Seeing as the Spencer wedding thread in S&B was so popular, here's a thread to discuss all royal fashion.

(If we could stick to critiquing the clothes rather than the women wearing them then that would be great!)

I was fascinated with the bit about MM habitually wearing shoes that are too big for her. A well known celeb trick to avoid blisters and bunions apparently. 'Stuffing' the toe leaving room to remove when the feet swell.

Can't imagine how stuffing with tissue or cotton wool to fill up the toe makes it possible to keep them on!? Any shoe a bit too big for me just flips and flops about at the heel and I'd fall flat on my face! Grin

I think MM's going away dress was one of the loveliest dresses i've ever seen. I'm not big on watching celeb fashion but i did a double/treble take at that. (with maybe even an 'oooooh') She Looked AMAZING!

OlennasWimple · 28/06/2018 13:26

it's best not for nannies to wear a uniform out and about as it draws attention to the children being from an affluent family.

I think the game is already up regarding the Cambridges....

SenecaFalls · 28/06/2018 14:43

(Disclaimer - I am writing this wearing mismatched pyjamas with a very old much loved dressing gown.)

It would be interesting to report what we are wearing as we comment on the clothes of these royal folks. When I made that snarky comment about the Norland nanny uniform, I was wearing a soft old t-shirt of my husband's as a night shirt (it's still morning here). It has a picture of a large mouth bass on the front. Smile Still think it's more attractive than that uniform, though.

SleepingStandingUp · 28/06/2018 15:07

That was definitely designed to make the Nanny less attractive to the pervy Husband. Im wearing a long legged purple and white jumpsuit but my spaghetti straps reveal by bra because I'm a style-less hussy

I really do t see the harm at having a giggle at their style choices. The main part of their role is to dress up like peacocks and parade around. If it wasn’t they would all be wearing jeans and T-shirt’s or in their case M&S!

I don’t think you could get a Balmoral on a bus but then they don’t get buses! I love the coach built prams babies look so comfortable in them! My nan was Gypsy though so they are in my blood!

Clionba · 28/06/2018 15:17

Spotless white cotton tunic. Black cotton trousers. (I'm a dentist Smile)

user1457017537 · 28/06/2018 15:17

The Nanny looks very stern doesn’t she!

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/06/2018 15:25

I don't think that nanny wears the uniform when she's out and about with the kids. I've seen other pictures of her where she's dressed fairly normally.

OlennasWimple - I think the game is already up regarding the Cambridges....

Grin

D'y know i was thinking the same thing even as i posted that!

Laiste · 28/06/2018 15:43

Oh - cream block heel sandals, cream straight skirt and (MN horror alert) spaghetti strap vest top in navy.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/06/2018 16:33

Black short-sleeved jumpsuit with leopard print heels to give it a bit of a lift and stop me from looking like I'm on my way to a funeral!

Was Sarah Ferguson quite stylish back in the day? I was too young to take any notice but I don’t remember people talking about her outfits the way they did about Diana’s.

Clionba · 28/06/2018 19:14

No, she never quite got it right. She spent a huge amount on clothes but never quite got her style stride. I think in the early days she struggled with her weight and of course the inevitable comparison with Diana.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/06/2018 19:49

Fergie was an attractive young woman but unfortunately for her the media was fixated on Diana, and kept comparing them and finding her lacking in the looks stakes. I don't think MM will have that problem!

Here’s a retro of Fergie’s clothes
She was full on Sloane in the 80s. I’ll never forget that puffy orange duvet wrap with a black evening dress.

Even she had a sense of humour about it

She’s really got her style sorted out since

I remember when we all wore massive velvet bows in our hair because of Fergie. That was one trend she managed to start!

Fashion in the 1980s was hideous in general and made young women look much older, it was naf. I loved the 1970s though. Princess Margaret dressed beautifully and was very attractive and elegant.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/06/2018 22:43

Her caftans in the Mustique years were amazing too. She retained a certain glamour right up into her sixties. She was only about 70 when she died, no age really when you consider the age her mum and sister got to, but I guess she was more hard-living than they were.

Sorry Fergie retro clothes

SleepingStandingUp · 29/06/2018 00:44

She needs to rehire this stylist

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/06/2018 08:12

She certainly dresses better these days, she looked great at the Sussex wedding and at Ascot the other week. And I always liked her wedding dress better than Diana's.

I read somewhere that Di used to feed the press unflattering stories about Fergie in order to get more positive coverage of herself. If that's true it's quite nasty. But apparently they weren't speaking when she died because Fergie told someone she'd got a verruca after borrowing a pair of Diana's shoes!!!

There were some absolute shockers there re Fergie! In her defence fashion was ugly and no one had heard that less is more, they also ignored Coco Chanel who said when you are leaving look in the mirror and remove something! Fergie looks lovely when she has plain clothes on.

eloisesparkle · 29/06/2018 10:38

I didn't like Fergies outfit at the wedding.
