Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Oh it's just the one serum Elspeth I thought they were two separate things Confused

I'd be inclined to use it only at night on clean skin before your Vichy 89 and moisturiser, at least initially but if you're keen to use to twice a day then I think still contact VH or GOW and ask them how it interacts with their Vit c. It sounds to me like they kind of do the same thing so using both together might be overkill. I'm quite sensitive to Vit c so personally I wouldn't want to mix it with another active serum but that's not to say others wouldn't be fine with it.

ElspethFlashman · 22/09/2018 20:03

Oh I didn't realise they might do the same thing! But then I haven't a clue what I'm doing, really.

I think I'll use the Vit C in the morning and this other thingy in the evenings and see how I get on.

mintmagnummm · 22/09/2018 20:35

I've used the medik8 3tr 3 times now (not consecutively) and no irritations so far...

mintmagnummm · 22/09/2018 20:37

Oh and just a heads up for you, escentual are having their 1/3 off French pharmacy starting on 1st Oct if any of you need to top up. I'll be placing an order for sure!

SallieSallow · 22/09/2018 20:59

Elpseth I'm not sure if they're the same, it just sounds like it from that info you copied and pasted, as skin brightening and improving uneven skin tone is what Vit c does too. But I'm not familiar at all with the second serum so don't take me word as gospel Grin

That's good Mint I'm into week 2 of medik8 Vit c and no irritation so looking positive. No results yet (too soon) but I really like everything about it so far.

mintmagnummm · 22/09/2018 21:34

That's great Sallie 👍🏻

mintmagnummm · 24/09/2018 06:11

It's very quiet on here 🤨

BabyPigeon83 · 24/09/2018 08:57

Nadine Baggot made a video about some alternatives to The ordinary (this is part 1, part 2 will have revolution skincare I think )

miffy2 · 24/09/2018 13:05

Heads up - iHerb have 22% off beauty today, it ends later this evening.

It includes Pixi, Cerave (the good, US versions) and Mad Hippie - thinking of trying out their C serum as I like their peptide cream.

EnidButton · 24/09/2018 16:38

You've dropped off my 'threads I'm on' so just a cheeky place mark. Hope everyone is well. 🍂🍁🌻

ElspethFlashman · 24/09/2018 17:29

Thanks, they also have cosrx and Physicians Formula so hopefully it includes that.

SallieSallow · 24/09/2018 18:55

Yes we have been a bit quiet Mint other than adding medik8 Vit C I've not made any changes to my routine for ages, I'm guessing everyone else must be pretty settled with theirs at the moment as well. And for some reason my iPad is not letting me put paragraphs on here anymore Confused which is rather annoying, if anyone knows how to sort it please let me know! Waves to Enid 👋

BabyPigeon83 · 24/09/2018 19:23

I just received the new sunscreen I ordered from Paula's Choice. www.paulaschoice.co.uk/defense-essential-glow-moisturizer-spf-30-m2230.html?dwvar_m2230_size=fullsize&cgid=defense#start=0&top=525.84375 They launched a new range recently called defense, meant to be anti-pollution but in reality is meant for skincare beginners. There is a new cleanser, new serum, new night moisturizer and a new day moisturizer (by new I mean new formulations, not old repackaged formulations). I want to try the cleanser in the future, but for now I ordered the SPF 30 mineral moisturizer. As far as I can tell it's more hydrating than their hydralight mineral sunscreen that I currently use. It has both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide and it's not tinted. I hope it will suit my skin as the weather goes colder. What I don't like about Paula's Choice (UK) is their weak marketing. They launch a new range but I never received an email about it (I am subscribed to the newsletter and order from them regularly), I wanted to buy some samples from the new range, they have none. They offer random free samples with every order instead of offering a sample set for the new launched range. I don't get it... For some reason I can't use paragraphs either, sorry for the blocky text...

SallieSallow · 24/09/2018 20:05

What is going on with the paragraphs, I'm hitting return and - nothing Angry glad it's not just me though Babypigeon misery loves company Grin That is very poor marketing by PC, I've never ordered anything directly from their website though, in fact I think the only PC product I've ever tried is the 2% BHA.

SallieSallow · 24/09/2018 21:13

Babypigeon seems like our paragraph issue is happening to loads of people, it's been reported on Site Stuff so hopefully MN will sort it out soon.

EnidButton · 24/09/2018 23:04

Hi Sallie Smile I thought my phone had broken earlier because of the return button thing! Until I looked on site stuff. Odd thing to go wrong, seems insignificant but it's blumin annoying.

EnidButton · 24/09/2018 23:07

Someone on site stuff just suggested using dictation. Hit the mic button and say "new line"
It does the trick!

Good as a temporary solution. Smile

mintmagnummm · 25/09/2018 07:24

Yeah I guess so Sallie, I miss the chit chat though 😞.

My return button is working, maybe the issue has been fixed now??

Hi Enid how are you? Not sure if you saw my earlier message about the escentual 1/3 off, I know you like to order from there too.

mintmagnummm · 25/09/2018 07:45

Can anyone recommend me an eyeshadow please, I'm looking for one colour I can wear every day that's a nice natural pretty shade. I don't like a frosty finish as they make my eyes look so crepey! I'm a golden blonde (despite always thinking I was a redhead I've been informed I'm golden 😆) and my eyes are grey/green/blue. Thanks in advance x

Bluebell9 · 25/09/2018 10:49

Mint have you had a look at the Naked eye shadows?

mintmagnummm · 25/09/2018 11:33

Bluebell I've looked at the naked palettes but I don't want a palette as there are always so many I would never use, I'd prefer just one or two colours that I can use alone. Do they do any single shades that you can think of that would compliment my colourings?

EnidButton · 25/09/2018 17:18

Thank you Mint Smile I'll make a note of that. Will stock up on bioderma shower oil.

My nails are dry and peeling slightly. Nothing changed dietary wise so I've given them a really good file and going to drench them in moisturiser. Generally feel a bit dried out actually. Could be the change in weather.

mintmagnummm · 25/09/2018 17:27

No worries Enid. That shower oil is one of the things on my list too!

miffy2 · 25/09/2018 18:33

I took advantage of the Clinique GWP (Brown Thomas, Dublin) today as I was already buying a foundation for my MIL...

I got a the overnight lip balm which is a staple for me anyway and the new concealer. The GWP is fairly generous and for buying a 3rd item I got a full size TTDO balm.

After that, I was tempted to go mad in SpaceNK and get the Hourglass vanish foundation stick (tried it on and it is lovely but ££) along with some IGK hair gel, to take advantage of the £/€15 off £/€60 spend but I wisely walked away. DH is bringing me home a whole pile of skincare goodies from the US at the weekend anyway!
