Hi folks,

Some of you might have already spotted this, but Protected Species are offering Mumsnetters 40% off their lovely range of coats which has been very popular on MN in the past!

To redeem your discount just use code MUMS40 at the checkout - offer ends on the 14th August.

Mumsnet carries some affiliate marketing links, so if you buy something through our posts, we may get a small share of the sale (more details here).

my parka arrived this afternoon- delighted with it-

Linzi-your advice on sizing was spot on-got the 12-14 and its a perfect fit, even with a thick hoody underneath! thankyou.

Love the coat, and soo pleased with the 40% discount-thanks mumsnet Smile

nononsene · 13/08/2018 13:15

@fishinginthecut given how hefty the discount is already, it seems rather mean to want a further discount. Particularly as this is a tiny start up company and not a retail giant!

Strumpetpumpet · 13/08/2018 13:56

Ooh I’ve been thinking about one of these for ages but just couldn’t justify the cost but I can’t resist with a discount - so pleased I saw this 😀

fishinginthecut · 13/08/2018 15:05

@nononsene really?!

passthecheese · 13/08/2018 16:16

I ordered a Mac in grey size 12-14, which fits nicely but is not as big as I had hoped. The parka I ordered in size 10-12 seemed the same fit as the Mac so I’m going to exchange for size 12-14 to hopefully get a bit more room underneath for jumpers. They both look great and really pleased with both. I’m broad shouldered and usually size 10/12.

TriciaMcMillan · 14/08/2018 14:01

My Mac in storm has just arrived and is a fantastic piece of kit. 6-8 is perfect for me as a size 8, still with room to layer. Very impressed with styling, quality and service. Thanks to PS and MN. Bring on the rain!

DameDoom · 14/08/2018 16:30

There was an absolute deluge here yesterday afternoon. My parka coped beautifully. Went to visit MIL in hospital today and got many compliments from staff and patients on my city walker.
I'm yet to wear the commuter out.
I love all 3 coats and would normally never buy three big ticket items at once ...ever but the 40% made it justifiable.
I've never had so many comments on my coats before and believe me, I have a lot of lovely coats.
PS - the extension on the offer is beyond generous. I have already pointed lots more potential customers in your direction.

TriciaMcMillan · 14/08/2018 19:52

So impressed with my mac I've now ordered an olive green parka. Think I'm in a rain coat frenzy!

interestingdays · 15/08/2018 07:33

I really should learn my lesson and avoid reading MN's Style and Beauty threads.

Yet again, I've found something I now live and 'need' but had no idea I did so before coming across it on MN 😂!

That said, I'm equally grateful for both the recommendation and the enormously generous discount that made my purchase(s) possible (& tempting).

Can't help but keep more than one.

I absolutely adore the fabric: it feels like silk on my skin. What luxury! Beautifully made.

I do agree with poster who mentioned the coats not being 'sympathetic to pear shapes'. True in my case, too.
The Mac seems to be the most forgiving of the longer-length coats, in this respect.

The Commuter jacket is really stylish with its side fastening under the neck. Lovely!

I would like to think I'll get good use out of it over the colder months by popping a warm gilet underneath. May work for the more mildly cold weather, at least!

I'm a huge fan of silk scarves, which wood also work well with these coats: all the warmth with none of the bulk - and can be stowed away neatly.

heidipi · 15/08/2018 23:54

My parka has arrived and I love it!

Gorgeous fabric and beautifully made - quite a big purchase for me but I'll get so much wear out of it, it fits perfectly and will be great for walking the kids to school, then hopping on the bus to work and another walk at the other end - and repeat throughout the winter. Smart enough to turn up to meetings in and go out in too. Chuffed!

I've got the storm grey, which actually is quite aubergine I think - will go with everything and better on me than black.

powerjen · 16/08/2018 19:45

I too got the Parka (in green) an absolutely love it! Finally got to try out the waterproof properties today and confirm I was dry as a bone underneath. Also had multiple compliments about it.

I also ordered the Mac in black and whilst I loved that too I just can’t afford them both in one go so decided I had to return it. Which is where things went very wrong (not PS fault!). After a late evening trip to ikea last night DH put the returns parcel on the roof of the car whilst loading the stuff we’d bought in the boot, forgot, and drove off. Only realised this morning when he went to take it to the post office. So now I have no gorgeous Mac and no refund Sad Sad Sad.

I don’t know what’s worse - imagining that beautiful coat crushed by car wheels or some lucky bastard finding it and prancing around (ball lovely and dry) in my Mac!

powerjen · 16/08/2018 19:51

Anyway so I think the moral of my story is: keep all the coats! Grin

Scabetty · 16/08/2018 22:06
Shock
interestingdays · 16/08/2018 23:01

I must be the only person (along with all other PS purchasers) who was HAPPY that it was raining today. Although I didn't test drive my new coats - I can't decide which to keep or send back as ... I want them all!

Powerjen ... noooooooo!

heidipi · 16/08/2018 23:53

Powerjen 😱 have you retraced your journey? It's out there somewhere!!

DameDoom · 17/08/2018 01:44

Oh no Powerjen. It may make it's way back to you yet... fingers crossed.
Am relieved to know I am not the only one who is pluralising their PS coat ownership.
DH has asked if a menswear PS might be added to the range... any chance in the future?

Dancergirl · 17/08/2018 08:41

I got the commuter in burgundy Smile

I really like the navy colour but it doesn’t come in commuter.

powerjen · 17/08/2018 08:49

Oh yes. Retraced my steps. And spent an hour of my life i’ll never get back on the phone to ikea in the hope that someone found it in the car park and handed it in. But no joy. My only hope is that a kind person finds it all labelled up and ready to send (and it hasn’t been crushed by a 10-ton-truck) and takes it to the post-office. Which seems unlikely. Ugh. I could weep.

HalleLouja · 17/08/2018 11:01

I kind of wish I had bought another now. My Mac in blue is a bit long in the arms but can roll them up and it looks fine.

8FencingWire · 17/08/2018 19:43

I never write reviews. But I leave this out here: BUY it! I have the parka, thanks to the generous discount, some savings and years of no rain coat.
Just buy it. It’s worth the price, the craftmanship, design and quality are worth every penny you spend.

interestingdays · 17/08/2018 21:56

Oh powerjen. So upset for you. Perhaps a kindly Linzie might send you the one you were thinking of keeping but boxed up as a gesture of goodwill. I'd like to think so (having had so many fabulous reviews on here). I'd never have known about PS had I not read this thread.

clownfaces · 17/08/2018 22:01

I'm so jealous of you all. I only saw the offer yesterday and it had ended. Sad Will it be coming again does anybody know?

interestingdays · 17/08/2018 22:39

Oh Clown Confused (why is there no sad face). They may have another discount in the future. Let's hope

clownfaces · 18/08/2018 18:01

Thanks interesting. I have it sitting in my basket. I'll wait a week and see what happens.

Dilemmacentral · 18/08/2018 18:29
