Seeing as the Spencer wedding thread in S&B was so popular, here's a thread to discuss all royal fashion.

(If we could stick to critiquing the clothes rather than the women wearing them then that would be great!)

Ok maybe I used the wrong word - does Apple not mean you put your weight on your stomach as opposed to bum/legs? She's got mega skinny legs and quite a boxy torso is what I meant. I think she's gorgeous fwiw, but not "curvy".

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/06/2018 06:53

@SleepingStandingUp There's a woman who lives near me who's got one of those prams. I've seen her struggle to get it onto crowded buses or into cafes. It's ridiculous - if you live in a city and take public transport regularly then don't get a Balmoral!

NigellasGuest · 28/06/2018 06:54

I think Harriet is right about Apple shape - I'm a size 8/10 at the moment, and tummy is relatively flat, but any weight I put on goes straight there. I can be 2 stone heavier than my current weight and legs and bum stay the same as they are now. (and boobs remaon flat :(

Doubtless MM will never gain weight like that, so we won't see this phenomenon in her, but it's likely that IF she did, then her inner apple would blossom!

WipsGlitter · 28/06/2018 07:05

I hope MM doesn't wear green in Ireland it's so cheesy.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/06/2018 07:22

I think she probably will though, Kate usually dons a green coat for the St Pat's day event.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 28/06/2018 07:47

And remember when she literally wore a maple leaf on her head (in the form of a hat) in Canada? They don't do subtle!

OP posts:
WipsGlitter · 28/06/2018 07:55

Online but I'm hoping MM might be more subtle!

SleepingStandingUp · 28/06/2018 08:12

QueenOfTheAndals I spend half my life on a bus and the only puerile who have them round here are the gypsy traveller community who then hand trinkets from them. I can assure you I had something from Mothercare that whilst I don't fold up on the bus, at least fits on it. I've still always wanted one to push through a leafy park

I wonder if Eugenie will have all the girls as bridesmaids, I thought she'd be in MmM's wedding party but I guess that would add three more girls

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 28/06/2018 08:19

Gosh green would be better than Meghan’s go to beige.

eloisesparkle · 28/06/2018 08:35

SleepingStandingUp
That picture is hilarious.

Of course Meghan will wear green when she visits Ireland.
Didn't Camilla recently ?
One outfit reminded me very much of the Aer Lingus air hostess uniform colour.

Whitesea · 28/06/2018 08:41

When Camilla was in Ireland, it struck me as odd that she removed her shoes to walk on a beach. Not that unusual you would think except she was wearing tights! Royal tights must be made of stern stuff because if I did that, I’d have ladders running up my legs in seconds!

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/06/2018 08:50

I wonder if Kate realised how ridiculous that christening photo looked - it was so twee, right down to poor George being dressed like the ghost of a little boy who'd died in the Blitz. I think Louis' christening is at Windsor though, so less chance to get the Balmoral out. Charlotte is bound to be on form - she appears to love the attention!

OP posts:
Clionba · 28/06/2018 08:54

That was a ridiculous christening. I don't know what Kate was thinking with this kind of charade. I know she's trying to create images for posterity, but she gets carried away with image. She loves the literal dressing, sometimes it makes me laugh it's so obvious.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/06/2018 09:02

George's christening was far more standard IIRC, and he's the future monarch! Maybe W&K realised they went a bit OTT for Charlotte's and that's why they're back at Windsor on Monday. Perhaps it'll be more low-key.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 28/06/2018 09:10

This is a retrospective of Kate's Wimbledon looks and I think almost all of them are good ones. She does seem to enjoy herself most at sporty events. But she's definitely covered up and lowered her hemlines since her first official appearance - I don't think we'll see her in a short sleeveless dress again, though she still has the figure for it.

OP posts:
Whitesea · 28/06/2018 09:20

Do you think K&W think they looked OTT? I doubt it. Who would dare tell them?
I’d say they are surrounded by yes people and think it was great!

SleepingStandingUp · 28/06/2018 09:20

Her outfit for George's was far more fussy than Charlotte's. Her outfit for Charlotte's looks similar on style to what she'd wear normally.

I get why the procession through with the pram and George dressed up as William was OTT but the fans do love it.

Royal style: Kate/Meghan/Bea/Euj, Maxima/Mary/Letizia/Victoria
QueenOfTheAndals · 28/06/2018 09:35

The outfit was more standard but I was referring to the procession. But I guess all that privilege does seem them totally lacking in self-awareness.

OP posts:
SleepingStandingUp · 28/06/2018 10:27

Queen I meant more re this comment ^I hope Kate dons her full 19th century fancy dress^ rather than the public walk

petrolpump28 · 28/06/2018 11:13

poor George in those 1940's outfits.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/06/2018 11:44

He does wear more normal clothes when he's not at official events. It's not so much that he's dressed like William was (even though he is), he's dressed like Charles was at that age!

Speaking of Charlotte's christening and clothing choices, what about that Norland nanny number? That nanny's uniform might well be the ugliest oddest thing I have seen in a long time. Why would they have her wear that instead of regular clothes? To make sure she is seen to be a servant and not family or a guest? Do you supposed the nanny actually wanted to wear it? It was obviously designed by someone whose brief was "Please come up with something that makes the female body appear as unappealing and invisible as humanly possible."

Laiste · 28/06/2018 12:56

Just had a read of the Norland Nanny web page. The uniform was originally to do with wishing to easily distinguish the professionally trained members of staff in large households.

At a glance at that site i don't think Norland nannies tend to wear the uniform once outside college any more. So i'd say that was all for show at the christening.

Laiste · 28/06/2018 12:58

Also read that these days it's felt it's best not for nannies to wear a uniform out and about as it draws attention to the children being from an affluent family.

Interesting stuff.

Quantumblue · 28/06/2018 13:03

Does anyone else think that Sophie really upped her game when Kate married in? She was really quite frumpy at times.

(Disclaimer - I am writing this wearing mismatched pyjamas with a very old much loved dressing gown.)
