Hi folks,

Some of you might have already spotted this, but Protected Species are offering Mumsnetters 40% off their lovely range of coats which has been very popular on MN in the past!

To redeem your discount just use code MUMS40 at the checkout - offer ends on the 14th August.

Mumsnet carries some affiliate marketing links, so if you buy something through our posts, we may get a small share of the sale (more details here).

@littlemy77 the lining is 100% polyester. It feels light and matt if that makes sense, not shiny like the jacket itself.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 05/08/2018 12:55

I prefer this from M&S and its a bargain at £45. This is petite fit but there are similar macs in other fits. Is this where stylish Auntie Jean shops? www.marksandspencer.com/petite-trench-coat-with-stormwear/p/p60114881?image=SD_01_T49_3199P_UL_X_EC_90&color=PEBBLE&prevPage=plp&pdpredirect

Here’s the standard fit one in lots of colours.

Ah no! The dark grey parka out of stock in my size Sad

LittleMy77 · 05/08/2018 13:40

Thanks well

Redact · 05/08/2018 16:28

Can anyone recommend please what style would be best to have as a more dressy coat. You know to pull on if you're off for a night out, dinner, theatre, etc. It often rains where I live and it's so annoying when all dressed to go out and have to try and keep dry with a brolly and a hope that's it not too windy! I do already have a parka and the shorter jacket and I can't recommend them enough.

Scabetty · 05/08/2018 17:01

I think the Mac would be smartest. I have the City and Commuter which are both loose fitting and work smart but I wouldn’t wear on a fancy night out unless I was going to bung them in a cloakroom.

LinzieProtectedSpecies · 05/08/2018 17:41

fleuriepeninsula which style did you order? The Parka is the slimline fit but you might get on better with The Commuter - it's more of a cocoon shape and has no restrictions around the hips. Exchanges are free is you want to try it out?

Redact I'd agree that The Mac is the smartest - works really well during the day and super-stylish for nights out!

Littlemy77 it's 100% polyester, very soft lining.

All our styles are guaranteed 100% waterproof - and machine washable at 30'.

We're happy to send out swatches if any of you want to see the material and colours in real life - just fill out the swatch request form on the website.

Thanks!

guffaux · 05/08/2018 20:27

hi linzi- i love the parka- it will be perfect or work- i'm a small 16, heading for 14, can you recommend which size? Smile

CountFosco · 05/08/2018 20:57

We don't save for the kids. We have plenty of money and do save a lot each month just not in the kids names. I don't really agree with 18 year olds being given a large lump sum. DH and I both come from very MC backgrounds and although we got help through uni (and DH had an expensive schooling) we've had no help since. TBH I'm more worried about our retirement than the kids who have a lot of advantages.

CountFosco · 05/08/2018 20:58

I have literally no idea how that comment got posted on this thread!

Witchend · 05/08/2018 23:35

Anyone else think "Protected Species Coats" sounds rather unethical. Dh thought it was things like real leopard. Grin

He also says at that price he'd expect them to be gold lined.

Scabetty · 05/08/2018 23:38

How funny.

Gumpendorf · 06/08/2018 11:54

My coats arrrived today and they are gorgeous. So well made and very cozy.

I love my navy Parka and can't wait to wear it!

The Olive City Walker is a great colour which felt amazing, but I'm not sure about the shorter style on me. I do want something in that colour though so I've ordered the Commuter and will return one of them.

Sizing is perfect (12 -14) and the sleeves are just the right length.

I bought one of the M&S Macs for spring with 20% off. It's a nice coat though I haven't worn it much but there is absolutely no comparison in styling and material. Protected Species is in another class.

Many thanks to Protected Species and Mumsnet for the offer.

DameDoom · 06/08/2018 13:06

My Storm Grey Parka has arrived today. I love it. The quality is outstanding. Very pleased indeed.

Doggo1 · 06/08/2018 14:05

They look so boring Confused

Like something Gweneth paltrow would wear in a 2045 sci-fi flop

Scabetty · 06/08/2018 14:27

Post something you like Doggo1 for comparison.

LinzieProtectedSpecies · 06/08/2018 15:35

Gumpenforf and DameDoom delighted you love them - thanks so much for your lovely comments!

Guffaux I'd give the 12-14 a try - the cut of the material and the stretch it has should fit you nicely.

rubyslippers83 · 06/08/2018 16:33

Today I received my navy mac and I love it! Great quality, comfortable and although the sleeves are probably slightly long, otherwise it fits perfectly. Thanks Protected Species and Mumsnet for the discount- would have been out of my price range otherwise Smile

missfliss · 06/08/2018 19:29

Just ordered a Parka in cityscape blue...thankyou Protected Species

Laquila · 06/08/2018 20:30

That’s a brilliant discount. I have the Mac in black and the City Walker in Olive, and I’ve had so much wear out of them - they’re so comfortable and light.

I’m a 14 and I have the City Walker in 12-14 and the Mac in Large. The former is a baggier style and actually feels bigger than the Mac.

buckeejit · 06/08/2018 21:49

Lovely coats, sadly not big enough for me. I need to lose weight!

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 07/08/2018 13:13

Anyone else think "Protected Species Coats" sounds rather unethical.

I clicked onto this thread in a mixture of horror and disbelief. But they're not selling otter-lined bat-jackets, so it's all good.

nononsene · 07/08/2018 13:57

I've been lusting after one of these coats for a while, so have just ordered. What a fabulous discount!!

Redact · 07/08/2018 19:33

Thank you for the recommendation of the Mac and the generous discount. Ordered. Exceptional coats and excellent customer service Linzie!
