Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Ooh paragraphs are back Grin

Koko I don't really know anything about rosacea and am not familiar with the products you've mentioned so I wouldn't like to advise on that.

Mint I use Tarte eyeshadows and they do some good matte neutrals but all in palettes, I don't think they do singles at all, not in the U.K. anyway. I think Olli is your woman when it comes to eyeshadows.

Enid my nails are in a state at the moment, I'm blaming the Essie gel polish which I'm NOT impressed with at all. Chipped really quickly and has left my nails very stained and dry looking. I normally have bomb proof nails, even proper gel nails don't damage them.

That sounds like a good haul Miffy I've been tempted with that hourglass foundation too but the price has put me off as well, & it's not like I need a new foundation.

JDSTER · 25/09/2018 21:47

I was wondering about going mad in space NK miffy2 with that £15 off £60 spend. Considering the chantecaille mascara that Bo loves for the bargain price of £62 Shock. I’d like to try it first, not surprisingly.

FallingForRosie · 25/09/2018 22:07

@miffy2 I didn't realise Brown Thomas had the GWP offer on, will be making a trip to my local one tomorrow!

miffy2 · 25/09/2018 22:21

Yes! It’s on till October 6th. I missed it last year, the BT one is always the best!

FallingForRosie · 25/09/2018 23:14

Fantastic, thanks Miffy2

Now the challenge will be to not get distracted by all the lovely clothes Grin

EnidButton · 26/09/2018 00:27

I love a gwp, have to be strict with myself now and not buy stuff just so I can get one but they do feel like a little present.

I have the hourglass vanish stick, it was great when first applied but looked terrible after 20 minutes. It's too thick and dry for me. Makes a brilliant concealer for blemishes though so I can still get use out of it.

I've used Elasticizer tonight. Always forget how much I like it.

Sallie I avoid that one then as my nails are definitely not bomb proof! Staining is so annoying. A good buff seems to help remove it but hopefully it'll fade after a few days anyway.

EnidButton · 26/09/2018 00:32

The shiny sparkly Christmas beauty gifts are in the shops now btw. Not strictly skincare but has anyone seen anything that takes their fancy? Autumn and Winter make up and body care products are so nice. Al those oils, berry colours and rose golds.

I used to be a sucker for GWP purchases too but ended up with a stockpile of stuff I didn't need or use. I'm also staying well away from the temptation of sparkly Christmas stuff and advent calendars Grin

Enid I think others here like the Essie gel polishes, I was just very unimpressed with the longevity as I'm used to proper gel nails that last 3 weeks. And don't stain my nails!! I've been scrubbing them to try and get the stains off which is probably what's caused the rest of the damage - buffing didn't help much.

And thank you for that review on the hourglass foundation, I'll steer clear as don't need a concealer.

Koko what are you waiting on and where from? Is it the cerave as I think amazon send that from the US these days.

Oops sorry for the double post Blush didn't think it had posted then it appeared twice!

EnidButton · 26/09/2018 23:53

I love the normal Essie polishes anyway so won't miss not getting the gel ones. They do vary in formula quite a lot though. Some are much thinner than others.

I suddenly feel like my age is starting to show. Like this is the very beginning of it. My jawline is changing ever so slightly. I've whined on about looking too young for years and now I'm eyeing up the face tape and considering a Croydon facelift. HmmGrin

Pupsiecola · 27/09/2018 09:03

I use almond oil on my nails and it makes a huge difference to their strength.

Sorry you're feeling that way Enid. It's shocking how it can seemingly sneak up and catch you unawares. How old are you, if you don't mind sharing?

Nothing new to report here. Same old. DH is in NY and has bought me a DE Vit C. I know it's launching in Space NK soon, but it will no doubt be pricier.

Bluebell9 · 27/09/2018 10:34

Mint Urban Decay do the singles of the eyeshadows but I'd be useless at recommending a shade for you.

I'm feeling dry at the moment, face and body which I'm assuming is the change in weather. I think I'll have to change something in my routine for winter.

mintmagnummm · 27/09/2018 11:19

Enid I know how you feel, I feel like I'm starting to look haggard especially around my eyes!! They are a problem for me. I'm going to be 37 very soon.

Bluebell thank you I will go and have a look at their singles and see if there's any colours that look promising. Thanks again x

Late 30's Pupsie. It's honestly not noticible. Not too bothered, I hate looking loads younger so perhaps any face will catch up now. Grin I've just felt about 80 this week due to pain. Feeling a bit better today though which is great.

Mint cutting out sugar will help that area loads.

What was the pink face wash that someone was using to get rid of SF and blackheads? Think it was pink. One you can buy in boots. Neutrogena maybe? Going to try it on my nose.

EnidButton · 27/09/2018 13:14

I'd use it instead of a serum Koko. Or if it's just on your nose and upper cheeks you could put serum on the other areas? I don't know for sure but that's what I instinctively feel. Then you can judge how it's performing better.

EnidButton · 27/09/2018 13:15

any face my face

👑👑👑

EnidButton · 27/09/2018 13:19

The pink grapefruit neutrogena cash wash has 2% salicylic acid.

Ah found it now. Thanks Biologi

Biologifemini · 27/09/2018 14:21

It is magic
I know foaming wash is supposed to be bad but i now have ‘perfect’ skin with regards to pores. And now I don’t get spots from SPF either. It has all round improved everything, if a little drying. So I don’t use much/rub in for long on cheeks.
Saved me from repurchasing the white glam glow mask which absorbs oil and acts as an acid.

EnidButton · 27/09/2018 15:40

Going to get it to try on my snout 🐽 Smile SFs are greatly reduced thanks to the Vichy clay mask but feel like I need something else too. If it works well there I'll try it on the rest of my face.

EnidButton · 27/09/2018 15:47

Actually looking at reviews I think it might be too much for my sensitive skin. Has made me think about looking in that section of Boots again though. I'm sure there'll be something g similar.

mintmagnummm · 27/09/2018 17:00

Enid I NEED sugar in my life 🤦🏼‍♀️
