Never mind the (never ending summer) how does one look expensive in Autumn?

Followed the summer thread and really enjoyed it but now I want to get prepared for Autumn.

I love the idea of swanning about in a Burberry type mac but neither the style nor the colour suits me.

How can I look effortless throughout Autumn especially when it's days of wet weather?

I can't wait for A/W, my favourite seasons. Planning to up my game this year and try and combine style and warmth, instead of just going practical. I really struggle to look ok at the weekend and just shroud myself in ugly practical layers to watch the dc do outdoor pursuits.

I've ordered these boots stompy boots to wear with a Joules brown gilet and furry bobble hat, I've yet to purchase.

I've also picked up a few things in the sales, black leather ankle boots and a fake leather skirt.

Determined to do it better this year, still stuck on how to look ok when it's raining though.

Alexindisguise · 11/08/2018 23:03

I won't turn the boots down as much as on the link..

Rollerbird · 12/08/2018 08:45

I like the boots!

BangingOn · 12/08/2018 09:38

I think they key to looking halfway decent in the rain is a good coat, it doesn’t matter what you have underneath if your coat isn’t stylish. A really lovely, properly waterproof coat is hard to find though!

Alexindisguise · 12/08/2018 09:50

Especially with a hood! Does anyone have any suggestions?

HalfStar · 12/08/2018 10:03

joining this thread please! 5'2 and usually size 8 but still have some extra poundage after dc3 who is 5 months.

All of my A/W pre-preg stuff is waiting to be unpacked and I don't like a lot of it anymore Confused. I am itching to buy some capsule wardrobe bits. I'm breastfeeding but so over buying special clothes for that.

I've never bought from Uniqlo before but want to buy these in red, dark grey, navy, and dark green. I'm sure that's too many but I just love all of those colours.

What trousers are people going to be wearing for WFH/SAH/weekend/smart casual? I feel like some high waist sturdyish denim widelegs might be a good bet, but footwear can be tricky...The thought of wearing skinny jeans again makes my skin crawl.

For anyone interested in a long slouchy cardigan, I saw this on the Uniqlo site too wool coat it does look a bit Voluminous though.

For properly waterproof coats: Didrikson. Omg. I had one for 6 years and have never had anything as waterproof. However mine is now battered and a bit ugly/frumpy tbh, zip broken etc. They aren't cheap so I'd have to think hard before I allowed myself to re-invest.

3stonedown · 12/08/2018 12:37

@Alexindisguise protect species have rain coats with hoods that are stylish but too £££ for my budget!

BagelGoesWalking · 12/08/2018 13:50

Re. cardigans, I got something similar to this last year in navy and grey. They did to a bit bobbly but quite good for around the house.

Alexindisguise · 12/08/2018 14:38

Thanks I'll take a look at the coat suggestions, although I think they'll probably be out of my budget too.

LuxuryWoman2018 · 12/08/2018 15:24

Please, please if anyone spots a tobacco/sherry coloured coat please let me know! I'll obviously keep searching.

Ellapaella · 12/08/2018 15:37

@LuxuryWoman2018 this one in next any good? https://www.next.co.uk/g6770s5#398706

LuxuryWoman2018 · 12/08/2018 15:43

Now that's the colour Ellapaella I'm looking for single breasted mid length of the kind M & S used to be good at. Might try the next one on though.

Sometimes I get an item in my head that doesn't actually exist but my search pulled up the perfect one from Whistles via Google but unfortunately from last year I think. Which makes me wonder if a look on eBay might turn one up - aha! I'll look.

Ellapaella · 12/08/2018 16:30

@LuxuryWoman2018 I'm the same. I get an idea in my head of what I want and it's like an itch I have to scratch.. except it may not actually exist exactly as I imagine! Good luck hunting.

Oddbutnotodd · 12/08/2018 16:41

Protected species have 40% off coats until the end of today so £135 rather than £225. There’s a link running on here and they do a dark red and a brownish one.

Ellapaella · 12/08/2018 16:45

@LuxuryWoman2018 there is also this one in Zara although it's double breasted. https://m.zara.com/uk/en/double-breasted-coat-p08025744.html?v1=7094648&v2=1074589

LuxuryWoman2018 · 12/08/2018 16:49

I like the Zara one, it's a pity it looks shapeless on the model but I'll think about that one. I'll go to about 150.00 for the right one so I'll have a look at protected species.

Dark cream bag with that colour coat? Or black high shine?

Rollerbird · 12/08/2018 17:14

alexindisguise ilse jacobsen soft shell rain jacket

Ellapaella · 12/08/2018 17:34

Probably cream would work best.

3stonedown · 12/08/2018 21:36

I like that zara coat. I find everything looks shapeless on the model but the stuff in real life is much better

SpeckledyHen · 13/08/2018 06:21

I like the Zara coat a lot .Love the colour .

SpeckledyHen · 13/08/2018 06:23

Toying with buying a vintage Burberry trench on eBay and shortening it to above the knee . What do you think ?

3stonedown · 15/08/2018 08:06

speckledyhen I think that's a great idea. Something I've been thinking of doing it myself but waiting til I've lost more weight (not investing in anything at he moment) and I think I'll have to find a tailor as my skills are limited to sewing buttons on

Ellapaella · 15/08/2018 14:46

@LuxuryWoman2018 another one! https://www.hush-uk.com/m/womenswear/daywear/jacketscoats/anyaalongcoattchestnut.htm

mrslebon · 15/08/2018 15:18

@LuxuryWoman2018 - how about this one from Topshop?

www.topshop.com/en/tsuk/product/new-in-this-week-2169932/new-in-fashion-6367514/relaxed-coat-7936055

LuxuryWoman2018 · 15/08/2018 15:56

That hush one is a definite possible, the Topshop one might not be the shape I'm after. I want something a little fitted and defined. Thank you both!
