Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

I've just read online that nyx doll eyes is a tubing one and is meant to be good, has anyone tried that?

Pupsiecola · 06/10/2018 19:16

Thank Sallie.

JDSTER · 06/10/2018 21:40

TS I like anything rose so if you like NY I’d stick with it. I’ve just bought the rose balm to use as a cleanser over the winter (they’ve just had 20% off) and it can also be used as a balm/oil. Smells wonderful.

pupsie I’m a long time fan of Essie nail polish. Mademoiselle is a lovely natural shade that looks like nails but better. Some nudes look quite obvious on I think, but this doesn’t. I also like Leighton Denny topcoat, same as Tant and recommend it to Enid iirc

SophieLion · 07/10/2018 07:24

Hello Bo Smile** and thank you for the DE purchasing info and discount code. Will def be raising the vit C issue with derm when I make my appointment. IIRC she also wanted to up my retinoid to 1%.
On the whole skin (spots) are much better but got a few recently which I think is due to stress.

Thanks re nail varnish. Those who like the Leighton Denny top coat, is it the 2 in 1, or the Crystal Finish?

Also, what's this all about? Do you put your fingers in the pot?!

Pupsie those polish remover pots are excellent, you can get versions form Essence and Bourjois too, among others. Basically it is a pot of acetone-filled sponge. It is particularly good for removing more stubborn types of varnish (glitter etc). I keep one in the car for nail emergencies (yes I know, sounds mad but they happen and I wear polish all the time!) as it won't spill ;)

Tsmummy08 · 07/10/2018 14:00

Hi all, thanks for the comments and suggestions re. oils.... I think I'm going to stick with the NYR Rose oil - it's a pleasure to use...

Bo Yes I use Ceramidin and have the liquid as well for - I tend to use that in the morning, and CeraVe PM after tret in the evening but like to apply an oil after I've used BR P50, so every other night.

Pupsiecola · 07/10/2018 15:21

Thanks miffy. How long do they last?

JDSTER · 07/10/2018 16:06

pupsie I use crystal finish

TantricTwist · 07/10/2018 17:36

Pupsie Crystal finish. Its esp amazing on toes as it lasts till the colour grows out even if I've been swimming in the sea or chlorine pool.

mintmagnummm · 07/10/2018 18:52

I bought nyx doll eyes mascara today, it doesn't mention anywhere on packaging about being a tubing mascara but then none of the tubing ones do really which is really frustrating actually! Ive read online that it is definitely tubing though so will give it a try and will report back...

mintmagnummm · 07/10/2018 18:53

Oh meant to say it was £8 so will be great if I like it

miffy2 · 08/10/2018 08:48

I couldn’t tell you, Pupsie but I’ve had mine for ages. I reckon you could top it up with a bit of acetone if needed as well. I wouldn’t use mine all the time but it certainly hasn’t dried out.

Ollivander84 · 08/10/2018 17:21

I have a facial oil sent to me to test. Not many clues except it's a dual phase one you have to shake and apply after cleansing in the morning. It says about AHAs and apply suncream. Smells a bit citrusy Confused

Got a bit carried away on the ebloggers website (cheap makeup and skincare from bloggers), got an alpha h hydration set, a cleansing balm and elixir from a small UK company that smell so good

Connie5858 · 08/10/2018 17:31

Hi just finishing my foundation
Lancôme feint idol
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations please for my next one
I did use Ester Lauder dw for years
And quite like the Lancôme
But is there any others

SallieSallow · 08/10/2018 19:06

Olli I used to test products years ago, I think it was for the Beauty bible, I didn’t like anything they sent so they gave up on me Grin

Koko this is the mascara, I get it from amazon.
DHC Mascara

Mint let me know how you get on with the NYX one, I’m especially interested in the size of the brush as I like a skinny/spindly one.

Connie I like IT cosmetics CC cream but NARS tinted moisturiser is popular here too.

mintmagnummm · 08/10/2018 19:17

Sallie the nyx mascara was a massive let down 🙄. The brush was tapered in the middle if that makes sense?? The formula itself was quite thick and went on quite clumpy. The brush didn't seem to comb through my lashes at all. Not impressed.

mintmagnummm · 08/10/2018 19:18

Connie I can't use foundation on my skin so I use the nars tm Sallie mentioned. Not sure if this will be enough coverage for you though as the ones you listed are quite heavy

JDSTER · 08/10/2018 19:36

connie I switched from EL daywear to NARS tinted moisturiser no problem. NARS is non comedogenic, unlike the daywear (which I had used on and off for years). Also no fragrance and oil free but not at all drying. I bought it based on recommendation from Dr Sam Bunting.

sallie I was a beauty bible tester too Grin I also didn’t like anything they sent and felt it was a huge let down.

SallieSallow · 08/10/2018 19:52

Thanks Mint I’ll stay well clear of that one. At least it was only £8! I’d definitely recommend the DHC one as it’s £13 on Amazon so not mega bucks, I have prime though so not sure what the P&P is if you don’t.

Glad I’m not the only one JDSTER some of the stuff they sent me was really high end/expensive too but it was all useless. I told them I had oily skin and was interested in skin balancing/reducing breakouts rather than anti ageing (this was about 10 years or so ago now) but they kept sending me all this heavy duty anti ageing stuff that gave me spots Angry

Ollivander84 · 08/10/2018 20:02

This is for boots Grin
I've had some great stuff - a mascara I loved, some body lotion etc so I'm hopeful!
