Hi folks,

Some of you might have already spotted this, but Protected Species are offering Mumsnetters 40% off their lovely range of coats which has been very popular on MN in the past!

To redeem your discount just use code MUMS40 at the checkout - offer ends on the 14th August.

Mumsnet carries some affiliate marketing links, so if you buy something through our posts, we may get a small share of the sale (more details here).

My mac arrived - I'm so disappointed.... the material is lovely and soft, the colour is lovely (burnt red) but the fit is wrong on me, sleeves way too long and if I put my hands in the pockets it pulls across my bum and nobody likes that. I love a pocket but they are set too far back (like either side by your hips) so for me, unusable.

I might order the parka instead as the quality is very good but just for me the fit is wrong.

rozzyraspberry · 07/08/2018 19:37

Linzie/or any other knowledgeable people Smile

The parka in 10/12 fit me perfectly on top but although it fastened, was tight over my bum.

What size would you recommend for the Mac - is it a looser fit over the hips or shd I get 12/14?

TimeForANewNameIThink · 07/08/2018 20:21

Another question to Linzie or someone at Protected Species who can advise re sizes...i ordered the parker in a size 16/18 and i would say i'm a 16, so i was expecting it to be quite roomy, which i prefer in my coats, however, it fits fine over a t-shirt, but over a thick jumper (which is how i'll wear it most of the time, it is very tight and clingy and not at all flattering. I really like the material and style, but i'd really need a size up to be comfortable (and you don't make them). So i'm wondering if the mac would be better fit if it is cut differently?

NigellasGuest · 07/08/2018 20:22

My Mac arrived today, it's a storm grey one and a perfect fit. I really like it! Loads better than M&S etc and that's without comparing for water resistance, which I'm sure this one will be superior in as well. I'm a size 8-10 and the 6-8 fits perfectly. Body shape wise, I'm smallish of boob and have narrow hips if that helps anyone sizing wise. I'm so glad I bought this, even though I'm not really "feeling it" yet regarding Autumn clothing (who is, in this weather)? Come October I would have been regretting not taking advantage of this offer now if I hadn't bitten the bullet and made the purchase, I think. I must say, customer service is excellent too. Thank you again!

LinzieProtectedSpecies · 07/08/2018 22:11

Redact thank you so much, you're very welcome!

Rozzyraspberry If you found the fit around your upper body ok, I'd stay the same size for the Mac, as it isn't fitted over the hips in the same way the Parka is! You could also try the Commuter as it has no restrictions over the hips.

TimeforaNewNameIthink The Mac is certainly a looser fit which you can adjust to suit your frame with the belt. As above you also might like the Commuter as it's more of a cocoon shape (it does have slimmer fitting arms though, so may not suit with bulkier jumpers)

Linzieprotectedspecies - when does
This promotion end? I need one of these coats for the rainy days but can't this month Sad

RiddleyW · 08/08/2018 10:28

I am pretty pleased with my Storm Grey mac! As a few others have said the arms are quite long but I can live with it. Very good at the discounted price.

Scabetty · 08/08/2018 12:42

So angry and sad! DPD have lost my delivery between warehouses and so I won’t have my Mac today. I have to email PS. I am fuming and 15 yo ds says I don’t handle disappointment well; I am menopausal fgs Wink

LinzieProtectedSpecies · 08/08/2018 13:56

Scabetty I'm looking into this for you - please check your email!

Chablislover this promo ends on Sunday 12th

Scabetty · 08/08/2018 14:13

Thanks Linzi. Can’t repeat all the adjectives I have used to describe delivery company today Grin

LinzieProtectedSpecies · 08/08/2018 14:29

Scabetty - I've sorted this out for you - check your emails again! Huge apologies for the issue and hopefully all will be well now...

sulflower · 08/08/2018 14:38

For anyone wondering how waterproof their coat is, I have only been able to wear my parka once in the rain since I bought it in June (amazing considering I live in the far NE Scotland!). It was absolutely heaving it down and I was bone dry. I bought the sandstone colour and I absolutely love it. I've only just realised it has a drawstring along the bottom too Blush.

RiddleyW · 08/08/2018 15:16

Yes that’s what I like about these coats as opposed to M&S they seem properly weatherproof. Nice box as well, enjoyed opening the package.

LinzieProtectedSpecies · 08/08/2018 15:43

Thank you so much sulflower and RiddleyW!

Our jackets are absolutely guaranteed 100% waterproof, as oppose to many high street which are actually only showerproof.

My blue parka has arrived. I am rarely impressed but I am really really delighted with the coat.

The fabric is extraordinary- so soft and drapey, beautiful colour ( I chose blue) and the water just ran off it. Amazing.

Thankyou for the discount. Genuinely chuffed.

missfliss that looks fabulous on you! Thanks for sharing your pictures, and we're delighted that you're so pleased with your new Parka!

lennyisnuts · 08/08/2018 19:23

Completely misread this as protected species goats.

WhoahThereCrazyHorse · 08/08/2018 21:47

How warm are these coats - the parka specifically? I can justify it if it’s my new winter coat, but I fear I would need something thicker for proper winter. Anyone able to advise please?

DameDoom · 09/08/2018 02:10

Woke up in the middle of the night thinking I must have another PS coat - just ordered a Commuter in olive and a night sky City Walker.
Bloody knew this would happen.

sulflower · 09/08/2018 08:13

@WoahThereCrazyHorse The coats aren't warm enough to replace a winter coat, you would need layers underneath. Windproof though.

Nousernameforme · 09/08/2018 09:05

Well whilst I think these are lovely especially the parka they are well our of my price range.

However this thread did remind me that i would need a rain coat come autumn and that now would be a good time to grab a bargain. I got a completely different one elsewhere reduced from £80 to £24 so i am very happy thank you.

guffaux · 09/08/2018 09:11

Sent for my coat- If it doesn't fit, and I send for a replacement , will I still get the discount if its after the 12th?

niceupthedance · 09/08/2018 10:51

I too have been eyeing these coats for a while; my dog walking parka is no longer suitable to wear to work Blush so a parka is on its way!
Cheers MN

LinzieProtectedSpecies · 09/08/2018 10:59

guffaux yes of course, any orders that need to be exchanged would stay at the discounted price paid.

LinzieProtectedSpecies · 09/08/2018 11:01

DameDoom - Grin you weren't the only person that ordered in the wee small hours
