Seeing as the Spencer wedding thread in S&B was so popular, here's a thread to discuss all royal fashion.

(If we could stick to critiquing the clothes rather than the women wearing them then that would be great!)

Yes but they could just make up any old rubbish! I saw an article recently that claimed there's a rule that potatoes or broccoli aren't ever on the menu at Buckingham Palace!!

Prince George probably got one of his staff to add that Grin

I suspect most of the Royal fashion "rules" are actually what was expected as appropriate attire in a church once upon a time: no bar shoulders, no bare legs, no toes, no cleavage, modest length skirts and a hat

mathanxiety · 06/07/2018 20:16

I wasn't keen on it either, User145 but it was the perfect yellow for her skin tone. It didn't look as if the dress was wearing her, which is what Meghan's dress did. All you saw was the dress.

Quantumblue · 07/07/2018 03:37

Just back from fab Cartier exhibition. Saw jewels from the queen, princess Grace, Duchrss of Windsor and Elizabeth Taylor as well as Kate's wedding tiara.
Turns out clunky old phone does not photograph diamonds well but here are a few samples.

I think the waists are down to corsets. Have strong memories of my grandmother and mother wearing them in the early fifties and the performance that was involved in getting them on and off. I think lacing had given way to hooks and eyes by then but the boning was still there. I have always been so glad that I escaped them.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 07/07/2018 08:21

@Quantumtumble
Is that the exhibition in Paris? I’m going in a couple of weeks. Will definitely visit; thanks for the heads up

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 07/07/2018 08:25

Actually can’t find the exhibition! It was in Paris in 2013 Blush. Where is it now?

Quantumblue · 07/07/2018 08:29

Canberra, Australia!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 07/07/2018 08:31

Those jewels travel!

Laiste · 07/07/2018 08:41

I read somewhere that they are all forbidden to play Monopoly Confused

I like to picture them having secret Monopoly sessions after dark Grin

beanaseireann · 07/07/2018 09:43

User
I also hold my hand up. I have nude wedges. Blush
I really like nude coloured shoes. They elongate my rather short legs.
Sometimes the Queen wears heavy black shoes with pastel coloured coats and hats. Not such a good look.
I dislike nude tights on Meghan and Kate etc.
They have young( ish) legs. There's no need to encase them in a man made sweaty fabric particularly in hot summer weather. They have no leg ulcers/ veins etc to hide (as some women would prefer to do).

paradyning · 07/07/2018 15:35

Amazing pics Quantum. Thanks.
The issue with a nude shoe for MM is that they are Caucasian nude not her skin tone nude so they look a little odd. Same with the tights she wore to the Garden Party.
I didn't think that the Royals could wear peep toes to formal dos either. Same as with showing shoulders.
I'm already slightly amused when people think Kate should dress like Leti who always shows shoulder and toes as there are obviously different 'rules' in Spain. Probably due to the weather! Leti looks absolutely amazing too!

Clionba · 07/07/2018 16:03

Meghan showed shoulder at Trooping the Colour. I've seen Kate in sandals. Maybe these two lasses should go for more rule breaking!

paradyning · 07/07/2018 16:23

I don't think Kate has worn sandals at formal events though.

Clionba · 07/07/2018 16:26

She wore them with that long Roland Mouret dress. Silver platform sandals.
Also to Wimbledon with spotty dress.

paradyning · 07/07/2018 16:37

But they aren't formal occasions

Laiste · 07/07/2018 17:43

Just reading paradynings link and i wonder about the tights at her first outing after the wedding too ('nude' but way too pale for her)

www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/fashion/fashion-news/a20882984/meghan-markle-wore-tights-and-the-internet-went-insane/

So - was it to match the mesh, or was it a muck up?

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/07/2018 17:49

I can't think that she would've thought they matched her skin colour so they must've been to match the mesh instead. There are several brands of tights that do nude shades for all skin tones.

user1457017537 · 07/07/2018 18:36

I agree with the shade of nude and skin tone. Didn’t Christian Laboutin do a Range of nudes for different skin tones, I seem to remember nude, beige and honey tones and a beautiful toffee colour.

halfwitpicker · 07/07/2018 19:17

Those tights look ridiculous.

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/07/2018 19:23

@user1457017537 Falke and Wolford do tights in several different nude shades. I swear by Falke's Shelina ones as they just make it look like you've got good skin. Slightly pricier than M&S but money is hardly an object for Meghan!
