Nor mine, mrsr. I'm still baffled by attempting to pick out notes, most of the time. I don't have the descriptive vocabulary that some of this thread's perfumistas have. And I always thought I was a sharp-greens-and-citruses type when in fact it turns out I'd probably rather wear a cosy vanilla even in the height of summer.

But hey ho, we live and learn Grin

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 16/06/2018 22:18

Just found this thread and it seems like this is the place to ask for expertise - I have found my new favourite smell and I would like to replicate it in perfume form: it's Silent Pool Christmas Spirit gin mist garnish
www.thespiritsbusiness.com/2016/10/silent-pool-to-debut-rye-vodka-and-gin-mist-sprays/

It smells amazing and I would like to smell like that all the time (with or without the juniper gin smell) - I've been researching online and it seems to be flavoured with cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and bergamot or possibly oranges, but it doesn't smell as ridiculously Christmassy as that sounds.

Can anyone recommend any perfumes that include these smells?

UnnecessaryFennel · 16/06/2018 22:31

SOTE is Pillow Talk. Jasmine, earl grey and sandalwood. I don't get the peppery notes at all in this, although I suppose there is a little bit of spice in the background. But on me it's just soft, soothing and delicious.

PestymcPestFace · 16/06/2018 22:37

Elizabeth one of these in the zest and fizz sample pack may do you.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 16/06/2018 22:43

Wow PestyMcPest, that looks completely perfect! I will investigate - thank you so much.

UnnecessaryFennel · 16/06/2018 22:45

Elizabeth, sounds intriguing! A quick search of Fragrantica suggests you might want to give l'Humaniste by Frapin a go - ebay have samples for a fiver. Alternatively Eau de 34 by Diptyque has cinnamon, nutmeg, juniper and citrus so might be worth a try?

It does sound a wee bit like Captured by Candlelight by 4160 Tuesdays might work for you as well, although the booze in that is more brandy than gin Grin

UnnecessaryFennel · 16/06/2018 22:46

Or there's always good old Library of Fragrance Gin and Tonic!

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 16/06/2018 22:55

UnnecessaryFennel thank you - I'm really hoping that one of the ones from the selection pack from Bloom is the one, because they're £10... but I might try to check that one out when I'm a bit richer. The description sounds lovely.

MrsLucas · 16/06/2018 23:12

No Pest - I was sad to find the last of my Gentlewoman had evaporated earlier. Bit too much of a generic soapy clean citrus to be worth a FB, but I did enjoy it very much.

PlausibleSuit · 17/06/2018 08:22

Sorry MrsL, I was out and missed your question. I've not encountered Ungaro Diva before but having investigated it sounds right up my street so I shall see if I can track some down.

La Panthère was a bit of a find. Powerhousey but very likeable. I got a soft, luxurious white flower, some non-sweet fruit and the tiniest hint of mint. A little mossiness on the drydown. Very enjoyable.

positivepineapple · 17/06/2018 08:53

Morning all!

Just got some bargainous leather converse from TK Maxx website, and noticed lots of Acqua di Parma. I personally haven't tried it yet, but I want to and I do hear lots of good things. Still a little expensive for a blind buy but could be worth a nose if you know it.

MrsLucas · 17/06/2018 09:13

Just pondering if I'll get slung out of my yoga class if I turn up in Diva. Might need to join-in a bit later....

Your Converse sound great PP, but I'm not looking!

Plausible - La Panthere sounds good. It's going on my to sniff list. People rave about the Diva from before the nineties reformulation, but that's relatively hard to find. Mines from the noughties and lovely - it's still in production.

PlausibleSuit · 17/06/2018 09:43

I've yet to dive into the world of vintage, MrsL. Never quite know where to look to avoid getting swizzled.

SOTD for my Sunday slightly hungover stagger walk is Mugler A*Men Kryptomint.

mrsreynolds · 17/06/2018 11:18

Sotd 4160 another kiss by the fireside

TeenyFloofyKittensMakeMeCry · 17/06/2018 11:49

We are all so talky Grin

Welcome plausible This is the worst (or best if you prefer Wink) MN thread for weakening financial resolve! It's lethal and wonderful

Welcome Edith are you actually Swedish?

