Seeing as the Spencer wedding thread in S&B was so popular, here's a thread to discuss all royal fashion.

(If we could stick to critiquing the clothes rather than the women wearing them then that would be great!)

I'm not sure what Beatrice does but I think Eugenie has a job in a gallery or auction house. Still, I doubt she earns enough to fund her clothes habit, that money will come from Daddy!

I’m really excited about Max visiting in October! Hoping she breaks out the Stuart tiara. Huge and unused for years. I’m also hoping the Aueen might give Meghan the Oriental Circlet that the QM used to wear.....

I may think about this too much.....

EmGee · 04/07/2018 20:34

Carole Middleton looks fab in that cream dress at Wimbledon. Amazing figure.

Watchingthecloudsflyby · 04/07/2018 22:49

Eugenie is worth about 3.7 m in her own right apparently plus no doubt a decent subsidy from Papa and her salary from Hauser & Wirth art gallery as an associate director.

I guess they do "recycle", just away from the paparazzi

Watchingthecloudsflyby · 04/07/2018 22:53

The average Hauser Wirth Salary for Associate Directors is $117,126 per year

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 05/07/2018 02:35

I agree Emgee she looks great.

Just seen this thread, goody! Be back later to offer my most discerning opinion Grin

I love how Princess Mary manages to combine fashion with royal decorum and practicality. This is who MM should really channel in regards to fashion as she ages.

I read that in the early days, Kate based her style on Mary.

I love this thread!!! Grin

October should be an interesting month fashion wise!

If Máxima is visiting as a state occasion then they will all be dressed up for a state dinner. She is just going to be fabulous!

There’s Eugenie’s wedding. I really hope she has Beatrice as maid of honour.
(I think I read somewhere that they all inherited when the queen mother died? Doesn’t make a lot of sense as she had a massive overdraft....
Totally subsided by Andrew, though.

Meghan & Harry in oz, no, Fiji & tongs. I hope she cracks open the colour when she is overseas. I think she will improve her royal style once she grows in confidence in her role. I suspect she has been told to wear less black as she was wearing loads of it just before she got married & looked good. Now she has gone the other way & just wears insipid colours. At louis’s Christening she will be in something pastel. Aargh! Wear some colour woman!

Carole looked ok at Wimbledon. I thought she looked a bit informal next to Michael, who always looks dapper. I would imagine that Prince George will look just like him when he is grown up.

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/07/2018 06:58

@Clionba It's a shame Kate doesn't still base her style on Mary, or even Rania of Jordan who manages to navigate a conservative dress code and still look incredibly chic. Kate's got great raw material - her hair, her figure, her smile - but her style has definitely taken a turn towards the staid and matronly in recent years.

@CurlyWurlyTwirly Yes, I think it'll be pastels all round on Monday but I guess that's fairly standard for a christening.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/07/2018 07:09

Queen, agree that Monday will be all about the pastels.

I feel that Meghan is trying so hard not to make a mistake ( understably) that her whole personality is being reduced to beige. I hope she wears some colour when she goes to the South Pacific. I would love to see her natural hair. Meghan with lovely bouncy curls would be gorgeous!

I agree with you all. Kate does have great raw material and could look stunning and a great advert for maybe small, independent UK brands? I'm thinking like Meghan did with some pieces before the wedding. Now Kate is just in boring blue or pink pastel, those awful coat dresses, looking less stylish as time goes on. Meghan is so pretty, I wish she'd wear a strong colour! I'm already sick of the beige boat neck outfits. Enough!

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/07/2018 07:40

Some of Kate's best looks have come on her overseas tours - Oz/NZ, Far East/Pacific, the first Canada trip, India. As I've said upthread, the brighter colours and relaxed boho vibe of her India wardrobe suited her so well.

In fact, both duchesses have the colouring to suit more vibrant shades and I wish they'd embrace it and leave the beiges and pastels to blondes like Sophie Wessex and Autumn Phillips!

Clionba · 05/07/2018 07:50

If I were Kate, I'd ditch Alexander McQueen and the dozens of boring pastel coat dresses. Look at Rania, Mary, Letizia. Get some small, independent UK brands and promote them. Oh and have some colour!! (Meghan too)

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/07/2018 08:39

Apparently the Queen told Kate to lower her hemlines but there's photos of her at a similar age wearing short dresses! It's easy to forget that she wasn't always the elderly lady in day glo colours - she wore her share of glam outfits back in the day.

OP posts:
Whitesea · 05/07/2018 10:43

I wonder how the story/rumour about the Queen telling Kate to lower her hemlines cane about. If you think about it, the dressmakers would have to be discreet or lose their jobs, the designers wokld sign contracts surely for confidentiality, Kate wouldn’t have said it, the Queen hardly announced it?

Ten years ago, I wore shorter dresses. Since having my second child, I have naturally changed my style and tend to wear longer hemlines. For me, it is because my body shape changed. That wasn’t the reason for Kate but her age is probably a factor, even though she is still young.

petrolpump28 · 05/07/2018 13:11

coat dresses are such a weird thing arent they? A pistachio coloured coat dress.....why would you?

user1457017537 · 05/07/2018 13:59

Are they coat dresses or dress with matching coat? Just looked at Princess Mary and I’m not really feeling it! I do love Carol Middleton though

halfwitpicker · 05/07/2018 14:22

I'm sorry but look how glam these two are!

Adore that blue coat that Rania is wearing.

I think Queen Maxima is my new favourite royal.

MikeUniformMike · 05/07/2018 14:38

£55K for a dress is excessive. There are places in the UK where that would buy you a 2-bed flat or house.

OlennasWimple · 05/07/2018 14:44

Maxima and Willem also have three lovely girls, and it's nice to know that there's going to be another queen in Europe in due course
