Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

I'm about to run out of my Kiehl's hydrating toner, maybe I'll get the Vichy 89 again, I quite enjoyed it last time round and only didn't RP because I got the Kiehl's for free. Thanks for reminding me, Pupsie.

Not tried the cleanser from GoW but had spotted it as it contains the illustrious decyl glucoside that does seem to keep the pores clear better than other surfactants.

In the US you seem to be able to order a set of several trial sized cleansers via the GOW website; great idea!

botemp · 10/08/2018 08:56

The GoW sold at VH are different formulations though, or do you mean they sell a trial set of cleansers of other brand cleansers?

Pupsiecola · 10/08/2018 10:51

It was on the GOW site Bo so I imagined just GOW.

I'm shocked at Mike Ashley buying House of Fraser. The Guildford store is one of my favourite shops. Better than our local John Lewis.

I was asking about buying Cosrx in the UK. I work for a start up and we sell private label goods (our own goods) on Amazon (and our own website). I'm considering selling either my own (simple) product or something else. I have a lot of expertise now in selling on Amazon from a marketing and logistics perspective. As a sideline product we sell a sports towel. Very simple. One colour. It's the best seller and makes £60k profit per year. So I'm thinking of something similar.

Île de Ré - I've been there too, it's lovely. Went with the family when I was an au-pair. Sadly the beaches was wasted on me at the time (I was so fat you see, much too fat for a swimsuit I really wasn't, fucking insecurities ) but it was gorgeous.

botemp · 10/08/2018 12:14

Like I mentioned before, Pupsie, CosRX used to be available on Amazon and then it was all removed from one day to the next. I don't know how it works with Amazon but I assume brands have some sort of sway, I know many cosmetic companies negotiate exclusive contracts for specific regions with retailers. I suspect that may very well be the case when it comes to CosRX. I know there were several kbeauty upstarts through the AB Reddit, none were ever really successful though as the cost of import just made them uncompetitive price wise and the predominant interest in kbeauty is the low low prices.

Cosrx: Beauty and Seoul, Skinholic, Bits and Bobs of Beauty are a few Uk suppliers.

Pupsiecola · 10/08/2018 12:37

They look great Olli!

Hope you had a good trip Pupsie. Always good to be in your own bed.

Pupsiecola · 11/08/2018 08:04

Yes thanks Enid. It was fabulous. Wishing is not signed up for a yoga weekend though! It's not my thing but a friend is running it with her sister. And I do try to do things which aren't very comfortable for me, just to challenge myself. I'm not saying overnight as it's only 50 minutes away, but I could do without 2 X 10 until 5.30 days. And I think I'm fighting a cold.

Pupsiecola · 11/08/2018 08:05

*Wish I'd not. Just woken up. Soooo sleepy.

Tsmummy08 · 11/08/2018 09:36

Good luck on your yoga weekend Pupsie, I enjoy yoga but wouldn't be v enthusiastic after getting back from a holiday/long road trip! Fucking seagulls woke me up at 5.30 tap dancing on the roof, so also v sleepy and not looking forward to my scheduled at home HIIT....

Ollivander84 · 11/08/2018 13:16

JDSTER · 11/08/2018 14:42

ts I also had seagulls tap dancing at 5.30am Hmm

I like those spinny things oli.

I’ll keep an eye on that cleanser from GoW, since you’ve highlighted bo the decyl glucoside, and purchase some next time I do a VH order.

Pupsiecola · 12/08/2018 10:55

So it's either Dr Sam's cleanser or the Claris oil giving me spots. Shall I take bets?! I think it's the cleanser Confused. How can this be with a rinse off product?

SophieLion · 12/08/2018 11:32

From my own experience with products and spots Pupsie, I would say an oil is more likely to cause spots than a cleanser (if it's a cleanser which rinses off and doesn't leave any residue on the skin and is also not a foaming one). I've not used either of the products you mention though.

NiceUnusualDifferent · 12/08/2018 11:40

I think the cleanser gave me spots too Pupsie

EnidButton · 12/08/2018 13:19

What has the oil got in it Pups?

I have a patch of lumpy bumpy spots on my temple and side of forehead. Unusual and not a type I usually get. I've eaten dairy for the first time in ages, could be that but seems unlikely. Besides I bloody love Greek yogurt.
