Mumsnetters' top picks from ASOS

Hi folks,

A swift glance at the Style & Beauty boards reveals ASOS’s popularity with MNers (where else can you get unlimited next-day delivery all year for a tenner?), but we wanted to know about Mumsnetters’ best ever ASOS purchases and pool the collective wisdom of our in-house style mavens.

So, whether it’s the perfect plain white tee or a party dress you can breastfeed in, we asked Mumsnetters to share their ASOS wardrobe staples and offered the chance to win a £50 voucher for their trouble. You can take a look at their top picks below and contribute your two cents if you like (though the competition is now closed).

This thread isn’t sponsored by ASOS, but we might use it to give us a steer on future content.

Update: we might add a link into your post if we think it would be helpful.

Mumsnet carries some affiliate marketing links, so if you buy something through our posts, we may get a small share of the sale (more details here).

ASOS are brilliant. Youngest DD ordered so much from them a few years ago that DH actually bought shares in the company ( which did very nicely thank you) Smile

I got an amazing dress I wore to an awards ceremony. Felt like a princess!

Unicornmammy · 02/08/2018 22:22

Love asos. Fave item has to be the dusky pink winter coat i bought last year... wanted the same coat the year before but was a bit more than i wanted to pay (and would have clashed with my little girls new winter coats lol) ... found it a year later in the sale. Love it and will be wearing again this year!

ASOS is great for maternity clothes - I've bought the pencil skirt, trousers and white shirts. The quick delivery got me out of a pickle with an unexpected work presentation when none of my regular work clothes fitted anymore!

Also been useful for bf clothes as well but definitely a winner for maternity!

I love the choice and better postage than Boohoo! My favourite ASOS dress is a gorgeous black and white dotty one with roses, it matches my lipstick perfectly.

I loved my halter neck tankini I got when I was pregnant. Tried on so many but it was the best by far. m.asos.com/asos-maternity/asos-maternity-high-neck-halter-tankini/prd/7956820

I have several of these: www.asos.com/asos/asos-cotton-t-shirt-dress-with-raglan-sleeve-boat-neck/prd/6962452

They are incredibly useful, versatile and comfortable. They can be day dresses with or without leggings, and nightwear or loungewear, and needless to say give different looks worn with various accessories and shoes (or slippers). Really nice good quality 100% cotton jersey and have lasted well. (They are two years old now).

For years I had wanted something like these as autumn/winter nightwear but had never found it before. And once I had them, due to the quality of the garment and current fashion I realised they have many more uses.

They are cut in such a way that they look cool and relaxed and young without seeming as if I'm trying to dress like a teenager.

pennycarbonara · 03/08/2018 01:15

I also liked that those (and other cotton jersey items I tried on around the same time) were made in Europe; it seemed more likely the makers were working in decent conditions than if they were sewn in some place on the other side of the world.

I got a dress over 10 years ago with ribbons that wrap around several times from ASOS, it’s still my favourite dress and going strong

plusonefail · 03/08/2018 06:52

Their maternity range was a saviour when I was pregnant, especially when I had occasions such as weddings and christenings to go to. My Best Buy was a stretch jersey bright pink maternity dress - it was the most flattering thing I’ve ever owned even with an enormous baby bump.

wineandcheeseplease · 03/08/2018 06:55

I lived in their maternity clothes when pregnant. Comfy and stylish

puglife · 03/08/2018 06:57

ASOS is my go to shop. I'm tall, 6ft, so love the fact they have a good selection in their tall range. There is nothing more satisfying than finding a maxi dress that reaches the floor! They were also a lifesaver when I was pregnant, as they do a tall maternity range.
I currently have a basket full of stuff that I'm considering purchasing, just not sure I really NEED them!

notnowman · 03/08/2018 07:00

Their wedding dresses are great and love the fact you can order a load of different ones to try on at home

BikeRunSki · 03/08/2018 07:02

I have size 9 feet, and finding shoes to fit is difficult. I like that ASOS have a lot of fashionable (rather than frumpy) size 9 styles, and I can filter them. My Best Buy been a pair of polished silver mid heel formal shoes. I bought them for s particular dress/occasion but they look great with many outfits.

ememem84 · 03/08/2018 07:02

They were my saviour when pregnant.

