Never mind the (never ending summer) how does one look expensive in Autumn?

Followed the summer thread and really enjoyed it but now I want to get prepared for Autumn.

I love the idea of swanning about in a Burberry type mac but neither the style nor the colour suits me.

How can I look effortless throughout Autumn especially when it's days of wet weather?

Lovely trench midlife I've ordered it, thanks for sharing.

Dancergirl · 31/07/2018 12:16

foxtiger I'd love a pair of chestnut brown boots, do you have any recommendations please? I never know what length boots to go for these days!

Nearlyadoctor · 31/07/2018 14:04

Dancergirl DuBarry Clare boots are fabulous. I have them in the walnut ( so not quite chestnut) . Otherwise highly recommend Fairfax and Favor boots.

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 31/07/2018 15:13

Looks like we now have a Mumsnet trench - at least we'll all recognise each other!

Dancergirl · 31/07/2018 17:45

Not keen on DuBarry Clare boots, bit too clumpy looking. And Fairfax and Favor are out of my price range. I might look at Gabor.

SpeckledyHen · 31/07/2018 18:28

I tried the Jigsaw trench yesterday :) It was the perfect colour and lovely heavy fabric , but I wasn’t keen on the concealed buttons or the very long belt . In addition the sleeves were too long , which is normal for me , so I didn’t go for it .

The search is on for a similar one but in a petite range if anyone has any suggestions ?

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 31/07/2018 18:31

I have Neanderthal Arms so it was great for me!

Massimo Dutti worth a look (my answer to everything) and M & S has some nice ones in more traditional colours.

SpeckledyHen · 31/07/2018 18:32

I got a lovely pair of tan boots from Carvela to replace a beloved pair of Steve Madden boots from a couple of seasons ago . They aren’t as instantly comfortable as the SMs but should be OK fingers crossed.

SpeckledyHen · 31/07/2018 18:34

I envy you Midlife :) Thank you for the suggestions - off to have a look ......:)

Dancergirl · 31/07/2018 18:36

midlife and speckledyhen can the Jigsaw trench be worn without the belt?

SpeckledyHen · 01/08/2018 05:43

No Dancer I don’t think that it would work . The belt is attached to the coat at the back by a button and loop . From memory I also think there were belt loops .?

LanaorAna2 · 01/08/2018 14:03

Thing about Burberry trenches is to get the iconic one for you, not the seasonal one. They do millions of colours and style variations on yer basic mac.

You pick the beige that doesn't kill your face off and the one with the details that don't make you look fat. Well, I do.

The one that suits me looks like a Dannimac in the 70s, so I've perked it up with an elderly Hermes scarf instead of a belt.

I shan't be spending much but will be going for blazing bright midi pleated skirts - orange, chevrons, you name it - not on the same skirt - with very plain trainers and neutral ie no-brainer everything else. Sick of jeans.

DULLDull · 01/08/2018 17:55

I have bought these black ankle boots from ecco. www.eccoshoesuk.com/ecco-shape-35/p5652 they are quite smart so will be good for day and evening.

I really want some brown wedge heel casual boots. Maybe ankle or preferably calf length.

A stylish waterproof coat (is that possible) and a camel coat with a diaganol zip.

Ellapaella · 01/08/2018 21:59

De-lurking as A/W is my favourite time for buying clothes.
I don't need an awful lot this year (famous last words..) but I will definitely be getting some DocMartens, new black skinny jeans and a charcoal grey wool coat. I also really like the style of Ash Jalouse boots (very dated now I know) so will be on the lookout for similar but cheaper.
A colourful scarf to brighten up all the black and grey will also be something I look for.

EnidButton · 01/08/2018 22:59

I like that Ella. Good shape. I'm never sure about that shade of green on me, it should work as it's very similar to my eye colour but it looks a bit odd. I'm always attracted to it though. Maybe if I pop a bit of bronzer on...

Dancergirl · 01/08/2018 23:26

Can I have your opinions on these boots please:

DULLDull · 02/08/2018 06:49

I like those

Ellapaella · 02/08/2018 07:58

They are nice classic boots dancer - lovely.

3stonedown · 02/08/2018 09:18

Ahh yay I didn't realise we already had this thread.

I am need of:
Brown boots, usually have a heel, not sure if I want ankle of knee high yet.
Black wool coat
Trench coat
Some black, navy and cream jumpers

Tan bags still work in the autumn don't they?

I have a nice leather midi shirt already, but I really struggle to style it. I think because I am blonde and quite hourglass it looks a bit too much.

Dancergirl · 02/08/2018 10:36

Thank you dull and ella I'm just not sure whether to go for knee high boots - you can't wear them with jeans can you?

Maybe a calf boot would be more practical?

Dancergirl · 02/08/2018 10:36

3stone have a look at Jigsaw for coats - they have some in the sale.

QueenOfIce · 02/08/2018 14:25

Dancer I have similar from Gabor have lasted years and are so so comfortable. I wear them with skinny jeans, leggings, regular bootcut jeans and they look great.

I hear patent is in this year??!

OP posts:
evilharpy · 03/08/2018 07:02

Dancergirl I wear knee boots with skinny jeans all through autumn and winter. I do have a couple of pairs of calf boots but very rarely wear them as they just don't look as good.

Speaking of knee boots. I'm tempted by these from SimplyBe. I have them in tan from last year and they're lovely, super soft leather and very comfy, and so so cheap, but is this colour a bad idea?

LuxuryWoman2018 · 05/08/2018 14:05

Tobacco!! Tobacco is the colour coat I'm looking for if anyone spots one. I need mid length in pref wool/cashmere mix and single breasted.

I'd love patent to be in, I think patent boots (as long as not a single mark) can look fabulous.
