOVE this from ASOS!www.asos.com/prd/8768750
in various colours. I'm Size 18 & it's soooo flattering & light, I don't have to worry about my arms. I got it in red and washed spot too but not in tall (they didn't have them in tall) I'm not tall but I wanted it a bit longer

CountrysideClaire · 05/08/2018 15:19

Asos is a great place to shop. I love the wide range of products and brands and how easy the website is to navigate.

My latest purchase was a straw bag, there were many to choose from and all reasonably priced. During the summer months I like to swap to baskets, which are great for carting all the child paraphernalia around!

Asos is a great place to shop because it's always open and delivery is quick. Sometime I don't get a chance to browse until the children are in bed. I have been an Asos customer since the beginning!

thanksamillion · 05/08/2018 16:40

I've never really investigated ASOS but I'm inspired to by this thread!

rosybell · 05/08/2018 17:37

I brought my wedding dress from ASOS! A gorgeous needle & thread top & skirt.

YerTiz · 05/08/2018 19:29

I found Asos were great for maternity and breastfeeding clothes that fit well and still looked good.

I haven’t bought anything from them since then though - I ordered some dresses at Christmas for a posh do, but they didn’t fit very well. I’d definitely try again with them if I was looking for something in particular, they do have a good range of stuff.

Getfitmumma · 05/08/2018 21:01

I was very recently plus size but lost enough weight to fit into the standard range clothes which has opened more options for me but when I was plus size I found the variety of plus size for me was amazing but my favourite purchases have to be:

ASOS Curve Deep Side Lace Thongs - they are so comfortable and flattering over the hideous mum tum that I have/had.

ASOS Ultimate Mini Tea Dress - I have it in a few colours but the black is incredible flattering

ASOS Design Midi Skirt with Box Pleats - perfect length and again very flattering.

ASOS Curve Lace Top Hold Ups - these actually do hold up on my thighs rather than roll down!

Links added by MNHQ:

Curve deep side thongs, £10 for pack of 3

Ultimate tea dress, £15

Midi skirt, £16

I love ASOS petite range,as I'm only 5 2" midi and maxis tend to be too long. I also love being able to try at home and find returns easy and next day delivery for 9.95 for the year is good value. Just ordered this m.asos.com/asos-petite/asos-design-petite-midi-dress-with-tie-back-in-plisse-scatter-spot/prd/9835680?clr=navywhite&SearchQuery=petite%20midi%20dress&gridcolumn=1&gridrow=25&gridsize=2&pge=1&pgesize=72&totalstyles=229 :)

atomicnotsoblonde · 05/08/2018 22:27

Asos is the first place I look now. I love the easy to navigate petite range and that you fi size 4! Really easy to shop and great quick delivery and customer service.

Unexpectedbaby · 06/08/2018 08:46

I buy 95% of my wardrobe on ASOS. A-list and the unlimited next day delivery and free returns make shopping so easy!

I currently am hoping this Free People dress doesn't go out of stock before I have the money for it!!

LOVE this from ASOS!www.asos.com/prd/10494310

hammeringinmyhead · 06/08/2018 10:29

The ASOS maternity dungarees are my absolute favourite thing I've ever bought.

Here

I've had so many compliments on them, from colleagues to family (including my mum who wore a stonewashed pair in the 80s when she was pregnant with me!) to random comments on Instagram.

Maternity jeans almost all fall down on me (apart from Ridley underbump as they helpfully have belt loops). My only regret is that it's been too hot to wear them in the heatwave.

Doubtfuldaphne · 06/08/2018 11:35

I LOVE ASOS! It has something for everyone. I started shopping with them back in 2006 and it’s got so huge now but they still manage to maintain their high standards of customer service. It’s easy to return stuff and it’s free.
My recent favourite is this shift dress
m.asos.com/asos/asos-design-wiggle-mini-dress/prd/10129382?clr=black&SearchQuery=wiggle%20mini%20dress&gridcolumn=1&gridrow=1&gridsize=2&pge=1&pgesize=72&totalstyles=15
Perfect shape and perfect for night or day.

Deadheadstickeronacadillac · 06/08/2018 11:37

I discovered ASOS when I was a size 28...I was avoiding Evans like the plague because their clothes were awful and I was reliant on shipping in stuff from Lane Bryant in the US.
ASOS Curve was a godsend and allowed me to feel confident and smartly dressed (always important as a teacher).
I had a gastric sleeve 2 years ago, a baby 10 months ago and a hip replacement 4 months ago (this really outs me!). I have lost 10 stone so far but haven't really been out anywhere because of baby and being in a wheelchair.
I got the confidence together to go to a friends leaving do and ASOS came to the rescue again, this time I ordered a cheap, strapless dress but it made me feel fab and arrived within 14 hours of ordering it. I had a fabulous time out and the dress was a large part to do with that.
Hope the link below works!

Asos are the best. So much of my wardrobe and home comes from there even if isn't their own brand, although lots is.
So many decent brands under one roof -Chichi London, River Island and Sass & Belle to name a few.
Plus if like me two pairs of sandals get broken on holiday and you decide you want another bikini, you place an order and get it delivered to the holiday park reception next day! Even getting the lovely half size sandals on sale with one of their free samples that occasionally gets thrown in to - double bonus. Very helpful.
They have a loyalty scheme so points then become vouchers to. The saved item list works so well as you can see whether stocks low, what sizes are available and it sits for three months which is long enough to save for that must have item or even if the items gone in the sale.

www.asos.com/prd/10009103 currently saved

www.asos.com/prd/9252745 bargain price and a half size

www.asos.com/prd/9915275 to in love with Kimonos currently

www.asos.com/prd/8647700 graceful dress for evening do's

www.asos.com/prd/5913482 cute gifts (for myself) that don't break the bank

I love being able to try on at home in my own pace no pressure. Plus with 28 day returns gives me plenty of opportunity to return to either post office. Oh and now they do Klarna so you can purchase multiple if you are really not sure what you'll fit and going to send loads back ot doesn't cost you a penny.
