Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Frezyderm Colour Velvet users - I'm finding if I apply the amount I normally would of the non-colour version, enough to ensure full sunscreen coverage, it is too much foundation coverage. I looked caked in it. Does anyone else find this, or perhaps tried half non-tinted and half tinted?

Ollivander84 · 12/08/2018 15:48

Dior backstage face and body foundation. I like this so far, feels v natural

EnidButton · 12/08/2018 16:53

Looks very fresh Olli and I promise I wasn't purposely looking at your chest but what bra is that please? (Unless it's from a bit back and I won't find it now) Love the colour!

Ollivander84 · 12/08/2018 18:42

It's called Dina and it's from bravissimo, I have it in black too. They have a lovely mint green one in but I can't remember the name

Pupsiecola · 12/08/2018 19:31

I think Bo said she felt Dr Sam's wouldn't suit her because of one of the ingredients not rinsing off properly.

I'm shattered and not feeling great. Yoga weekend was good but being out of the house from 9am to 6.30pm both days off the back of a 14 hour drive on Friday hasnt helped. Was already feeling like I was fighting a cold. Now have 3 mouth ulcers too :(

Ollivander84 · 12/08/2018 21:20

The facial oil I got from TK Maxx smells incredible! Really like it

EnidButton · 13/08/2018 03:43

Thank you Olli Smile I'll have a look on there.

I shouldn't say my skin is doing well on here because everyone I do it starts playing up. It's been terrible the past two days. Oily, bumpy, spotty, lots of sf's on my nose and very very congested. Confused So I'm going to do that perricone skin 'diet', if I can find it, and hopefully in a few days it will feel better.

mintmagnummm · 13/08/2018 10:07

Anyone want any of these....

pearlkent · 13/08/2018 10:33

Hey mint - me again Smile. I wouldn't mind them. Always wanted to try Dermalogica in particular. You already have my details, but if anyone else wants them, please let them have priority.
Are you having a clear out???

Bluebell9 · 13/08/2018 13:10

Pupsie, sorry it took so long to reply, I've been on holiday. I love the clarins pure melt cleanser. I've tried the TTDO balm and DHC oil and go back to Clarins every time. If you do try it, rub it in your fingers before putting it on your face as it makes it easier to spread all over.

Bluebell9 · 13/08/2018 13:15

Also Pupsie and Bo as you both mentioned the Vichy 89. Look Fantastic have it for 25% off at the moment.

mintmagnummm · 13/08/2018 16:36

I will get them in the post for you as soon as I can, think I'll need to take them to post office as there's quite a few things so may not be able to send them until fri/sat if that's ok?
Yes I'm trying to get rid of the bits and bobs I won't/can't use x

Pupsiecola · 14/08/2018 09:59

Anyone want any/all of these samples which arrived with my Cosrx?

Pupsiecola · 14/08/2018 11:01

Thanks Bluebell. I am really liking the Vichy 89. I prefer it to the DE and the Clinique ones I had. Re the cleansers I'm torn between trying the Claris, and the GOW one. I will probably try the GOW one first...

pearlkent · 14/08/2018 11:12

Hi again mint, I've sent you a private message. No rush for the posting, it's very kind of you to offer them in the first place. I can reimburse you for P&P.
What are your skincare concerns by the way? Mine are open pores, blotchiness, redness and broken veins around my nose. Could be rosacea maybe. I had bad skin (acne) as a teenager and remember getting prescribed something very chalky and white from the GP. It worked but caused massive peeling and it bleached all my pillowcases and towels. No idea what it was, or whether it's still used (it was the late 1970s).
I've just started oil cleansing with castor oil and almond oil - early days but I like the feel of it, and the ritual.

mintmagnummm · 14/08/2018 15:16

Pearl no need to reimburse me but thank you for offering x
My skin is a nightmare lol, naturally sensitive/reactive, combination and dehydrated with a lot of texture.

SallieSallow · 14/08/2018 18:31

Another Vichy 89 fan here, I wasn't keen to try it at first as I'd not got on with the Vichy liftactiv but people here persuaded me and I love it now.

Cutesy I use tinted frezyderm, I apply it in two thin layers leaving a few minutes in between and don't find it goes cakey, but I do like fairly full coverage.

Bluebell9 · 15/08/2018 12:06

Pupsie/Bo/Sallie do you use the Vichy 89 as a toner or serum?

Pupsiecola · 15/08/2018 12:08

Bluebell I use it as a serum.

SallieSallow · 15/08/2018 18:31

Serum here too Bluebell

SophieLion · 16/08/2018 08:56

Hi Cutsey, when I tried samples of the tinted version, I also found that I had to put on quite a bit to ensure the coverage I normally get from a sunscreen. It wasn't for me (but I don't normally use foundation etc so was not used to that kind of product on my skin during the day).

Hi Bluebell, I also use the Vichy 89 as a serum (not sure how it could be used as a toner?)

Pupsiecola · 16/08/2018 11:46

My GOW cleanser is here.

I'm feeling a bit disillusioned with Dr Sam lol. I saw on IG that she just bought a new handbag for over 2k. She clearly works hard, so why shouldn't she. But coupled with the post here about someone's experience of her practice, it's just made me think a bit differently. Which is no bad thing.

Tsmummy08 · 16/08/2018 13:26

Pupsie I'm thinking about the GOW too as my LRP cleanser is finally running out... plus the HA to replace my Vichy 89. The GOW vit C is OK but I really wish Space NK would get a move on with stocking DE!

Biologifemini · 16/08/2018 13:42

There is nothing of note in the dr Sam cleanser. I am sure it will remove make up, as any solvant will. But I don’t imagine it will be all that effective on pores.

Pupsiecola · 16/08/2018 13:53

TS I'll let you know how I find it. It's quite a small bottle. I agree re DE! I've been using it since we got back from holiday last Friday (didn't take it so didn't use it for 2 weeks). Definitely noticing a difference. I love it.
