Seeing as the Spencer wedding thread in S&B was so popular, here's a thread to discuss all royal fashion.

(If we could stick to critiquing the clothes rather than the women wearing them then that would be great!)

Guy Pelly? Interesting choice, quite a character

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/07/2018 11:42

As usual the Express have put their own spin on the choices for godparents. I highly doubt Meghan imagined for one second that she'd be chosen!

Re Diana, I wonder how she would've coped with 2 attractive daughters-in-law who took the spotlight from her? By all accounts, she wasn't big on sisterhood. Aren't there stories about her sitting in silence in Will and Julia Carling's lounge and then bursting into chatter the moment Julia left the room? And then there was her dislike of Tiggy Legge-Burke.

Yes but they were rivals to Diana. Surely she would have wanted her sons to be happy. However, I think life has probably been calmer since her passing.

Clionba · 09/07/2018 11:48

I agree with you, Queen. Diana was notoriously flirty with men and cool with women. She may have struggled with two attractive daughters in law who are the centre of attention. When Sophie came into the family she was neither helpful nor welcoming. She could be very cutting about other women's weight and appearance. There were many positives, but she was no saint.

Laiste · 09/07/2018 11:58

I think that given that had she lived Diana would have been gone from the royal family for a long long time by now and followed her own path in life, she would have mellowed a little and not seen incoming royals as rivals any more.

I'm a closet Diana fan. It is sad that she's not part of her boys lives any more. She was a fascinating public figure too.

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/07/2018 11:58

Diana might've seen Meghan and Kate as rivals for the most important men in her life though - her sons!

But William said last year in an interview that if she was still around she would’ve loved Kate and he knew her better than any of us so…

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/07/2018 11:58

@Clionba Apparently Diana regarded Sophie as rather plain and negligible and it annoyed her no end that people said they resembled each other!

Laiste · 09/07/2018 11:59

My first sentence was garbled. I hope you know what i mean. She'd have been off the royal roundabout for ages by now. Hopefully a more calm and peaceful soul than she was year ago in the thick of it.

Laiste · 09/07/2018 12:00

years

Clionba · 09/07/2018 12:02

Yes! She thought her short and plain and hated the comparisons. I think it's a pity that she offered no support, considering her own problems going in to that family. Imagine telling Sophie that if she wed Edward that it would never last!

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/07/2018 12:13

There were rumours about him for years but Edward is the one child of the Queen who seems to have got his marriage right the first time around!

I can so imagine Louis being a playboy Prince & George being the sensible one. Louis will be falling out of Mahiki with a supermodel on each arm.

It's Charlotte we need to watch!! She already loves the camera whereas George has always seemed very shy - its hard because he isn't the one they can hide from publicity.
You rarely see James apparently because he doesn't like it whereas his sister seems quite comfy being Sophie's mini-me - which is fine because they aren't significant royals.

George will have to learn to deal with it but I reckon Charlotte will be the ine falling out of Makiki!!

halfwitpicker · 09/07/2018 15:26

Charlotte is definitely the one to watch.

An interest in fashion and working the paps? She'll be running Mahiki!

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/07/2018 15:28

It really is noticeable how much Charlotte loves the spotlight with her waving and smiling, whereas George always seems so reserved. I don't think it's an age thing either - he's always been like that. Poor kid, if you are reserved (as I suspect the Queen is) then it must be such a struggle if your job almost solely involves meeting people and making small talk. I mean, obviously not that much of a struggle as you live in the lap of luxury, but for an introvert to have to constantly force themselves to be an extrovert must be hard.

OP posts:
halfwitpicker · 09/07/2018 16:11

Yes, Queen, she really does seem to love the attention. Obviously a social little butterfly. As you say George is more reserved (Like William, I do think he has to force it more)

Cornwall73 · 09/07/2018 16:21

It’s gone 4pm, no news about the christening? Didn’t we see the arrival at the church with Prince George? No coverage for Prince Louis? Or do we just get to see them leave?

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/07/2018 16:30

There's a short video on KP's Twitter feed. Kate and Camilla in cream and Meghan is in olive. Kate's hat looks like Anne Boleyn's headdress!

OP posts:
pallisers · 09/07/2018 16:39

Kate will be in white or cream. Coat dress and hat with a flower.

you nailed that one

pallisers · 09/07/2018 16:41

If Meghan is there, I suspect back to the beige with boat neckline

And looks like you nailed that one too.

evilharpy · 09/07/2018 16:46

Meghan looks stunning.

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/07/2018 16:59

The olive dress and hat Meghan is wearing looks great from the bit of footage I saw. It's a good colour on her and a nice change from beige. She's definitely reading this thread! Grin

Cornwall73 · 09/07/2018 17:00

Agree, Meghan looks great in olive green. Kate in A McQ again - very predictable. Her hat is very Tudor!

Clionba · 09/07/2018 17:03

Yep, I nailed it! White Alexander McQueen, flowery hat. Kate is nothing if not predictable. I'm glad Megs threw a curve ball with olive green, though!

Whitesea · 09/07/2018 17:04

Kate playing it safe in cream again - YAWN!

SleepingStandingUp · 09/07/2018 17:09

I love Kate's headpiece. Not sure on the matchy matchy blueness