And Elizabeth welcome, I am probably being incredibly stupid, but what is that spray? Is it for adding to drinks, rather than spritzing round the room? Either way, it sounds gorgeous! I bought the Library of Fragrance Gin and Tonic for a joke gift for a gin loving friend a while back, she actually loved it! I think LofF has been discontinued or renamed now?

And welcome wash if you like Neroli Portofino, the Perfume Parlour is a pretty good dupe, I feel it has more of a lavender-y vibe but it's definitely pleasant and summery and miles better value than TF.

(In fact I meant to tell you folks, my DH is slowly being trained as a Perfumista - when I asked him to bring me some perfume to hospital, he selected the PP Neroli P on the basis of lavender helping sleep. I was impressed Grin)

Fennel of course you needed the 150ml, in fact you would BU not to get it! Perfume Weekend sounds amazing - imagine how good we would all smell together Grin Yes to cheese and deserts and cake! And how many scrabble points in "pink mingers" Wink

Pineapple very jealous that you also have a good TK Maxx and Acqua Di Parma too Envy

On that note, I am attempting to convince DH after his Neroli P success that he needs to start wearing lovely fragrance but the only item I have been able to tempt him with is Colonia. Any recommendations for anything with a suitable vibe, you lot are better than Fragrantica or BaseNotes Vintage/Retro/classic style - preferably "clean" and yummy? He is definitely an Old Spice rather than Tom Ford type Grin

BlueKittens · 17/06/2018 11:50

SOTD 4160 What I did on my holidays- giving it an outing for a sunny Father’s Day

mrsreynolds · 17/06/2018 11:57

Floofy

You can't beat obsession for men

PlausibleSuit · 17/06/2018 12:49

Hi Floofy

YY to Obsession for Men

Or maybe Chanel Egoiste?
(Not Egoiste Platinum, that's a different beast entirely)

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 17/06/2018 16:02

Happy Sunday!! An excellent Perfumista day here - an unexpected ten minutes in Selfridges Grin Headed for Chanel and Les Exclusifs and gave Bois Des Iles a try - ooh, it is good isn't it? I see the guerlain-like reviews... It's possibly knocking Coromandel off the FB wishlist perch- I certainly prefer the opening... But then when Coromandel loses that earthy opening it really is something else. If only they'd do travel sizes... And, I have to remark in the lovely tester cards with the scent names already printed on. Little things...

Before that SotD was Mitsouko, and - out of nowhere - DS1 asked for a spray of "that custard one" so both DSs have been in CVC all day!

mrsreynolds · 17/06/2018 16:32

I'm now in 4160 mrsgloss indoors.

I do love this one.

Thinking of and missing my lovely dad today...I might go and have a sniff of old spice later 😁

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 17/06/2018 16:48

Hello Perfumistas,

Looking for a new scent here. I was on the thread about the stinky perfume on public transport and a lot of people said they didn't like Alien, which is what I wear ShockBlush

I was looking for something new anyway so can you tell me what I'd like if I've previously worn

Red Jeans by Versace
Elle by Armani
Truth by Calvin Klein
Issey Miyake
Yvresse/Champagne by YSL
Paris by YSL
Paul Smith Woman
Pink by Lacoste
Elie Saab
Coco Mademoiselle
JPG Woman
Womanity
Ralph Lauren Romance

Hate hate HATE Sunflowers, Daisy, anything that smells of grass

Any kind of old fashioned Yardley Lavender type stuff

I need to know what ones to test as they all blend in if you try too many

No Sleb ones

Thanks

Feel free to slate anything I've likedand tell me why I won't get miffed!

mrsreynolds · 17/06/2018 16:53

Hello mrstark (LOVE the nn!)
What's your budget?
I really rate the next perfumes...I think you would like eau nude and sparkle.
You could get a selection from somewhere like 4160 Tuesdays - they are a niche house that gets a LOT of love on here)

MrsLucas · 17/06/2018 16:55

Welcome MrStark. Take no notice - most of our favourites appeared too Grin.

I'm not going to be much help to you as I'm quite partial to both lavender and grass but I'm sure someone will be a long in a minute who can help. Smile

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 17/06/2018 16:58

I think between £50-80 I do want a naice one. I want to treat myself.

mrsreynolds · 17/06/2018 16:59

Yes a lot of my faves were slated too 😁
Must admit I don't like any of your list but perfumery is a broad church (so to speak) so even if I dislike a scent I can appreciate it was/is ground breaking/well made/cleverly advertised
