Seeing as the Spencer wedding thread in S&B was so popular, here's a thread to discuss all royal fashion.

(If we could stick to critiquing the clothes rather than the women wearing them then that would be great!)

I really like those tan sandals. I'm a sucker for tan sandals though. Not so much with the orange dress however. Maybe something very minimal in the same orange?

Quantumblue · 03/07/2018 07:52

Maxima is a one-off. Love her style and love how much presence she has.

For those who get drawn in by the jewellery, I have to share that on Saturday I am going to see this Cartier exhibition, including some of the Queen's jewellery.

You all need this blog in your lives: 'The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor', featuring tiara Thursdays and much, much more..

I have to disagree with those applauding Fergie's deep blue and navy outfits - I think those colours are very harsh on her and swamp her complexion. She should wear cream, dark green and other green shades including teal, grey blues both dark and light, cinnamon and other 'spice' colours, fuchsia, and even white.

eloisesparkle · 03/07/2018 08:27

I agree Math with you re the 'love' for Fergie's style at H&M's wedding and Ascot ( that curtsy - please please forgive me Queen- mother in law- I do the best curtsy Smile).

Quantumblue · 03/07/2018 11:15

Oh math, that blog is a dangerous wormhole to vanish into.

Oh yes, indeed. And the featured tiara days are definitely my favorite.

pallisers · 03/07/2018 15:11

Thank you Math from the bottom of my heart.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/07/2018 15:16

That's a great blog and covers many royals who don't get much press over here! I like the Ascot fashion awards - the Duchess of Gloucester looks particularly good in an orange shirt dress orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2018/06/royal-fashion-awards-royal-ascot-2018_22.html?m=1

The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendour is my favourite blog! I love Tiara Thursdays and regularly visit the jewel vault!

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/07/2018 16:57

Go Fug Yourself is my favourite. They’re more all celebs rather than just royals, though there is a Royals Round-Up every Friday.

math what mischief, I got so distracted by that blog. Now wanting something tasteful to jazz up my summer clothes like, oh I don't know, a Luxembourg turquoise tiara with matching earrings and necklace.

Watchingthecloudsflyby · 03/07/2018 20:34

Queen Maxina is over for a visit October, perhaps you could wear your new tiara Addams sneak into the palace to meet her 😄

mathanxiety · 03/07/2018 21:10

I probably should apologise Wink

paradyning · 03/07/2018 23:06

Love that blog!

Tortycat · 04/07/2018 01:05

For British royals, where do their budgets come from? I assume they must have a certain funded amount that varies according to status/ number of formal engagements? A pp linked to the cost of Meghans outfits which was extortionate for less than a year. Is Harry subsidising her (must be outstripping her personal income now she's not earning)? I like that Kate wears high end high street a lot and wonder why the rest of them dont do this more

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/07/2018 05:53

I think both Harry and William have large private incomes (in addition to whatever they get from the state) as they inherited Diana's fortune.

Claire Waight Keller looks like she's fast becoming Meghan's Sarah Burton.

Doesn't Charles provide Kate with a clothing allowance too? I assume he'll do the same for Meghan

EmGee · 04/07/2018 08:10

I really admire Kate for this (wearing high end high street / wearing outfits more than once). Princess Anne is another 'frugal' royal; as is the Queen (I think - doesn't she get clothes altered for multiple wear, or am I imagining that?!). It just makes sense, even if they have pots of money. Can't believe how wasteful it is to spend a fortune on clothes and only wear them once. It borders on the immoral Grin

I also like the way Kate and her mum have shared outfits.

Great links to blogs - loved looking at the Swedish royals. I have a Swedish friend (male) who told me how, growing up, he (and practically every male Swede his age) had a huge crush on Madeleine.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/07/2018 08:22

Princess Anne is definitely the queen of rewearing - she regularly crops up in outfits she first wore 30-40 years ago, which is a testament to her exercise routine!

I think Kate is very aware and savvy enough to realise that the Royals tread a fine line with regard to their immense privilege and wealth. I think MM will need to be more aware of the considerable amount she is spending to look good, even if Harry is paying out of his own pocket. I personally thought the £55k dress for their engagement was excessive.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/07/2018 08:46

Yes that was excessive, although I suspect that either she didn't pay full-price or got it gratis as the designer knew they'd get a lot of publicity for their label.

To be fair to MM, she did wear a fair bit of high-end high street stuff during her engagement, but all the events she's attended since she married have had the queen present, so I guess she needed to go designer. Kate tends to only go for high street outfits when she's off-duty or doing engagements on her own. For more high-profile events or anything with the queen she usually chooses designer. Though come to think of it, I can't remember the last time she attended anything in an official capacity while wearing high street. She definitely did it in the early years of her marriage but maybe not so much anymore.

i liked the Reiss dress Kate wore to meet the Obamas. i still think she can carry off high street! I also think 55K on a dress worn once is far too excessive. I would think even Harry's funds will dry up at that rate! Also Beatrice and Eugenie must blow a fortune - no wonder Prince Andrew needs to sell his time!!

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/07/2018 17:13

The Express is creaming itself today over Carole Middleton's legs...

Beatrice and Eugenie must spend an absolute fortune on clothes. They don't repeat, either.
