Seeing as the Spencer wedding thread in S&B was so popular, here's a thread to discuss all royal fashion.

(If we could stick to critiquing the clothes rather than the women wearing them then that would be great!)

I’m joining the thread to report my daughter’s comments on royal style - she thinks they should all go more full Louis XIV on us, who else can wear mad clothes but royalty? Why do they have to be so prim and proper? Nay, something between Capitol fashions (Hunger Games reference) and cosplaying a Tudor court she thinks. Grin

And I have to add since we’re talking Swedish RF here that one Big Thing here was that Sofia wore a folk costume from the area she was born in to her son’s christening.

www.elle.se/sofia-klader-prins-gabriels-dop/

The region she’s from have very specific clothing that is worn for holidays and other special occasions. Every village almost is different and it’s super important to wear it correctly (I have a colleague from the same region who confirmed, approvingly, that not one stitch was out of place Grin). That she wore this to the christening was a statement of regional pride.

OlennasWimple · 09/07/2018 22:25

I like that banivani, re Sofia

The wedding cake is a traditional thing, though I thought it was only normally the top tier that got saved for the first baby. (Maybe when your wedding cake is as big as their's, there is more to save?)

noseoftralee · 09/07/2018 22:25

Yes to whoever upthread asked if Pippa’s BIL’s wife is a reality telly star. Her name is Vogue Williams and she used to be married to Bryan McFadden. (But she saw sense and left him). And she’s a qualified quantity surveyor. facts

QueenoftheAndals I agree re eating 7 year old wedding cake, couldn’t they have got a christening cake!

Pippa seems to have lost her mojo but I think Carol is great.

SleepingStandingUp · 09/07/2018 23:05

Its, traditional to save tier of wedding cake for the christening, you just freeze it. It's not that odd, although I do think carrying it on for more than 1 kid os commitment. How many did she save????

user1457017537 · 09/07/2018 23:12

But are you supposed to freeze anything for 7 years

Whitesea · 09/07/2018 23:23

Her children won't look dated as such, because the clothes that George and Charlotte (and presumably Louis) wear could have been worn at any point in the last 100 years

They do look dated, they look like caricatures of old fashioned kids. Who, other than George, has worn those clothes in the last thirty years and even then it was only his father and uncle!

SleepingStandingUp · 09/07/2018 23:51

I think Charlotte always looks adorable and whilst I'm not s fan of shorts til puberty for boys I think there's only the odd outfit for George that has gone... kooky. Like his christening outfit for Charlotte to match his Dad

catinboots9 · 09/07/2018 23:56

The children look like Victorian ghosts

Really? George's shirt is a bit retro (1950s I would have said, not in the least victorian) but Charlotte was wearing what most little girls of that age would wear to a summer christening where I am - in the US - a smocked summer dress and a hairband.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/07/2018 00:07

Charlotte basically owns the same style dress in the colours with matching shoes!
Anyhow, I don't think this type of dress is partic old fashioned. It's a fairly benign style. George is shorts and shirts is def old fashioned but I'm sure his school is shorts til puberty too so it's def a class thing to make the boys have cold knees. Shirts and jumpers for formal events isn't that unusual for any age.
He's also photographed in shorts and t-shirt for non formal stuff.

I'm sure they own leggings and slippy tshirts etc for away from the camera

Charlotte is a pistol! I do feel a pang that these are Diana's grandchildren.
I like Meghan's look but the cut somehow makes her look wide and stumpy. Why was she carrying gloves?
Kate looks so happy despite the dreadful headdress.

pallisers · 10/07/2018 01:12

Charlotte is to blue smocked dresses with matching shoes what her mother is to cream coat dresses with nude heels!

If I went to a christening in the US today, the boys of George's age would be wearing the same as him except with a polo shirt or possibly an actual shirt and the girls would be wearing pretty much exactly what Charlotte wore.

halfwitpicker · 10/07/2018 01:36

I just can't believe how much pippas hubby has aged. Since last year I swear he's aged 20 years

halfwitpicker · 10/07/2018 01:39

I do not think they could all have broken the mould a bit at the christening, they all look dull

evilharpy · 10/07/2018 06:43

If you go to Spain the children’s clothes shops are full of George/Charlotte style clothes. Although possibly more for slightly younger children. I think they look lovely.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 10/07/2018 06:45

I actually think Kate's dress is more fashionable than she's given credit for. It's obviously vintagey looking but I think it's interesting and less boring than Duchess of Sussex's dress (though I do think she looks beautiful). And the headdress is wonderful.

I also thought she looked great at the Trooping of the Colour though, and she got fairly slated for that. I just think it's a really elegant cut.

I agree the children look formal, but I don't think it's too over the top. My ds1 is the same age as George and I would put him in something very similar for a wedding.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/07/2018 10:09

I liked the neckline on Kate's cream dress but I'd like to see what the whole outfit looks like without several metres of christening robe obscuring it!

And in Germany the children wear Lederhosen for occasions. It doesn’t matter what Spanish kids wear, the Royal Family are not Spanish!

lifechangesforever · 10/07/2018 10:16

Meghan's dress is stunning!

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/07/2018 10:23

It's confirmed that both the Cambridges and the Sussexes will be attending today's RAF celebrations.

They arrived over half an hour ago, when I posted about Meghan's dress - although it does look like I was posting as a continuation of yesterday!

She likes a slight shoulder show - suits her perfectly. Kate looks lovely too, prefer today's coat to yesterday's dress.

Camilla always looks wonderful, no change today.

TSSDNCOP · 10/07/2018 11:02

Meghan’s dress today is really lovely, like the black with nude shoes.

Catherine looks great and very elegant, but not stop traffic.

Whitesea · 10/07/2018 11:08

Harry looks as proud as punch. Meghan looks stunning.

Kate is mother of the bride as usual.

Whitesea · 10/07/2018 11:20

Camilla’s dress also looks lovely.
