Never mind the (never ending summer) how does one look expensive in Autumn?

Followed the summer thread and really enjoyed it but now I want to get prepared for Autumn.

I love the idea of swanning about in a Burberry type mac but neither the style nor the colour suits me.

How can I look effortless throughout Autumn especially when it's days of wet weather?

I didn't get these last year and are happy they seem to be available again. I feel like some slightly "stompy" boots but not DMs so I think these will fit the bill.

Sadly the jigsaw trench didn’t suit me, it was too big and very much the wrong colour. Beautifully made though. The search continues.

EnidButton · 06/08/2018 00:26

Really like those Bagel! Apparently lace up flat boots will be around a lot this A/W. I love the look anyway so they're on my list.

EnidButton · 06/08/2018 00:27

Oh no Cherries, how disappointing. Early days though so I'm sure you'll find The One.

BagelGoesWalking · 06/08/2018 00:42

Right, Enid? I was so annoyed that I didn't press the button last time so I'm determined to get them now. We can stomp together 😬

QueenOfIce · 06/08/2018 11:40

I found a pair of Emu Chelsea boots I like, all sheepskin lined and waterproof perfect for winter but I can't get over how they treat the sheep to get the wool.

I've looked at vegetarian shoes for this year but there's nothing I like, however if anyone likes Dr Maarten they do vegan boots now apparently.

Also I think I'd like a mulberry/burgundy cocoon cardigan this year if there's any about.

M&S shorts style knickers]]. Comfiest ever knicks I have ever had....
I would like some new knee boots this year and some jumpers. Quite like this from Baukjen but not sure about the Mary Berry vibe. Also fancy a few bits from White Company but they don't seem to have all their new stock in yet.

EnidButton · 06/08/2018 13:45

blody Totally forgot I'd asked about those, thought you were being psychic! 'How does she know I need new knickers?' 🤔 Grin Thank you, I'll check those out. They do look a bit like they'd go up my bum though but I'll try them. Brew

blodynmawr · 06/08/2018 13:54

Enid I always size up when buying knicks to ensure general comfort and allow for laundry related shrinkage... I have a massive arse and am happy to report the M&S ones these have stayed put Grin.

QueenOfIce · 06/08/2018 14:02

Tesco Brazilian no vpl in a pack of 5 are also really comfortable and I normally wear low rose shorts.

QueenOfIce · 06/08/2018 14:02

Rise not rose 🙄

Are you all short and petite on this thread? I would love to look ahead to autumn. I am tall and a bigger lady love bright colours but due to being early 50’s I often overheat so would like some tips for looking good probably involving layers, natural fabrics if your 6ft tall and a size 18-20 without a massive budget.

EnidButton · 06/08/2018 14:23

Thanks Queen, will look at those too. Blody that sounds promising then Grin I always size up in knickers and pj bottoms.

QueenOfIce · 06/08/2018 14:42

Waltz I'm 5ft 7, no waist longish legs a size 14 on the bottom 14/16 on top. Definitely not petite!

OP posts:
Waltzingmatilda65 · 06/08/2018 14:47

That’s promising I found a few saying they were petite and 5ft 3 further down the thread. I am 6ft and an 18 20 so larg my reliant on Long Tall Sally for jeans trousers and dresses for etc.

JudgeRulesNutterButter · 06/08/2018 14:53

Bagel are you me? I nearly bought those boots last year but I have a tendency to over-buy black boots and have nothing else useful like trainers or sandals, so I resisted. This year I shall get them Grin

Are over-the-knee boots still in?

Also, anyone have any recommendations for a comfy but not hideous slouchy cardi type thing? I threw out all mine and I spent last winter wearing a ratty old jumper of DH’s as my extra indoor layer. I need something new and cosy and hopefully not completely unattractive.

QueenOfIce · 06/08/2018 15:56

A friend of mine had a lovely duster cardigan she's a curvy lady and looked so nice in it. She bought it from Kim & Co I think from QVC but she tells me Join clothing on there is also very flattering.

blodynmawr · 06/08/2018 16:05

Judge I have a similar need for a long cardi. Quite like the hooded one in White Company here but it doesn't get a good review and is already low stock in most sizes. Monsoon also a possibility but not sure I want to pay that much for knitwear that is only 10% wool.

blodynmawr · 06/08/2018 16:19

Waltz I am 5'7'' size 16/18 with G cup norks, so sometimes need a 20 in tops and coats depending on the style. Plus I have some size 14 in my wardrobe due to vanity sizing of some shops Confused.

Judge Forgot to suggest Celtic for cardi possibilities. Not all their A/W stock seems to be online yet though.

BagelGoesWalking · 06/08/2018 20:29

JudgeRules I'm not good about spending on myself. But I will get these, as my beloved Clark's Orinoco are really looking tired. Had them at least 3 years 😂 I have the same in brown but black are a must. I imagine myself with slightly rolled up jeans, slouchy looking grey jumper and big scarf à la Parisienne. (I can dream).

I need new jeans too - what does everyone like? Not £70 ones. I did get a pair of Levi's a while back but they're far too stretchy and the waist to crotch is too long so they sag very quickly.

AWHereWeCome · 07/08/2018 07:49

So glad to have found this thread, I love autumn in every way - especially the clothes! Lots of great ideas on this thread already and I've enjoyed looking at the suggestions and dreaming of cooler days and wrapping myself up cosy and warm.

I've created myself a list, if anyone has suggestions on any of these I'd be very grateful:

A wool coat - I completely failed to find the right one last year. I think a slightly fit and flare style would suit me best. I'm 5'1" and belted styles look like a dressing gown on me, anything too unstructured looks like a sack (which is annoying as I love both those styles on other people). Preferably grey or navy, definitely not black.

A leather jacket - biker style, again grey or navy and suitable for short arms! All the ones I've tried on have sleeves that completely cover my hands and would be difficult to get shortened due to zips.

DM boots - though @BagelGoesWalking I love the ones you linked to so may stomp around with you in those!

I already have a leather skirt which I bought in the sale last year. I haven't really worn it yet and need to work out how to style it, but I love it and can't wait to wear it Smile

For those of you looking for brown boots, I have the dune Bertie boots (the ones with the buttons) in brown. They're more a dark tan than chestnut. I love them (though they may be too fussy for some people's style)

Waltzingmatilda65 · 07/08/2018 15:14

I am 6ft tall size 20 and I want some jeans in a size 20 that are long enough (34/35 inside leg) and won’t stop my circulation (I also have chunky legs).
A pair of navy jeans or navy trousers as above to go with the top in the photo below.
Also a plain navy 3/4 sleeve casual loose top that can be dressed up with chunky jewellery or down with a scarf in a cool fabric (as I often over heat even in autumn and winter) in a size 20.
Also a jacket in a 20 that has long enough in the sleeve. I like the style of Barbour jackets but don’t have a stockist nearby or a leather jacket or failing those a smart looking not too heavy navy cardigan/jacket. Any ideas or suggestions.

IwankaTramp · 07/08/2018 17:31

Waltz Next denim leggings or high waist enhancer are flattering and not restrictive. They do an XL length too.

Clothes wise try POETRY, Pure Collection and White Company for other stuff.

Jaeger is excellent for coats.

SpeckledyHen · 11/08/2018 13:31

Thank you Ella for the heads up on the Hobbs trench - apart from needing to shorten the sleeves it is perfectly. Great quality and very flattering too .

Ellapaella · 11/08/2018 13:55

Ah that's great @SpeckledyHen - glad you like it.