Where I live (jersey) we have few shops which actually sell a physical Maternity range, or anything more than a very limited range.

I bought all of my clothes online. Particular faves were stretch pencil skirts for work, and long line vests. And jeans. Oh Maternity jeans.

Dh buys most of his tshirts from asos.

I love how I can click and have the items with me in a few days (sadly because of my location I can’t get next day delivery...)

1moreRep · 03/08/2018 07:10

love the maternity dresses, clothes that were stylish and still "me" unlike the normal shops which put frumpy mother maternity clothes out assuming just because you're pregnant you have aged 30 years!!

this is a dress i wore exactly 7 years ago

i also love their underwear

Also, absolutely love ASOS Curve. My entire wardrobe is now from there. I'm wearing ASOS pyjamas as I type. Love the Premier Delivery option which is such a bargain. Also a big fan of the huge jumpers come Autumn time and ASOS leggings are fab. Really can't praise them highly enough. I love that Curve has its own jewellery section too so I can buy nice rings that actually fit my massive fingers. Love the multi angle photos and the videos that give you a proper idea of what a dress looks like etc...

cookiesandchocolate · 03/08/2018 07:16

Level 3 VIP here. Which means lots of offers. Early access to sales, 20% off birthday gift, points towards money off vouchers. Asos was my first ever online purchase at 16 (12 years ago) a sky blue shirt with a bow.

I have next day delivery which has never once let me down and is fantastic for last minute trips and nights out. I also find it useful as they stock other brands, (boohoo, river island, oasis, sass and belle) which means I can get an item next day without paying huge postage costs.

And it was only last year that I found out it stands for 'As Seen On Screen'. Mind blown Grin

Eminybob · 03/08/2018 07:20

Pretty much everything I buy is from ASOS. Is convenient, has fast delivery and you can pretty much get anything you are looking for.

Being pregnant, and plus size, trying to find stylish maternity clothes has been a nightmare in the shops - but I have bought loads of gorgeous maternity dresses.

My Best Buy recently is a beautiful purple wrap dress that I need for an upcoming event. It fits amazingly and was only £18! And it’ll be great for breastfeeding in when the baby comes.

Bumblebeans · 03/08/2018 08:02

I love ASOS in particular I like that they carry other brands too. My favourite ever ASOS buy is my Lazy Oaf rainbow cardigan. It's utterly ridiculous and I wear it all the time.

amusedbush · 03/08/2018 09:27

I love ASOS, their Premier delivery and the amazing loyalty scheme - plus I get student discount. Using a loyalty voucher and a 20% birthday voucher I bought a GHD hairdryer package with round brush and my hair has never looked so good!

CocteauTwin · 03/08/2018 10:50

I'm well above the age range ASOS target but order from them regularly. I have to thank them for getting me into wearing dresses. For years I didn't like dresses at all but about 6 years ago they started doing lovely swing dresses. Very simple and inexpensive, but they were great for my less than perfect figure. Since then they introduced the Curve range, which I am a big fan of. I like how their own stuff is decent quality, and well designed. Their White brand is a bit different and I have a few pieces from this range too. My favourite buy is an embroidered leather jacket which I treated myself to last year. It wasn't cheap, but it was great value for money. I love it so much. Needless to say, I pay the £10 each year to get next day delivery on all my orders. I get items delivered to a shop round the corner from me, so I don't even have to wait in for a courier. Super convenient. Can you tell I love ASOS?

TimeIhadaNameChange · 03/08/2018 10:55

I bought a little black dress from there recently. It was a bodycon dress and I'd wanted one for ages. I'm really pleased with it.
